I'll come out of my TGC slumber to play in this one... thanks for setting it up Don. I'd still be slurping this game if I hadn't experienced the controller swing of Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf. I have a hunch TGC2 is going to capture some of the added dimensions of JNPG's swing, and possibly then some! Craig's recreation of Oakmont is masterful!

Head's up: You'll find the DSP Open under Tour, not Tournament, in the menu. I got confused and hope this helps any other DSP imbeciles.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Wow. The first round was pure torture. These greens are DIABOLICAL, both for putting and approaches with sadistic pin placements. Just filled the Porta-John with sh*t in my first round.
Craig's course is a masterpiece. It's also the hardest course I've played in TGC, and my personal play list is more than 100 courses.
Nutso. But fun.

This tournament (actually tour) shows up on the PC version, but I'm not able to launch it. There's no "A" button (advance) to press to start it. All that is there is a "B" button to go back to the menu. It's called the DSP Open and all four rounds are there like you describe. Did you happen to set one up on the PC also Don, or is this just some sort of quirk with the game? I'll play the XB1 version if it's not supposed to be there.
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Yeah, thanks for clarification. It is confusing. Never quite understood the naming convention. As much as I like TGC, I hope TGC2 improves the UI both in performance and intuitiveness. Took me like 15 minutes to create this Tour, as I kept getting disconnects and I learned the hard way to SAVE after adding each round.pk500 wrote:Head's up: You'll find the DSP Open under Tour, not Tournament, in the menu. No doubt, I am only through 9 and I am like 15 over or something crazy like that. I think the next three rounds should not be as hard, at least based on what I am reading in the forums.pk500 wrote:Wow. The first round was pure torture. Must be a quirk as I only have it for XB1. That would be really cool if it was cross platform though.J_Cauthen wrote:This tournament (actually tour) shows up on the PC version, but I'm not able to launch it. Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I was +11 in the first round with a quad, triple and two double bogeys. I had few problems tee to green. But those greens are the golf equivalent of waterboarding.
My handicap is +1.4. I normally shoot right around par on some of the toughest courses, -3 to -5 on some easier tracks.
Holy sh*t.

+3 after the first round, triple bogeyed #6 with terrible misses of short putts. Hit one out of the bunker for a birdey on #8 and finished with a downhill putt on 18 for a birdey.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Okay, I just found it on the XB1 under Tours, but again there's no "A" button to Advance for the DSP Open. I hit the "A" button anyway, but got no chime. I then looked at the Tour below yours in the "Newest" Tour list and it didn't have an "A" button to advance in it either. The second one below your called "Zoo Games" has and "A" button available to me and it chimes and advances when I hit it. I feel like such a n00b right nowDChaps wrote:Must be a quirk as I only have it for XB1. That would be really cool if it was cross platform though.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Finished. +3, +4, +5, -1

I'm going to try playing here again in a few... maybe a reboot of my XB1 will fix whatever the issue is with me not having an "Advance" button? I know one thing, I'll have a hard time matching the score you've posted at this track!vader29 wrote:Finished. +3, +4, +5, -1

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Still can't launch this tournament on the XB1. The title screen for the tour shows up, but there's no Advance "A" button to press. Obviously some of you are able to play it. I just don't have a clue as to what's holding me out.
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
What is your XB1 Gamertag? Is it possible you are not on my friends list? I think I did set this up as a Private Match, which I believe it means that it is only available to my friends on Xbox Live.J_Cauthen wrote:Still can't launch this tournament on the XB1. Yep, that's what it is... the way I found out was I saw that James (10spro) had started his round at Oakmont 10 minutes earlier, and I tried to join his round. I got a message back saying it was a private competition. My XBox Live tag is J Cauthen.DChaps wrote:What is your XB1 Gamertag? Is it possible you are not on my friends list? So much for the second day being easier than the first. DIABOLICAL!
Excess tequila and other adult pleasures didn't help, either.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
It's been forever since I played this game and it absolutely showed in every single hole of the first two rounds. I forgot how annoying it is when you think you pasted your ball in the greens yet it keeps on sailing. The fact that Oakmont is a skating green doesn't help. My pitching game sucks, and with little confidence I went back to flopping shots with the SW around the roughs.
But nice to play tournaments again with a DSP crew.

You are added to my friends list now. Sorry about that.J_Cauthen wrote: Yep, that's what it is... the way I found out was I saw that James (10spro) had started his round at Oakmont 10 minutes earlier, and I tried to join his round. Also, I guess I don't know what I am doing in setting these things up. It appears instead of being a 4 day tournament using different versions of Oakmont per day, it is treating it like 4 separate competitions. Is there a way to accomplish what I am trying to do? There must be and I am too old to figure it out.
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
You did it the only way you can do it, and have four separate pin placements. Most of the TGC Tour events are set up exactly the same way, so don't feel like the lone ranger. This is one of the many areas in which TGC 2 will improve on its predecessor. You'll be able to use the same course with multiple pin placements in it.DChaps wrote:You are added to my friends list now. Sorry about that.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I wound up not being able to get a single round in as Sunday had too much packed into it to give me any time to even boot up my XB1. I've still got one round left to play in the U.S. Open in Online Golf Tour Real Time Swing Tour before Thursday in Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf, which is now looking like I won't have time to do until Wednesday night. Hate I missed this one though as I would have liked to have vicariously experienced some of the misery that Shane Lowry must have experienced yesterday at Oakmont!
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Speaking of miseries and slightly off topic, imagine if DJ had another collapse due to the negligence, stupidity, ignorance and arrogance of the USGA for penalizing him a stroke, not in the 5th hole but only on the 12th. A ball that if it did move, it might have been caused by anyone walking around the greens, the way how slippery it was out there. DJ told them right away it wasn't him, but to wait 7 holes after that he would be penalized, how's that for throwing off your game gunning at your first major, no less?
Shame on the USGA.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
HB Studios had some streams today revealing the new game. The old player models are still in the alpha so we won't see those yet. Give it a look on their Twitch channel.

Fellas.
Question about Handicaps.
A good buddy of mine and I are pretty equal in regards to our skill level with this game. When viewing stats>handicap record My handicap is listed as a 0.1 Plus Handicap. His is listed as a 23.6 (no plus)
What's the difference between a plus handicap and a regular handicap? Why, if our skill levels are so close is the handicap so different?
Also, thanks to whoever posted about Oceanic Athletic Club. What an amazing course. We also played Ascension Bay last night which is done by the same designer. Wow. Stunning courses and really well thought out. That guy know his stuff!!!!!

'i haven't played this game in a long time. Do the user created courses have better graphics and less resource intensive i.e. do the trees still look like they were used from the original Xbox?

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Depends on the designer. Craig LeVasseur, who lurks and posts here, is probably the best in the world.Rodster wrote:'i haven't played this game in a long time. Go to any of Magnolia National courses (Augusta) and hit the X button to search "Other Courses by This Designer." Then you'll see all of Craig's other courses. They're masterpieces, including his newest - Oakmont.
Here is Craig's blog, with a list of his courses and his favorites from other designers: http://clvgolf.com/
You also can find some great courses from expert designers like Craig, Adam Benjamin, Mikael Thunberg, Brian Jeffords, Rich Banker, Andre Quenneville, Job Fickett, Wendy Airey and David Jensen here: http://www.tgctours.com/Course/Listings
None of the TGC courses will look as good as Rory's. The developers have nowhere near the same budget as EA, and they're using an older graphics engine. But TGC is far more fun to play than Rory, and the user-generated courses provide endless challenge, freshness and replay ability.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
It took awhile to figure out how to download user created courses. I went to download the Pebble Beach course since it was rated a 10 and then was redirected to the Steam store to upgrade the game. Is the premium version or whatever it's called, required to play user created courses? I still feel the sting at spending $35 on this game and don't want to spend anymore.
