Mass Effect Andromeda

Post by Diablo25 »

This one is looking pretty damn good. I mentioned it in another thread that I've never played a ME game but this one could change that.

Need some help, fellas: I've never played a Mass Effect game despite the consensus praise for the series, and all three are available on EA Access. I'm interested.

What popular franchise does ME most resemble? Halo? Gears of War? I want to get a sense of the genre or game type of this series.

Thanks!

Nothing else is like it imo. I've only played ME2 and it really is crazy original. Think something like Skyrim crossed w some No Mans Sky crossed w Halo shooting elements.

BioWare Game. KoTOR. Dragons Age.

RPG with action elements though Im understanding the action will be more stepped up this game. You will still probably be doing alot of Dialogue.

They are amazing craftsman at Bioware.

You do work towards a f*** buddy or romance in previous Mass effect games. So the dialogue is useful. :P

Do you recommend starting with the first game or can I jump in with ME 3? Is the story that vital? Remember, I'm far from an RPG guy.

Thanks.

Start with ME2. It's far more accessible as a game than the original ME. ME is a heavier RPG style, and the combatcanbe very frustrating for a while, especially the shooting (VERY frustrating) until you level up and start to get the hang of it. ME2 has a much more fluid, action feel to the combat.

Story wise, I'd say it's worth the $5 to do the comic-book style background story that's available as DLC. It will give you the major story highlights of ME1 and let you make some crucial decisions along the way that play out throughout the series.

But it is very much Sci-fi - probobly not entirely your cup of tea, PK. But hey, give it a shot. There's no better interactive story telling than the stuff the bioware folks do, and while it's not perfect, the ME series is by far my favorite of their games.

About 10 months ago, I was invited by EA studios in Vancouver to give an early impression of what it was then a very early alpha version of the game. I am not an RPG guy either but the massive open world and special gadgetry of weapons had me intrigued enough to say I may try this Andromeda title. In addition to some Halo-esque schemes, I would say also that the trial that I played reminded me a lot of some things from 'Dead Space' as well.

I was there for just two hours but the story was quite engaging typical of any Bioware title.

This might help with a few things PK. I've never played any of the ME games either so this video helped a little. I am guessing there are some slight spoilers of the original games in this trailer so you might not want to watch if you plan on playing the originals first.

I played 2 and 3, but I'm just not excited about this one. It's not the changes, or anything to do with the game itself. In fact, I know next to nothing about it, other than what I've seen on here. But unlike RDR2's announcement, which made me do proverbial cartwheels in my living room, this one just isn't grabbing me any more. I might play it at some point, as a redbox rental or something, but I've got too much to play already, and GR looming on the horizon... :D

ME2 is one of the best games of the previous generation. An amazing blend of story, characters, exploration, and combat. The first game is good but it gets very repetitious. The second one was just about flawless. The only downside of these games is there is a fair amount of backtracking, but the world is so good I don't mind it usually.

I am mad at myself for never finishing ME3. Got about halfway through and just didn't have the time to finish, then got rid of my 360 before I could go back to it.

The entire series is backward compatible and free if you have EA Access. Could always go back and do it in the next month preparing for ME:A.

One of the biggest series for me that I always nerdgasm over, for sure.

Yeah. I replayed ME1 before ME2 and ME2 before ME3.

Wont do it this time due to time constraints but this series is worth all the love it gets.

I can say that Mass Effect has been my favorite franchise over the past couple of gens. However, I have been a bit worried about Andromeda - not sure they haven really marketed it that well. That, combined with a different character look, just made it seem a bit "off".

But really encouraged today by a new developer video about exploration (which is why I love the game in the end).
