Rise of the Tomb Raider in 4K is absolutely breathtaking. I never played it when it first came out so figured now was the time to buy. It's spectacular looking. This is what they call a system seller when you see it running. Goodness.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
You don't have to but just know it's changing a lot. I wouldn't spend over say $2500 now. If you can find a 55 inch with HDR for under $1000 it might hold you for 3-4 years and by then, you should get a pretty good upgrade.10spro wrote:Great. Now I have to wait another year for my 4K TV Wco, after pretty much holding as much as I could for my plunge next month?
By then we may have 4K broadcasts. Direct Tv has been showing some golf and baseball games in 4K.
Maybe in 3-4 years they'll be broadcasting NFL and NBA games in 4K HDR. ATSC 3.0 is being developed and may be finalized.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Thanks for the info! I think I'll wait a bit unless a can't miss deal miss shows up. Even without HDR, the visual enhancements is nothing short of spectacular. Very impressed.wco81 wrote:If you can get a great deal this holiday season or around Super Bowl when there's a tv sales push, it would be worth it.sportdan30 wrote:Wow...NBA 2K17 looks beautiful on my Vizio 4K tv. Absolute no jaggies, shimmer, etc. The skin tones are so life like. Very impressed.
I just discovered I don't have a tv with HDR, so I might be investing in one of those soon.
Otherwise, display tech, especially with HDR, better color gamut and greater brightness output is changing fairly rapidly so you may want to wait about a year.
There is an industry standard, HDR10, which is common in most HDR TVs now. But there is an alternative, Dolby Vision, which AVS guys who've seen both say is better. But only a few expensive models have it now. By a year from now, it should be on more sets.
Also a new HDMI revision should be due.
Future Scorpio owners will be in for a treat if the Pro is any indication of what what some native 4K games can do.
Bring on The Show!

FWIW my opinion If you're not a Sony die hard I would do some serious checking on the Pro and get some unbiased feedback.

In my 20 or so minutes @ 60fps, I found that it rarely dropped and when it did, it didn't look nearly as choppy as 4k mode. I don't know why anyone would play Last of Us on 4K mode with the 30fps limit...it's so annoying. The higher frame rates made up for the slight degradation in graphics.Danimal wrote:http://www.polygon.com/2016/11/11/13597 ... s4-pro-fps

Only if you still have the system and it's on the same network (wired or wireless). I agree and let me re-phrase my last post so it's not so d*****. I'll be interested to see how many games must be run at lower frame rates to support the full blown 4K patches. I take it NBA doesn't have this issue from your posts.dbdynsty25 wrote:In my 20 or so minutes @ 60fps, I found that it rarely dropped and when it did, it didn't look nearly as choppy as 4k mode. Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Oh there's no doubt that MOST games will NOT be running in 4K natively @60fps. I think there are only 2-3 that are doing that. NBA 2k17 is one of them, which was the main reason I got the Pro. I expect MLB to do the same next year since its a first party title on the system. Even the most powerful single PC video cards have trouble at 4K w/ all of the graphics turned up, so this isn't exactly a revelation...but improve some textures, increase the framerate and resolution a bit over the stock PS4 and I'm happy w/ that.Danimal wrote:I agree and let me re-phrase my last post so it's not so d*****. I'm not sure what resolution they went to but damn if Ratchet and Clank doesn't look like it's running native 4K too. It's stunning to look at and play.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Ratchet and Clank looks like a Pixar film, or extremely close.
I am very happy with Uncharted 4, even though it's only running at 1440p. It looks beautiful. I'll be more than content if the majority of games run at this resolution as long as the frame rate is smooth.
I'll be very surprised if the Scorpio is able to run all games consistently at 4K and 60fps. Either way, the games are going to look great.
I do think that perhaps Sony shouldn't have touted 4K as the barometer for this console. The specs of the system clearly showed it could not support it with all their games. However, the tricks with the checkerboarding, while a bit softer than 4K, come very close to resembling 4K.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
MS is touting Scorpio specs that are more than double PS4 Pro, especially in graphics throughput. Should be interesting to see how it evolves as PC hardware and GPU hardware is evolving rapidly.....pretty sure MS is not getting beat this time on hardware, but they will be a year later so it better be worth it....sportdan30 wrote:Ratchet and Clank looks like a Pixar film, or extremely close.

I'm sure Scorpio is going to be a beast. They have time to correct the problems the Pro encounters over the next several months.DivotMaker wrote:MS is touting Scorpio specs that are more than double PS4 Pro, especially in graphics throughput. When you read about high end PCs needing big time graphic and cpu power in order to sufficiently run 4K games, you have to wonder how exactly will Scorpio accomplish that while trying to keep the price of the console competitive? Time will tell.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I really don't think that will be an issue. When you consider people are paying $400 for a machine whose only real feature is a graphical upgrade.sportdan30 wrote: When you read about high end PCs needing big time graphic and cpu power in order to sufficiently run 4K games, you have to wonder how exactly will Scorpio accomplish that while trying to keep the price of the console competitive? You still can't even hook up an external hard drive on the Pro. True 4K games, not patches are going to eat up HD size and the Pro's 1 TB drive won't cut it. Can't explain what Sony was thinking there.
I think MS has more in store with Scorpio than a machine with more power but as you say time will tell. IMO MS is trying to cross over the PC gaming market which is on a steady incline. They have tried this before and failed but Windows 10 started the transition, play anywhere is adding on to it.
Regardless I'm not looking forward to the endless comparison videos like we had at launch but I know they are inevitable because Sony fans ran with that s*** for months so now the tables will be turned.

Been playing a bit tonight to check it out and it's still meh. Quite a bit of frame rate stutters and misses. I certainly wouldn't say it's appreciably better so don't make any decisions on TGC certainly.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
After a few more holes it really seems like the only issue w the frame rate is in the backswing of the woods and long irons. The rest seems to be pretty good. Admittedly it's been a while since I've played but I know it looks better than the xb1 version but that's always been the case w the PS4.
So I can't say that it hasn't improved. Lol. Again the only frame rate stuff I notice is in the backswing. Which is a really crappy place to have it happen really.

Just bumping this...anyone have an idea? I guess what Im asking is there something I could plug both the PS4 HDMI cord and XB1S HDMI cord into...and then plug that into my one HDMI 4K 60hz input on the TV??? Sorry for the noobie descriptionDiablo25 wrote:Got my Pro and hooked it up. Its a beast. All my games are digital so I have to DL them all. Uncharted looks great.
One issue I do have is I only have one 4K @60hz HDMI input on my Vizio 4KTV. The other 4 inputs are 4K @30hz which will only output in 1080p. My problem is I now have 2 consoles that can output in 4K (XB1S & PS4 Pro). Dumb question probably but is there a way I could share that 4K @60hz input? If not I have to unplug one and plug in the other to get the full experience.
