Dope phone...absolutely hate the edge screens tho. The color distortion and glare on the edges annoys the hell out of me so I can't do it. GS7 Unlocked UK version for life! At least until the new Nexus phones drop.Spooky wrote:Galaxy Note 7 has me tempted to go back to the dark side.

Db, when my op3 arrives, will my t-mobile Sim from my galaxy plug and play, or will I need a new sim? I read it has a dual sim tray. Why dual, and are they the same size as my current sim? Thanks, sorry for the noob questions

Re: OT:Smart Phones
I don't know what size sim you are using. It uses Nano Sim, so you may need a new card if your phone is older than a year or two. T-Mobile will give you one if you just walk in the store.fletcher21 wrote:Db, when my op3 arrives, will my t-mobile Sim from my galaxy plug and play, or will I need a new sim? Dual sim is so you can have multiple phone numbers coming to a phone.

I'll quote myself and Spooky on this one, just because it's funny that this article just came out today, after I bitched about the curves. I still don't like them as they have it on display at BB, but it's still a good phone.dbdynsty25 wrote:Dope phone...absolutely hate the edge screens tho. Received my OnePlus 3 today. Pretty solid phone, especially for the price of $399. It's no galaxy killer, but im more than satisfied. big thanks to db for the recommendation. I like this phone way more than the g5, which several co workers have. I've never cracked a phone, but im a little concerned with this one. It's way bigger than I'm used to. Texting is slower for me so far, too. All in all, I'm very impressed!

I have had a good amount of time with my oneplus3, and I really am having a hard time finding many flaws with it for my usage style. $399 is robbery for a phone this slick. Huge thanks to the resident technology guru db! Anyone looking for a phone could do a lot worse than an op3. Time will tell how well it holds up, but I'd give it a solid 9/10 so far. It's a bit large, and I don't love the speaker. Other than that, it's definitely making my galaxy s7 urges nearly non existent. Free shipping and no tax, plus the fastest charging phone on the market? Awesome.
Re: OT:Smart Phones
Glad you got the smart phone you wanted. For that price also I heard great things about the Huawei P9, a Chinese manufacturer with good potentials.

Loving my new Galaxy Note 7. One of, if not the most, beautiful pieces of hardware I have ever held.
Is it worth the premium price? Maybe not - but it's not much different than the cost of a new iPhone using my AT&T Next plan. But boy oh boy does it feel like a luxurious gadget.

Same here. I've been waiting to withhold comment until I'd lived with it for a bit, but it's a nearly flawless phone.Spooky wrote:Loving my new Galaxy Note 7. One of, if not the most, beautiful pieces of hardware I have ever held.

Oh and I bought a 60" and a 55" 4K TV from them and their 3.1 sound bar...I guess I'm now a fanboy.

I am going to order a Gear S3 now - even though I would slightly rather have Android Wear over Tizen. I have an LG Watch Urbane. Hate the name, love the watch. The S3 is obviously a generation newer and improved, but I really couldn't ask for much more from this watch. It looks fantastic and is a really terrific device. Worth taking a look at if anyone else is in the market.

So I bought the S7 Edge, first phone I have ever bought instead of getting a direct upgrade, to replace my S5. Take it home, start charging it, and while I'm checking it out, black screen of death. Try all the reboot suggestions online and nothing works. On top of that, my cell service was already switched from my old phone, so I can't use my still functional S5. Will have to trudge back to the store to exchange it. I'm sure the next one will be fine, but not the first impression I was hoping for.

Ha, I know, right? But the second one was fine, and I have to say the service I got from the Best Buy salesperson was very good (had the same guy when I brought the phone back).dbdynsty25 wrote:Soooo...I spoke too soon? I can see why some wouldn't like the edge display, but I really enjoy the extra functionality to start apps or tasks quickly, and the curve on videos doesn't bother me. The display is so nice, and it is such a fast and smooth phone -- night and day from the my S5 that I never really liked outside of the camera.
Re: OT:Smart Phones
I got a S7 Edge yesterday as a holdover until they figure out what's going on with the N7's. I have to say that it's kind of a kick in the balls. I expected a slight drop off from the Note, but not all that much. It's pretty significant, though.Brando70 wrote: I can see why some wouldn't like the edge display, but I really enjoy the extra functionality to start apps or tasks quickly, and the curve on videos doesn't bother me. The Note screen is so much better, particularly the way it handles the edges. I can't stand the way that text wraps around the edges when you're reading something in the browser.
The S7 is noticeably sluggish in areas that the N7 was not, particularly in terms the speed at which it opens apps, the boot-up process and the security sign-ins. I'm inclined to say that it lacks processing horsepower, but it could be a software issue as well. The fingerprint scanner on the N7 was noticeably better, as are many elements of the TouchWiz overlay. Overall, it just lacks the fit and finish of the N7.
The S7 feels cheaper, the pressure sensitivity of the buttons, the finish of the phone...it's like a really nice Toyota to the N7's Mercedes.
Again, I've used Galaxies in the past, so I have no antipathy toward them, and I really expected only subtle differences. I'm not trying to harsh Brando's buzz (or anyone else's), just wanted to weigh in with some thoughts about what made that damn Note 7 so good. Almost worth the risk...

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Hmmm...used my buddies Note 7 and really didn't notice a difference between it and my S7 (regular, F edges)...speed, fit and finish...all seemed equal. This was the first year they didn't out-spec the smaller models w/ the Note. Cameras, processors, memory, all the same. Probably a slightly newer software build, but hell, I just got a new software update today on my unlocked version.RobVarak wrote:The S7 feels cheaper, the pressure sensitivity of the buttons, the finish of the phone...it's like a really nice Toyota to the N7's Mercedes.

Now, all that said, I use the Exynos version of the S7, since it's unlocked. Word on the street is the battery life is better than the Snapdragon versions, so maybe there's something to that, being that it's from Europe and not a US software/hardware build. Maybe the S7E you got is just what we get in the US. LOL.
Re: OT:Smart Phones
I am torn on exactly what to do about my Note 7. I still have mine and would rather not give it up until replacements are available for an exchange.
Maybe I am tempting fate but there is just no other phone I would want to use right now.
RobV - Did you get an S7 as a temp phone or did you just do an exchange for that one and then will exchange again when updated Note's are released?

It's really simple. Don't leave it unattended when charging. Solves all of the issues. I mean the thing charges in a half hour so just keep tabs on it. It'll be fine.Spooky wrote:I am torn on exactly what to do about my Note 7. I still have mine and would rather not give it up until replacements are available for an exchange.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Got the S7 Edge as a temp. Details here from my post on the Android Central forum, where people are having an insane number of different and varied experiences with Verizon:Spooky wrote: RobV - Did you get an S7 as a temp phone or did you just do an exchange for that one and then will exchange again when updated Note's are released?
Since I did this, Samsung has apparently told both AT&T and VZW to only use some s*** older model as a temp, but there are plenty of us who got all sorts of different units as temps. There are literally a dozen or so different variations on the way people are being told to handle it by Verizon. It's an epic shitstorm. So I exchanged DM's with the VZW twitter account this a.m. This is what I was told:
I want to ensure that you get all the information you need in returning your device. You are allowed to return your Note7 for another device without fees and then exchange it again for the revised Note7 when it's available, also with no fees
I went to my local store this afternoon. Initially, the manager disputed this was the policy, trying instead to get me to do a straight return. After I waived the message around and a brief phone call to a regional manager of some kind, he agreed that they were giving out temp replacements and would charge no fees for restocking either the N7 or the temp. I obtained an S7 Edge and will exchange that for a new N7 when replenished. The regional manager (or whatever his title) said that he expected to start seeing the new units sometime after 9/15.
Just thought I would share to clarify what is an unfortunately confusing situation with so much inconsistent information out there.
I was just watching it while it charged for the last week or so and it was no big deal. I would have just held out for a week and done a direct exchange, but I'm headed to Mexico next week and I didn't want to travel with a possibly combustible phone.
