Is the ICS Masterclass impossible to beat?

Post by skynate152 »

I am beside myself with rage  . I have completed all of the Masterclass tests with gold medals only to come to the virtually impossible "Indy Car Series" session.

The mission: Assume the role of Dan Weldon at Texas Motor Speedway in one of the last races of the seaseon. There are something like 15 or 20 laps to go and for a gold medal you must work your way through the field and fininsh first.

The Catch: You can not tune your car; you join the race at pace.

Every time I attempt this test, I can get all the way to 3rd because they start your car in a position that permits you to pass a large group of oppoments without losing the draft. But the number 1 and 2 drivers break off from the pack before you arrive and you are not able to pick up a tow. They simply dissappear as you fight off all of the pissed of drivers that you passed despite having a slower car.

I am convinced that the car provided for this test is not fast enough to catch the leaders. The Texas racing line is not difficult and I fear that the setup just isn't good enough.

The only prayer that I have is to allow a penske car to pass me and ride in his wake for ten laps until he finally catches the leaders. Then make a bold slingshot move on the last turn to snatch the victory. This is extremely difficult becuase if you get more than a few car-lengths behind the penske car just once, you are hosed.

Has anyone conqued this task? If I am missing an easy solution, please let me know.

Thanks,
Nate

BTW -- yes, i am running with full rich and full negative weight jacker.

I haven't tried this one yet myself but the few people that I know of that have managed to get the gold in exactly the way you describe.

I've beaten it, but only on Bronze. Did you say negative weight jacker? Are you getting a ton of understeer?????

The test that *I* can't beat is the damn yellow flag restart!

I read somewhere that you should immediately get to 4th place, not 3rd. Then, you and the guy in third place use the draft to catch up, slowly to the lead 2 cars. It will take a while, but if you do this you should catch up and then you can win at the end.

The understeer doesn't seem to be a big problem at Texas.

I am having a heckava time beating the 3rd one (maximizing performance). The closest I got to the bronze time is within 1 full second.
Anyone have any tips for that one.

BTW, are all the masterclasses at the Indy track?
