Steep
Looked for a thread on this one, but could only find some blurbs about it in the Infinite Air thread. Bought this one today on Xbox for 39.00. Been eyeing it for some time, and I'm really glad I picked it up. Always been a sucker for snowboarding games, especially the awesome SSX 3 on the original Xbox-one mountain, endless possibilities. Steep is that, wrapped in a more realistic package, with gorgeous graphics. Do what you want, how you want, pretty much wherever you want. And I love that you can board, ski, glide, or even paraglide anytime you're in an appropriate place. The exploration aspect is awesome, finding back country slopes, lines, and challenges. It doesn't have the insane trick style of SSX, but it's not as grounded in reality as Infinite Air, based on what I've read of that one. Just a cathartic joy to play.

Re: Steep
I found Steep pretty boring after a while for some reason. I also bought it for my bro for Christmas and he says it's the greatest gift he's ever received and he thinks it's the greatest game he's ever played. So to each his own I guess. It's definitely a quality game...just have had too many games to play this winter.
Re: Steep
I understand that. The lack of a linear anything could get boring to some, and the glut of games certainly makes it difficult to focus on any one game for long. But I got this one just to have a good, solid, and like I said before, cathartic experience that won't get "finished", just played here and there and enjoyed.

Re: Steep
I picked up Steep when it was on sale over the Christmas holiday. I am enjoying it too. It's a great pick up and play game and more fun than I expected it to be. Probably because I don't play it more than an hour at a time, I find it alot of fun and refreshing when I want to relax.

Re: Steep
I've had my eyes on Steep for a while. But I'm waiting for it to reach $20, which should happen soon. I also didn't like the demo, which gives me pause.
But like Teal, I loved SSX, SSX 3 and Amped. Still think Amped and Amped 2 for the original Xbox are the greatest snowboarding games ever.

Re: Steep
Amped was a perfect "simcade" snowboarding game. Steep is definitely worth $20. I didn't play the demo, but I know the controls have been tweaked for the better in the latest update. When the game first came out, the controls were frustrating. But now it is much more enjoyable to play.

I right with you PK. $20 is my miagic price point for it.pk500 wrote:I've had my eyes on Steep for a while. But I'm waiting for it to reach $20, which should happen soon. I also didn't like the demo, which gives me pause.

I got Steep last night for the magic price of free. Traded in four games at Best Buy, which is offering 50 percent trade-in bonus this week. Got $88 of credit burning a hole in my pocket, so I got Steep on a $30 price match with Amazon and Sniper Elite 4 for $48 with my Gamers Club Unlocked membership.
Yahtzee!
Congrats on pursuing your masters. Kick ass!

Re: Steep
Hey PK - long time! How you liking Steep? I'm an avid skier who rarely gets to ski on real mountains (here in Ontario there's a place called Mount St.Louis that I believe was man made on top of dump heap), I really needed to virtually explore some great terrain.pk500 wrote:Piggy:pigpen81 wrote:I right with you PK. $20 is my miagic price point for it.pk500 wrote:I've had my eyes on Steep for a while. At first, I wasn't sure about the controls, but now things seem to be working out. It's a game that is certainly growing on me.

Re: Steep
Good to hear from you, man! Haven't played Steep that much -- too many games, too little time. But I have enjoyed what I have played. A great chill game to kick back with and explore.

Re: Steep
I play Steep in fits and starts, and I really enjoy it. If I feel like simply chilling out, I just pick a mountaintop, point the blades downward, and go. Or strap into the squirrel suit and fly. If I'm feeling like challenging myself, I do the plentiful challenges, races, freestyles, and even crash test dummy events. Last night, for instance, I did a Red Bull challenge in the squirrel suit that I had to redo a dozen times to finish, but man alive, the video at the end was so worth it! Pucker inducing coolness. I love how, the closer you are to danger, the more the heartbeat and breathing pick up. Really gives it that adrenaline feeling.

Re: Steep
Great description, Teal.
Steep as a game is like swimming in the summer to me. Sometimes I just want to go into my pool only up to my waist. Sometimes I just want to jump in after a long ride to cool off (and give a cheap, quick wash to my cycling shorts and jersey
). Other times, I end up in the pool for an hour. All are fun.
Steep is no different. You can have fun with it whether it's for 10 minutes or two hours. Total chill.

Re: Steep
Agreed Teal/PK:
I'm also using it to acclimatize my two young girls to skiing on big mountains! It's one of the few games we can play together, since all they have to do is steer.
Those replays are indeed excellent - especially the movie like angles.
I find myself really liking the skiing the best. At first the snowboarding felt most natural, but I can't undo all of my skiing instincts, so have shifted over.

Same. I've been a skier since I was 10, so I gravitate toward that.fanatic wrote:I find myself really liking the skiing the best. At first the snowboarding felt most natural, but I can't undo all of my skiing instincts, so have shifted over.

Steep is $29.99 this week at Best Buy ($23.99 GCU). Great price for a fine game.

It will be a great game to take on the go on the Switch.Aristo wrote:Steep is getting a free play this weekend on XB1, PS4 and PC.
And I'm going out of town. Dammit. With it was on the Switch...
Re: Steep
The open beta for the Winter Olympics in Steep is currently available until December 4th. I believe December 12 is when the expansion releases. You are able to run a 3 different events. First time I fired this up being Xbox One Enhanced and it looks great! Same good Steep gameplay, the beta doesn't have any of the Olympic stuff turned on.
