Amazon Prime 5% back credit card

There's a new credit card for Amazon Prime members. I just signed up for it. It took 2 minutes, and I was given a free $70 Amazon gift card.
5% off on all Amazon purchases is the #1 draw, but they also give you some cash back on other purchases. If you're on the fence about Prime, sign up for the card for free. I assume everyone gets the same $70 gift card for signing up.

= $29 out of pocket for Prime for those who don't currently have it

Seems weird that they won't reward long term customers like you. I only had 1 credit card, so now I plan to use this for everything. The free $70 was kind of cool. It seems weird how fast it approved me. I entered my social security number, but I wonder how good their credit check is. My credit score is really good, but if my MIL with 480 credit score applied, I wonder if it would really deny her.

They do. I got this email earlier that said the same stuff. 3% other places, 2% at restaurants, 5% on Amazon.com, etc.

I never really use mine, so it's got almost no balance on it, but I did see that email and thought nothing of it until I saw this thread. Had to retrieve it out of the email trash can to read what it said.

I got this card a few months back. I just checked and I am now getting the 5% back from Amazon, 2% back at restaurants/drugstores/gas stations, 1% back elsewhere. I want that $70 gift card though . Thanks for the heads up Fletch.
