Pokemon Go...

Post by 10spro »

I knew I made a huge mistake two days ago downloading this stupid game for my young ones. Not only they've taken control of my phone, but by the time I get it back, there's no battery left whatsoever.

Then this happened today as they try to scoop up more characters.

'I swear to God'...

Darwinism Go

This app will be forgotten by Labor Day. See Candy Crush, Farmville and all the other "pet rock" fads of the Internet ...

I think Candy Crush still has a bajillion active users, fwiw.

I don't know why this game has got PK telling kids to get off his lawn. It's terrific fun. Better than the last decade's worth of Madden games, for example. :)

Uhuh...the kids did it.

My wife is all over it with our 4 year old...but it was her that started it. So yeah. I just try to mow down all of the idiots standing in the middle of the street trying to track down the next one. It's amusing at least.

Because it's pretty pathetic that people -- no fingers pointed at you, Rob; just people, in general -- are justifying further use of screens by their kids by saying Pokemon Go requires them to go outside and move. Put down the f*cking phone and screen for a few hours and go outside and play with your hands, bikes, sports equipment, dolls, imagination, etc.

I'd rather catch my kids masturbating than playing Pokemon Go. Seriously. At least that requires imagination.

GET OFF MY LAWN.

Those screens are getting used either way, so I get the justification that at least it incentivizes getting out and moving around. Just from the anecdotal evidence of my social media connections, I can't even count the number of parents who have been asked by their kids to take them for walks or bike rides to go hunting. One of my friends was even asked by his middle-schooler to start taking him on his runs, something he could never get the kid to do before.

It's also a great tonic for those who argue that kids don't do enough face-to-face, real life socializing, as this is getting a pretty unlikely array of kids to interact in a friendly, cooperative manner with people they would otherwise never have come into contact with. There were about 2 dozen kids outside our church last night from neighborhoods several miles away, chatting amiably about the game, sharing their rarest catches and exchanging tips about developing their monsters. It was cool.

There's definitely a pet rock sort of stupidity to the craze, but I think by and large it's a pretty great thing that Nintendo has done.

I'm sure Nintendo could give two tosses about the social aspect of Pokemon Go. It's far happier that its stock price has surged in the last two weeks.

Glad your kids are enjoying it. Seriously.

I'm very grateful my kids have no interest in it. The day I'm pleased my kids are meeting people and getting exercise through an iPhone game is the day you can run my private parts through a wood chipper, Fargo-style.

GET OFF MY LAWN. :)

Target audience is Millennials who basically don't do anything but sit behind a screen on social media all day anyway. This gets them outside where they can possibly be hit by cars, mugged or fall off cliffs. Thinning the heard is not a bad thing.

As the herd of horses ran away, we heard a colt among them neighing for its mother.

I never got into Pokémon or handheld games, but as a gamer I think its cool that this game has become so popular.
