It is an awesome value. I need to get back in. I have been playing NBA2K so i havent been on the links in a while.pk500 wrote:I've been playing TGC like these are my final days on Earth, averaging anywhere between 36 and 54 holes per day. Especially this week, as I'm on staycation.
My mission is to enjoy as many of the recommended courses I've found on TGC Tour sites on the Web and Twitter, with about 50 still on my list to play. Two recent gems:
Kobeoshi Royal
The Victory Golf Club
I see a handful of you have played Kobeoshi Royal. Great challenge without being too fantasy or too cheap. The Victory Golf Club is just a tremendously challenging, realistic track.
TGC is the best golf game I've played, and the rest lag far behind. This is easily one of my 10 favorite video games of all time. The swing mechanics are fantastic. The variety is wonderful. The seemingly limitless number of quality, user-generated courses offers incredible variety and value.
I have zero desire to return to EA golf. None.

Kobeoshi Royal and The Victory Golf Club are indeed great tracks. I've played them both multiple times across the three platforms. This game hangs with me as well and I think a lot of it has to do with the constant theme updating and steady quality user created courses appearing. In fact, it's almost a problem that there are so many good courses to play that it's hard to pick out the truly great ones.pk500 wrote:I've been playing TGC like these are my final days on Earth, averaging anywhere between 36 and 54 holes per day. I have a challenge for you... play a course called "Promenade Golf Club" and then come back and tell me what theme it is

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Respectfully disagree. TGC is a great VALUE with thousands of courses. However, the swing is the worst part of the game, IMO. The latest update made the swing even easier than before which was the easiest to execute a perfect swing of any Golf game I have ever played and I have played every one since PGA TOUR for the Sega Genesis. There is zero tempo and little to no mis-hit penalty for off-center swings. The swing is a joke to actual golfers and the Devs are perfectly happy to leave the swing alone and continue with only one swing difficulty, the only golf game I have played with that distinction.pk500 wrote:The swing mechanics are fantastic. Glad you like the gameplay PK, but it is THE issue that has driven me away from the game (and no, EA's latest game has nothing to do with the way I feel). TGC is an arcade game now and there is no way it can be compared to past Golf games that gave users OPTIONS on gameplay challenge. Enjoy the game though, because that is all that really matters.
Take care....
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I agree that the swing is the weakest part of TGC, especially for higher skilled gamers of Tim's caliber. I'm barely above average, but I find it's a bit too easy to hit the ball straight. I don't score any better because I make a lot of bad decisions about course management, and frankly find myself playing too many new courses in sight-seer mode than golf scoring mode. wish there was a "Club Pro" difficulty to TGC that required purer tracking of the Y axis and required a ratioed, tempo swing to get both full power and accuracy. If you're too quick on your tempo, you'd get a pull, to slow, a push, for example.
I don't see another difficulty level coming though. My best guess is they have enough data to suggest there's not enough demand for it. Even as it is, it's still a game I find myself playing just about every day, as I still find quality courses that provide pleasing scoring challenges without being tricked up. I'm an average +4 Handicap across the three platforms, so I'm sure I'm less put off by the ease of the swing than Tim, whom I think is in the +8 to +10 handicap range? I also use house rules, in which I don't allow myself to loft or deloft pitch shots. I play them by modulating swing speed. It's easy to hit those straight, yes, but it does require some touch that the game misses most places other than putting.

I agree fully with the above post by John.
However, I would like an optional harder swing for all clubs available in the game for those desiring a more difficult challenge.

Fellas.
I'm a bit hooked on this game at the moment. I bought it this summer but never really gave it much time. That has changed and for the last week it's about all i've been playing with the occasional break for Fifa or BF4.
A couple of questions;
1. A few days ago I came across a list from last month of the top 100 courses for the game. It was very detailed and of course now I can't locate it. Any suggestions as to what courses I should play would be appreciated.
2. Have any of you created and published a course?

Hey Guys.
I just published my first course. What started as a generated course turned into a marathon of tweaking and more tweaking until tonight I simply decided to publish it. It's no masterpiece but I really enjoyed the experience of learning the tool and would like to invite you guys to check it out. The name of the course is Gaslight Country Club. I just finished playing it and thought it played a nice round of golf. Enjoy.

Is there going to be a sequel to this game or should one just buy it? I've been watching some of your clips on the hub recently. Also, are the course add ons free?

I was on fire last night with my putter. Drained two 25+ footers with severe breaks. Had to upload those clips!fsquid wrote:Is there going to be a sequel to this game or should one just buy it? I've been watching some of your clips on the hub recently. Also, are the course add ons free?

By the way, John: Just get this game. Superb fun. Endless number of high-quality, community-built courses, with many real-life layouts, too.

Yes, Magnolia National, Georgia (2016), by Craig LeVasseur. All his courses are pretty awesome. Check it out below.Sudz wrote:Is there one course that is close to Augusta?

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Magnolia National 2016 isn't close to Augusta. It IS Augusta. And LeVasseur designed layouts for all four days of the tournament, with varying winds and progressively harder pin placements for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
LeVasseur is the best TGC course designer, IMO. EA should hire the guy.
More of my favorite designers:
Adam Benjamin
Mikael Thunberg
Brian Jeffords
Rich Banker
Andre Quenneville
Job Fickett
Wendy Airey
You won't go wrong playing any courses built by these ultra-talented designers. They must put tens or hundreds of hours into these layouts and then give them to us!
Find all of their work at http://www.tgctours.com/Course/Listings. It's an incredible repository of the best user-made courses for TGC.
Enjoy, f*ckers!

Just buy it. If you have a nice PC, buy it for that because the PC version is far and away better looking and performing than either console.fsquid wrote:Is there going to be a sequel to this game or should one just buy it? Oh hi there. So I registered here a long time ago, might have been 4 months, might have been a lot longer, I can't remember. So what a surprise today that I get an e-mail saying I've been registered. Edit: There it is... December 24th, lol.
Anyways, I thought you all might want to have a go at Oakmont: http://www.hb-studios.com/forum/index.php?topic=15462.0
The HB forums seem to be going through a slight uptick in activity after a really dull period. Not sure if that is an accurate indicator, but maybe folks are getting back into the game?
