Speaking as the guy who joined the last rally and got DQed to boot, I don't think the points matter that much. I mean, if there's an easy way to drop some rounds, go for it, but don't go out of your way to do it manually! It's appreciated enough that you put these together and post them on here!

I think for most of us it's just a fun way to compete with each other and try to set fast times against each other.... or in my case, finish a rally without killing

a)me
b)my navigator
or c)some bloke on the side of the road.

For me personally, this is awesome, as it's hard for me to join a live multiplayer anything these days with the kid and all, so being able to log some laps at my own convenience to remind myself how shitty i am compared to the rest of you is fun to me!

Considering this is the Dark Souls of racing games, it's obviously the only choice!!

With every roll over, broken axle, blown tire, tree you hit, ditch you get stuck in, and cliff you fly off of, you learn something.

I don't like the idea of dropping rallies with poor performances. Unrealistic, which betrays a hardcore sim like DIRT Rally.

My 7 cents ...

I'm against drop weeks for the same reason I'm against restarts. Takes a lot of what makes rallying great out of the equation. I really think sticking with one car for a while would help, but I saw Zeppo say he liked the variety, so I'm good with whatever there.

I think with the short-ish seasons, 6 weeks is perfectly fine to have no drop weeks. Honestly, the points don't matter much to most of us. Just doing normal scoreboard chasing like we do with Rivals or anything else. I usually just block out a 30 to 45 minute stretch at some point in the week and knock it out, but I'm not traveling around like PK, either.

I won't stamp my feet and pout if we stick with one car class for the next season. If that's the consensus, I'll be happy. And I agree with everyone above about not needing a drop-week option.

The drop weeks were just an idea to try to hold interest as people take vacations, but I am good without them and agree with the feedback. :)
What about the next 6 week season being Route 2 of all 6 rally venues, and I will do a better job of varying the long and sprints as well as the reverses, and we stick with just the 2010 (modern day cars) for the whole season. To mix it up without being too complicated, the idea would be that everyone needs to use each of the four cars for at least one Rally. Adds a little strategy, and some variety, but staying in the same car class, and everyone ends up not all driving the Polo.

From the excellent DiRT Rally Car Comparison Guide:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =462311586

03:36.174 - Volkswagen Polo Rally (Gears 16fR / Paddle-shifter / 540°) ★★★☆☆
03:37.557 - Mini Countryman Rally Edition (Gears 16fR / Sequential / 540°) ★★☆☆☆
03:37.941 - Ford Fiesta RS Rally (Gears 16fR / Sequential / 540°) ★★★☆☆
03:40.307 - Hyundai Rally (Gears 16fR / Sequential / 540°) ★☆☆☆☆

The latest generation of rally cars included in the game shows exactly how they have evolved over time. As engine power has been restricted for a while the focus shifted to other parts like drivetrain and suspension. The modern sequential gearboxes just breeze through the gears, the difference is outstanding when compared to the older cars. This class can get close to the times set with Group B cars, but still unable to surpass those.

03:36.174 - Volkswagen Polo Rally
With 318 bhp the Polo is the most powerful car in this class. That coupled with good straight line traction makes it a rocket flying down the straights. Going around turns it ain't too shabby either, however the Fiesta is superior in that regard. Feels heavier than it is but that's not necessarily a con in this case. The steering is direct and the suspension is firm enough to give a nice planted feel. Overall the Polo offers the most complete package in this class.

03:37.557 - Mini Countryman Rally Edition
A highly underrated car in this class. I'm personally puzzled a bit how it can keep up with the Polo and the Fiesta to be honest. I thought it was heavier than the others but looking at the stats they're all on par. However it feels as if the center of mass is higher on this car making it clumsier. On the upside the lateral grip is good but as a result requires bigger steering input to get the car to turn in. Only the brakes are subpar but that doesn't prevent the Mini to be the aspiring underdog.

03:37.941 - Ford Fiesta RS Rally
At first I thought this would be the obvious winner in this class as everything feels just right about this car. Decent acceleration coupled with surprisingly strong brakes. The handling is fine as the steering response is crisp. It's definitely snappier than the other ones, sometimes makes it feel like sideways is the only way with the Fiesta. It shines on twisty, slower paced stages where the slightly underpowered engine plays a smaller role.

03:40.307 - Hyundai Rally
I dare to call it the unofficial rally school car. The suspension is so forgiving and has such incredible bump tolerance, that this alone justifies the label. Literally nothing can get in its way (except a Hinkelstein), it simply hovers over obstacles. On tarmac it feels a bit wobbly though. Takes quite an effort to crash with this car, so if you do then you should really check your speed. While you're not going to break world records in the i20, it's the best way to get started driving a 4WD rally car.

The random stuff works, but then you still end up with the Polo on 3 of the 6 stages mostly. It's better than nothing, though.

What about making the Polo tier 1, the Mini Tier 2, etc.? Then the top 25% finishers use the Hyundai the next week? The bottom 25% use the Polo? Make an inverse car selection from week to week. Still varies the car within the class, and tries to create parity through car choice.

And again, THANK YOU for setting this up, Don. It's a lot of time and effort to coordinate something like this, so thanks, man.

Yes, thanks again for setting this up! I only got a couple Rallies in, so I'm looking forward to the next 'season' being fired up ASAP. :)

(Besides, if I don't beat fshguy at something, I'm never going to live it down)

I'll keep watchin' this space for news of the launch of the next go-round...

Good to be back :)

Can I get a quick "show of hands" of who plans on participating in the next 6 week season which will start this coming Monday 6/6/2016? Does not matter if you plan on just one or all six. The more the merrier. Also please list your Xbox Live Gamertag if it's not already in your signature, and your Codemaster's Racenet Login. They are not necessarily the same and Codemaser uses one for the stage results and another for the seasons standings. Kind of annoying. Anyway, this will help me with the results and stats tracking. And if you want to, you can post your actual name if you are so inclined, but not required. For example, for me it would be:

Real Name: Don Chapman
Gamertag: DChaps66
Racenet: DChaps

Thanks!

PS - I like Terry's tier idea, so here is what I am thinking, but feel free to poke holes in this:.

Tier 1:
Volkswagen Polo Rally
Tier 2:
Mini Countryman Rally Edition
Ford Fiesta RS Rally
Tier 3:
Hyundai Rally

Top 25 % from previous week must use Tier 3 - Hyundai Rally

Middle 50% may use Tier 2 or Tier 3

Bottom 25% may use Tier 1 (Volkswagen Polo Rally), Tier 2, or Tier 3

Will get in as many as I can. I start to travel heavily to work races this month through September. Plus it's a very busy time with my daughter's high school graduation and summer sports for her and other two kids.

Thanks for organizing, The Donald!
