This means zero this offseason. EVERY team has a ton of money to work with, except for teams like the Cavs. Seriously, I think like 90% of the league has over 25 mil to spend.
Plus the cap is skyrocketing with the new TV deal and CBA. Excess cap space means nothing this summer.

Even the Miami Heat have sh*t loads of cap space. Only 4 players are signed to a contract. All it takes is 1-2 high priced FA's to make that cap space go poof.

Phoenix made me go full wood this afternoon. Couldn't decide between Bender and Criss...okay, just make a trade and draft em both. I'm in 100%.

Probably Noah, which I expected would follow after the trade for Rose. ESPN reports that NY is Noah's first choice and he is meeting with Jackson tomorrow.

Another aging, injury-prone Bull. Yeah!

I would have rather kept Lopez.

The money is there because of the increased salary cap. Don't forget the increased floor, either. Teams MUST spend or get penalized.

These contracts are huge. But they're still not as nuts as baseball. The NBA is the second-most popular pro sports league in America behind the NFL, so pro hoop players should be making this kind of dough compared to baseball. Yes, I know baseball teams make huge money through local media deals and far more seat inventory. But the money those guys make is nuts proportional to its popularity.

I think everyone agrees NFL players are underpaid. Luck just became the highest-paid player ever at $22 million per year. The Lakers are going to pay Timofey Mozgov -- MOZGOV! -- $16 million per year. The disparity is even more silly when you consider so little of NFL money is guaranteed.

I don't think Whiteside is worth $98 over 4 years but hey, it ain't my money. Good luck to Riles and Arison getting KD, because it isn't going to happen. The biggest problem facing the Heat roster is paying an aging D-Wade $20+ million a year when he'll be turning 35 this season. At some point they need to cut ties and spend the money elsewhere.

Deng supposedly will be gone, there were rumors of trading Dragic for Boogie and taking over his salary but that's not going to happen now that Whiteside is signed. JJ is probably gone as well as he's not taking the league minimum.

Then there's Tyler Johnson another D-League prospect who's now expected to make $10 million a year if offers from other teams come in. The one thing going for the Heat is they have a good core (Whiteside, Winslow, Richardson and Johnson and possibly Briante Weber) of young players but they're in no way a match against Cleveland.

It's a travesty how underpaid NFL players are with the type of violent abuse they put on their bodies and like you mentioned, most of those contracts are not worth the paper they're written on since most of that money is never guaranteed.

Yeah, I am a Sixers fan and I am excited as hell to watch Simmons tomorrow night in the Sixers first summer league game. I'm also excited to watch Timothe Luwawu. Great pick at #24.

Things just got real

Super Teams, a trend started by the Miami Heat in 2010. So what will the expectations be for the Dubs this time around, 80 wins and a championship? So far the NBA has failed to keep the super teams from happening. It happened in Miami, then in Cleveland and now in Oakland and I guess you can add San Antonio to the list with Aldridge last year.

It's a perfect storm though.

Curry has a cheap contract, Klay and Green didn't max out and then you had free agents the team could renounce.

Of course a big jump in the cap and a top 5 player becoming an UFA at the same time.

OKC could have pressed the issue last year, get KD to commit long term or trade him if he didn't commit. Now there's talk that they will try to get a commitment from Westbrook or else trade him like they did Harden and Ibaka.

Not saying it won't happen again but the conditions were unique.

No doubt. Durant may have signed a one-year deal with OKC to get on Westbrook's contract cycle if he knew Russ was sticking around.

OKC should trade Westbrook at the deadline this season, getting maximum assets in return before he bolts for free. Otherwise the Thunder could be in the lottery after the 2017-18 season.

I'll take him in Phoenix. Got a bunch of young PGs on reasonable contracts and tons of picks coming up. Do it. Somehow I turned into a Westbrook fan during these playoffs...I can't help but root for a guy that plays every play like it's gonna be his last.

Certainly didn't expect Wade to blink first and bolt Miami. Wow.

Probably better for Miami this way so they can move on and rebuild. It's especially nice since they owe Phoenix two first rounders. :)

He's leaving for $7 million more from the Bulls, trading Miami weather for Chicago winters.

He's not leaving for money since there's no tax in Florida. That's moot. It's about respect. Or lack thereof.

My thoughts are it sucks seeing the end of an era but it was best for both sides in the end. D-Wade has been on the decline health wise for the past 5 years, with last year the exception. He made Miami a playoff team but lets be real, with their current lineup they'd have trouble beating Boston.

Hopefully Pat Riley can have a rethink about trading away so many draft picks and always thinking about the Now. We owe two 1st rd picks to Phoenix for the Dragic trade which will benefit the Suns because the Heat will not be in the playoffs the next two years unless Winslow discovers his shot and becomes the second coming of Leonard.

If Bosh doesn't return and retires they get his salary cap back in February so they'll be in the bank and will have the money to talk to Russ (a much younger version of D-Wade) to Miami and build a team around him.

They tried to trade McRoberts to free up cap space for resigning Wade but there were no takers. The problem the Heat were faced with was the potential of giving Wade his money which supposedly was $20M and the rest to fill out the roster with mid level players and watch a repeat of Kobe play out in Miami just to keep him.

So for me it was the right call for both sides.

Exactly. Miami's initial offer of $10 million per season was downright insulting, especially in this era in which Mozgov is making $16 million per season. I think Riley almost dared Wade to leave with that initial offer, and Wade took the dare, even after Miami's last-ditch offer of $20 million per year.

The next seismic move in the NBA will be what OKC does with Westbrook. If he tells Presti he won't commit to a revised, bigger deal before the season starts, I would start making phone calls right away to try and work a trade before Russ becomes the second top-12 NBA player to walk from OKC with nothing in return for the Thunder.

If I was Presti, my first call would be to Mitch Kupchak of the Lakers.
