The NHL is apparently taking cues from the dreadful start to the NFL playoffs. 2 sweeps, and one 5 game series so far? The first round of the NHL playoffs is always my favorite, since there are multiple games every night. There has been some drama, but the way Columbus, Chicago and Minnesota went out is just pathetic. Vegas lost a lot of money, since I know many people had Chicago winning it all, and MN advancing to round 2 or 3.

Happy for the Sens and McCarthur who wasn't supposed to suit up even until next season. Close series, physical, in the end OTT had more depth.

So the Caps finally eek by the pesky Leafs.

I can't decide if the Leafs are that good, or if the Caps still can't score in the playoffs and are doomed.

Caps - Penguins should be good.. heck, hockey is always good. :)

Blues get that other draft pick now I guess!

Tough loss tonight, and losing at home in game one is a terrible way to start, but I feel better about the Blues chances now than I did before the game started. My main worry was that the Blues wouldn't be able to score. Turns out, they equaled the Blackhawks tally in the first round in just their first game. :-)

I think the Blues can still win this series, but Friday night is going to be huge. Had they looked as anemic offensively as they did against Minnesota, I'd be more worried. I won't be surprised if this goes 7. Both teams are tough as f***.

Good start for the Oils. Tight checking game for the first 40 minutes, until the third period when it broke open. Both teams will need to cut down on their penalties and McDavid will have to worry more about his teammates rather than R. Kesler.

Draisatl had a great game, ditto for Larsson. Leon seems to shine when he plays against the Ducks. EDM is finding out how good Larsson can be, after the trade with the Devils.

This is going to be a long series folks.

I hope Fiala is ok after crashing hard into the boards. Blues gave PK Subban all day long to crank that one timer, they need to tighten things up.

Three down, one to go!

But you're right, James: No way this series doesn't go six or seven. And the winner will be compromised if this series styas this physical, which it almost certainly will.

Could have called that one--take stupid penalties against a team with a great power play, and you're going to have a problem.

It got to be so late, so I was a little foggy and didn't look it up this morning--but were all 4 of the Oilers' goals on the PP (other than the Empty Netter, of course)? Sure as Hell felt like it.

At least the Raiders and Ducks have something in common--they'll always take penalties at times that make me want to scream, and I can't even scream at the refs. They're obvious, idiotic penalties. Most of the time they can get away with it, but against a team like the Oilers who were so patient on the PP...some of those feints and fakes were awesome...you're just killing yourself.

Preds scored twice on the PP, I feel better as well, although I would have liked a comeback win last night. I could see this series going 7 as well but we need a win tomorrow.

About time the Oil's power play clicked. It was sh*t in the first round.

I also worry about the Ducks' dominance in the faceoff circle. Expected, as the Ducks were No. 1 in the NHL in faceoff percentage and the Oil last during the regular season. But that will bite the Oil in the ass if they can't close the gap.

Good games last night, think the Preds learned they can't sit on a lead like they did with the Hawks. They won't make that mistake again and hopefully head home up 2-0.

If EDM can stay off the box, I really think they could steal another game out of ANA. Ducks are such a good faceoff team, you don't want to let them hold possession of the puck. They are going to score with the man advantage eventually, shots are doubled for the Ducks so far, it's going to be an exciting third.
