I'm gutted. Gordie Howe was the greatest all-around player in hockey history.

I also had the pleasure of meeting him at a hockey banquet when I was in eighth grade, and he was so kind while giving me and each kid an autograph, a smile and advice. One of my all-time hockey heroes. I'm glad you're together again with your beloved Colleen, Mr. Hockey.

First, The Greatest. Now, Mr. Hockey. Two of my all-time sports heroes are gone within a week.

His single presence alone taught everyone about respect and fair game in a sport that could be violent. A mentor to #99 and other hockey fans and a classic gentleman. His autobiography "Mr Hockey" is a great read.

RIP Mr Howe.
