I was going to wait on this, but GameStop gave me $20 off Titanfall 2 for buying BF1 and another $20 coupon for buying Gears of War 4. I think they are trying to compete with the Bestbuy and Amazon discounts.

Re: Titanfall 2
So what do cats who own TF2 think about it after a weekend of play? I know the single player is improved, but what about multiplayer? Dig it?
I'm just about to pull the trigger on this game. Loved the first one, loved the TF2 demo. Seems like a can't miss for me.

Re: Titanfall 2
I didn't play it a ton but the dozen MP games I did play, it brought back the great memories of Titanfall. I'm still learning the changes between the games, but the movements and gunplay is just as fun as the original. Haven't run into any problems with the servers nor finding any games. You shouldn't hesitate pulling the trigger on this game. The only problem I have with Titanfall 2 right now is that when I play it, I can't be playing Battlefield 1.
Re: Titanfall 2
I haven't touched campaign yet, while it's a welcomed addition, I am hearing that it's a rather short story. Played several rounds of Bounty Hunt (my favorite mode so far) and what can I say. The fast and furious action is what makes this title shine, maps are pretty balanced, Titans no longer regenerate health, so they are much more fragile. The adrenaline of rodeo-ing a Titan is always both, such a rush and satisfying experience. Ditto when trying to escape from sure death as you eject high and well above the skies from danger, while putting a bullet on the perpetrator.pk500 wrote:So what do cats who own TF2 think about it after a weekend of play? It's still fun, but there's a problem called BF1 which overshadows TF2, the CoD crowd this week... Personally, I prefer the ultra realistic gameplay of Battlefield, but I know Black Friday is coming up and if you can find it for cheap, it's mindless fun for sure.
Re: Titanfall 2
Love it! Love the grappling hook. Doesn't take too long to level up. Last night I made it to level 10 and I really entered "the zone"...at least for my 40-something year old asspk500 wrote:So what do cats who own TF2 think about it after a weekend of play? Thanks, boys. I have about $45 in BB credit, so TF 2 will cost me about $5 with GCU.
Loved the first game. Loved the beta for TF 2. The reviews are glowing.

TF2 will be my run-and-gun shooter; BF1 will be my slower-paced shooter. Perfect mix.

I'm enjoying the campaign. Multiplayer not so much this time. It feels more polished and refined, but not as good as Titanfall 1. Maybe I just need more time with it, but Im having more fun playing BF1 online. And this weekend I'm looking forward to COD4.

Bought TF2 today for a whopping $3.50 at BB after GCU discount, gift card from trades and a $5 coupon. Can't wait to play this f*cker, as I loved the first game and the TF 2 beta.

Re: Titanfall 2
I’ve just finished my sixth cup of coffee today, blissfully drowsy. I popped Titanfall 2 into my Xbox One at about 11 p.m. last night, and the next thing I knew, it was 2:20 a.m.
Titanfall 2 is that good. It makes you forget about normal conventions such as time.
I was a late convert to Titanfall, only getting into it when it became available on EA Access. I thought I didn’t want a mech game. Didn’t want to subject my age 50+ reflexes to a fast-paced shooter. Already had enough shooters.
I was wrong. Titanfall is a great game, one of the true sleeper hits for me on the Xbox One.
Titanfall 2 is a different game than Titanfall. It’s not just the first game, reheated in the microwave with a few new graphical and gameplay elements.
The first Titanfall was a mech game with shooting. Titanfall 2 is a shooter with mechs.
There’s much more emphasis on ground combat in Titanfall 2 multiplayer, as the importance of soldiers is greater than in the first game. But the mechs are still there in their glory. But they’re tougher to get.
Titanfall respawned titans on a timer, regardless of your performance. Titanfall 2 instead respawns titans based on a system in which you’re rewarded with respawn points based on your performance. Bottom line: Kill more enemies and achieve more objectives, and you’ll get your titan faster.
Many people are bitching about this. I think it’s brilliant. Reward-based performance always is preferred to enabling. This new system makes me want to be a better player all the time.
Another complaint is that the new maps are less open and more “path” oriented. That’s tough for titans. True. But I still think there’s plenty of room for titans to maneuver, especially as they feel faster and more nimble than in the first game.
The graphics also don’t measure up to Battlefield 1, which is stunning. Titanfall 2 is no dog to look at, but its palate and detail aren’t as vivid as Battlefield 1.
But good Lord, this game does nearly everything else right.
“Feel” is such an abstract, bullsh*t term. But it really applies to first-person shooters. The greatest modes, maps and graphics can be neutered by a sense of detachment from surroundings, weapons and characters.
Titanfall 2 bridges the gap between my control pad and my weapon as well as any shooter I’ve played since the original Halo. I used to think Bungie was the master of gun play with the Halo franchise and Destiny.
Move over, Bungie: There’s a new sheriff in town – Respawn.
The gun mechanics are FLAWLESS in this game. We’re talking Hannah Davis-in-a-bikini bronzed skin here.
Aiming while on the move – a must in Titanfall – works great. Headshots take people out. Body shots take more time, but I never felt like a foe survived my attacks despite being a bullet sponge.
Movement is a joy. So responsive, whether it’s running, jumping, parkour or using the FANTASTIC grappling hook.
Respawn also paid attention to the little things. My controller gently vibrates in unison with rounds being emptied from my clip. My controller rumbles more when I’m running as a titan than when running as a soldier.
I detected so many influences in this sequel. The original Titanfall, of course. But since Respawn developed some of the greatest Call of Duty games, I also felt the lineage of vintage, tight COD controls and combat. I also felt some of the pure, unfiltered manic FPS joy of Quake or Unreal Tournament from the 90s. Big grins abounded last night. I also felt a bit of Halo, too.
There is SUCH a good balance between mech and soldiers in multiplayer. In Titanfall, I couldn’t wait for my titan to revive so I could climb in. Last night there were a handful of times where my titan was available yet I kept fighting on foot.
Now for the inevitable comparison to Battlefield 1, another EA blockbuster shooter. There really is no comparison other than both are first-person shooters.
BF1 is a more tactical, slower game based on history. Titanfall 2 is a fact-paced, yet controlled and smooth game based on mech fantasy. They’re both great. Both should be in your library if you have any interest in first-person shooters. It’s stupid to choose between both if you can find the scratch to buy both.
BF1 looks prettier. But TF2 is much smoother. There’s not a whisper of lag anywhere in the game, gameplay or menus.
I can’t comment on single-player campaign, as I haven’t started that in either game. But reviews and gamer feedback indicate the campaign is superb in both games.
My biggest criticism surrounding Titanfall 2 is reserved for Electronic Arts. What the f*ck was EA thinking by release Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 – its biggest shooter franchises – within two weeks of each other? EA sent Titanfall 2 to die in the marketplace due to intrasquad competition from BF1 and outside competition from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and other AAA titles such as the remastered Skyrim.
That’s a shame, as Titanfall 2 would have received the respect and attention it deserves if it was released in the spring, away from holiday blockbuster season.
Don’t be scared by claims the multiplayer base already is drying up. Even if the numbers can’t compare to BF1, you only need 10 people to have a GREAT match.
Plus Respawn already has said all DLC will be FREE, avoiding the fragmentation of the userbase by paid DLC with the original Titanfall. So this game will have legs and be the gift that keeps giving.
Titanfall 2 is a singular FPS experience. There’s nothing on the market like it. If you’re even thinking of buying it, DO IT NOW.

I hope you dig it. I DIG it, and I'm 51 years old with the reflexes of a dude 20 years older. Normally I avoid run-and-gun like genital warts, but the entire package of this game just works for me and provides such a well-made alternative to more cerebral shooters.TCrouch wrote:You bastard--I had decided to pass on it. Plus there still are many strategic options within each match. An ideal blend of frantic action and thought.

Paul is spot on with his impressions. Titanfall 2 is so much gun to play, the balance is just perfect. I always feel competitive in this game. The movements of the pilot and titan are fluid and very intuitive. I love the gunplay as well. The leveling up system is different but it seems to work so far. I've also started into the campaign and what I've played of it so far, I really like! Hopefully make some big progress on that this weekend.
Re: Titanfall 2
Hmm. I felt pretty good about skipping this one, but reconsidering. I'm just burned out on shooters--buy them then barely play them. Maybe getting too old for the twitchers. Also, Titanfall 1 was neat but rarely gave me "one more game" feel. Hmmm.
The best theory I've heard is this is EA trying to finish off COD once and for all. COD interest is dying (deservedly so), and if they can completely bury it this year, it opens up the shooter market moving forward (Battlefront 2 next fall).pk500 wrote:My biggest criticism surrounding Titanfall 2 is reserved for Electronic Arts. COD won't die but I know people are not happy at all with how Infinite Warfare plays. People want a boots on the ground COD shooter again. We'll see if Activision delivers, but it may be a little late as EA has both markets cornered with an excellent Battlefield 1 and a fun and futuristic and balanced game in Titanfall2 (mechs included)Naples39 wrote: The best theory I've heard is this is EA trying to finish off COD once and for all. Re: Titanfall 2
That stupid strategy is backfiring. EA vastly overestimated Titanfall's franchise value. This is just the second game of a series for which the first game bordered on a cult classic because the userbase dropped so quickly.Naples39 wrote:The best theory I've heard is this is EA trying to finish off COD once and for all. So it was nuts for EA to think that Titanfall was enough of a heavyweight to tag-team with BF 1 to knock out the monster franchise known as COD.
This is a classic case of hubris-driven fratricide by EA.
Oh, well. TF 2 is a GREAT game, and I'll be happy as long as I can find nine other people in the world to play online. That's a pretty safe bet for a game of this exquisite quality.

Re: Titanfall 2
A sure sign that Titanfall 2 is a great shooter: I yell "F*CK YOU!" at the screen every time I kill a human or CPU-controlled player in multiplayer.
This game evokes emotion, which is fantastic. I'm fully invested when playing.
No other shooter is creating this feeling for me now, even the fantastic BF 1.
I listened to Bill play it Tuesday night while chatting in a party, and I heard him say, "F*ck you, b*tch," about five times in five minutes. Another good sign!

Count on it. TF 2 isn't good; it's great.Danimal wrote:Amazon has it for $35 today, with free 1 day Prime shipping. Slapped $10 of rewards point on there and will have it tomorrow.

Re: Titanfall 2
For that price, I would definitely take the plunge and try the campaign mode which they added this year although I haven't personally touched it yet. Strictly online plays so far for me, modes like Bounty, Amped, Attrition are very fun. When you look at the longevity of the game for this shooter at full price, I would have told you to wait for BF deal which it seems, has arrived.
