Re: Forza 6
I am posting this here as a long shot, although DSP has come through for me in all sorts of areas that were unexpected. My trusty Thrustmaster TX stopped functioning properly on my Xbox One over the weekend and I have not had any response from the Turn 10 or Thrustmaster support as of yet, so I thought I would post here as well in case any of you with a TX (all two of you) might have some ideas.
I have been using my Thrustmaster TX steering wheel for about two years now(thanks Mix!) with FM5, FH2, and FM6 and have had no problems to date and been very happy with it in those games. However, last week it started to not be recognized by the Xbox One when I plug it in. When you power it on, it goes through the calibration and the lights come on as normal, but then the lights go off and it is not recognized as a working controller within the XBox One interface. Pushing the buttons does nothing. It performs the exact same way when connected to the PC. In fact, it does exactly as what is shown in these youtube videos below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6g23Azokog
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9xF-wQkMOg
Based on my research (see links below), this appears to be a common problem and is related to the USB cable and the breakaway cable piece specifically.
I replaced the breakaway cable and for one day that seemed to have solved the problem. Then the next day, even using the new cable it started happening again. For a couple of days, just trial and error of unplugging the USB connection and the power would eventually result in the Xbox One recognizing the controller, but now nothing. After about 50 attempts in a row no luck. Have now tried three different USB break away cables with the same results. This wheel is over two years old, so I do not believe it will be covered by Thrustmaster, but I have contacted their support as well.
Anyone else have this problem and encountered any other solutions?
I hate to lose this wheel, as I have actually found it to be quite enjoyable. I have never had one of the really high end wheels, but over the years have owned many Logitech wheels, Thrustmaster, TSW, etc. and this one was pretty good for the price and worked well for both Xbox One and my PC racing sims.

Re: Forza 6
I had that exact issue.
I cut the cable, stripped the breakaway out of the picture, re-wired everything back together (it's nice and color coded), electrical taped everything back together, and good as new.
You're fine as long as you don't have any issues cutting/stripping wires and splicing them all back together and wrapping it back up nicely.
I was dealing with it for a long time, and finally just cutting out the breakaway (how often do I really need that anyway) resolved it permanently. Haven't had a single issue since.
My original post from the G920 thread (and it was right around the 2 year mark, FWIW):

It's worked ever since.TCrouch wrote:So I fixed my TX wheel. I knew the breakaway adapter was the part that seemed bad, as I could wiggle that little plastic section of the breakaway and it would restore connection, then fritz out during calibration. If I got it JUST RIGHT it could sometimes hold connection, but one bump or hard turn and it would shut itself off again, mid-race. I tried other dongles that have the USB end and the round plastic connector on the other, and the problem persisted.
So I said f*ck it, it's busted anyway. Cut the cable on both ends of the breakaway, stripped back the rubber and the wire mesh, spliced everything together and wrapped it back up with electrical tape--works flawlessly again.
It looks pretty ghetto, but it works once more. Probably won't be buying a G920 now hah
Re: Forza 6
Thanks so much Terry, that seems to have done the trick. As you said, it is pretty straight forward, even for someone like me. I found a post that shows pictures. DSP comes through again!

In the meantime, I also found that Walmart has the Thrustmaster TX on sale right for $299, and I just might order another one for "backup" now that my son is getting into racing sims as well.

Re: Forza 6
Glad it helped, Don. I remember being in the exact same spot, frustrated and unsure of what was going on. Mine was something that was hit or miss. I never Googled to see if it was a common thing, but I knew if I wiggled the breakaway connector, it would re-detect, and then lose it again.
I'm pretty sure it's THEIR side of the breakaway that goes bad...either the contacts are sh*t, or the internal cabling is screwed up on them, so replacing the other side of the connector does nothing.
I'm really happy it was the same thing, though. It's an easy fix, and it should be rock-solid again now.
Race on!

New Track: Virginia International Raceway:
One of America’s greatest race tracks, Virginia International Raceway (VIR) is nestled in the beautiful rolling hills on the state line between Virginia and North Carolina. Considered one of the most challenging tracks in North America (if not the world), the track’s 17 turns over 3.27 miles are acclaimed by drivers from all racing disciplines. While the track layout has never been altered since its inception in 1957, several sections have been widened to better accommodate passing. VIR is a track that will take time to master; there is speed to be found all over the track and, given its considerably narrow run, mistakes will cost you. Variety is everywhere too; from the long straights where power is king to the Oak Tree corner, a lap of VIR feels like a journey. In the early years, you could find racing greats like Carroll Shelby and Richard Petty taming these turns. Today, VIR remains a vigorous and unforgettable challenge for cars and drivers of any age.
Re: Forza 6
I'm excited to try out the expansion, never driven VIR before and it is always nice to have a new track.
I like the number of race cars on the list, most excited to try out the 962 and 919. The biggest omission for me is the 917, in either its Le Mans or Can-Am variant.
And dammit, what will it take to get Mid Ohio in a game again? It is the one reason I still have Race Pro, just in case it becomes backwards compatible.

Re: Forza 6
Weird to see that announcement that Forza is coming to PC. Not sure whether it can succeed on PC against the titles that are there, but it sort of hits a different niche, so maybe it can.

Re: Forza 6
I'm ALL OVER this Porsche expansion. I saw many of these cars within inches of my feet and on track at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion last September at Laguna Seca, one of the most fantastic motor racing events I've ever attended/worked.
And VIR is a super track. I knew little about the circuit before I started working in sports cars in 2014. Now I respect it as one of America's best natural terrain road courses, right up there with Road America, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca and Mid-Ohio.

Re: Forza 6
Wow, you are certainly correct about VIR. I didn't spend much time with the game last night, but it was a lot of fun finding more speed with each lap around the track. Really scenic, too, reminded me a little of Lime Rock in that way.pk500 wrote:And VIR is a super track. I knew little about the circuit before I started working in sports cars in 2014. Re: Forza 6
Wow, so much racing sim and Forza news coming out this week that I can't keep up!
Anyway, our good friend Brian Ekberg just posted the following news about new League and Rivals Challenge events based around the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series. This is right up my alley and kind of similar idea to the rivals challenges I tried to do in FM5. I love this kind of stuff, and I was just getting into driving all the Porsche at VIR!

Forza Motorsport 6 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series
Today Forza and Lamborghini unveiled the next step in our ongoing partnership. As part of that collaboration, we’re unveiling a brand new program in Forza Motorsport 6 – the Lamborghini Super Trofeo race series! The Lamborghini Super Trofeo series is an exciting new way for Forza Motorsport 6 players to compete across two full seasons of Rivals and League events in some of Lamborghini’s most exciting race cars. In addition, all Forza 6 players will have a chance to earn an exclusive bonus car – the 2015 Lamborghini #63 Squadra Corse Hurácan LP620-2 Super Trofeo.
Starting today, we are kicking off a series of Lamborghini-themed events in Rivals and Leagues that will give every Forza 6 player the chance to earn cars they won’t get anywhere else, including that exclusive Hurácan Super Trofeo. The Lamborghini Super Trofeo series will be split into two three-week seasons; here’s a closer look at how each season will run and what’s at stake.
SEASON 1: March 2 – 22
In Season 1 players will be competing in weekly Rivals and League events in order to earn special liveried variants of the 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo race car. Each Tuesday, we’ll open up a new Rivals event starring the 2014 Lamborghini #18 DragonSpeed Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo on a new track, and that event will close on the subsequent Monday. Depending on how players finish in that week’s Rivals event, they will have a chance at earning a special gold, silver, or bronze variant liveried version of the Gallardo Super Trofeo.
Each Friday, we will then open a new League event, starring the 2014 Lamborghini #14 GMG Racing LP 570-4 Super Trofeo; these League events will run until the following Monday and players will be able to earn another variant liveried version of the GMG Racing Super Trofeo based on their finish position in the League. See the chart below for more details on how to earn each weekly event’s variant cars.
Your ultimate goal for Season 1 is to earn the exclusive bonus car – the 2015 Lamborghini #63 Squadra Corse Hurácan LP620-2 Super Trofeo – which will only be available via this Lamborghini Super Trofeo series, and which will be your ticket to competing in Season 2. To earn this exclusive bonus car, all you need to do is collect THREE of the variant livery Lamborghini Super Trofeo cars during Season 1. You can mix and match however you like – for example, earning three bronze Variant Livery Gallardos via weekly Rivals, or two League variants and one Rivals variant. However you do it, get three Super Trofeos in Season 1 and you will earn you the Hurácan Super Trofeo and entrance into Season 2.
Weekly Rewards – Season 1
Rivals Bronze Variant Livery Gallardo Super Trofeo - Set a clean lap in weekly Rivals event
Rivals Silver Variant Livery Gallardo Super Trofeo - Finish in the top 15% of weekly Rivals event
Rivals Gold Variant Livery Gallardo Super Trofeo - Finish in the top 5% of weekly Rivals event
League Variant Livery GMG Racing Super Trofeo - Finish in the top 50% of weekly League
Hurácan Super Trofeo Bonus Car - Finish Season 1 with three Super Trofeo variants
SEASON 2: March 22 – April 12
Season 2 kicks off on 3/22 and will end on 4/12. As mentioned above, Season 2 is all about the 2015 Lamborghini #63 Squadra Corse Hurácan LP620-2 Super Trofeo, which will be the sole car used in all of the events. As in Season 1, we’ll be kicking off three weeks of weekly Rivals and League events starring the Hurácan and, just as in Season 1, you’ll be able to collect liveried variants of this exclusive bonus car, depending on how you finish each week in the Rivals and League events (see table below for details).
The series’ ultimate prize is a one-of-a-kind liveried version of the Super Trofeo Hurácan, available only to those players who have collected ALL SIX Hurácan variants during Season 2. Naturally the competition will be tougher in Season 2, making this the ultimate prize for Lamborghini race fans.
Weekly Rewards – Season 2
Rivals Bronze Variant Livery Hurácan Super Trofeo - Set a clean lap in weekly Rivals event
Rivals Silver Variant Livery Hurácan Super Trofeo - Finish in the top 15% of weekly Rivals event
Rivals Gold Variant Livery Hurácan Super Trofeo - Finish in the top 5% of weekly Rivals event
League Variant Livery Hurácan Super Trofeo - Finish in the top 50% of weekly League
Ultimate Trophy Variant Hurácan Super Trofeo - Finish Season 2 with six Hurácan variants
NOTE: Players can only win ONE car per week via Rivals, depending on where they finish in that week’s event. For example, a top 5% finisher will win the Gold Variant Livery Hurácan, but will not win the Silver and Bronze variants.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo series begins today in Forza Motorsport 6. Stay tuned for updates throughout the series, and good luck to all players!

The Porsche Expansion is worth every penny of $20. All of the Porsches are just so lovely to drive -- no other way to describe. Ideal balance, excellent, progressive power. Plus VIR is a mighty track to drive.

Agreed. I have already run each Porsche in its stock configuration around VIR daytime full just to get a feel for each car. Very good expansion. I love Virginia International Raceway, thanks to iRacing (one of the first tracks they had in the sim), and I was about to post that FM6 is the first console game to have VIR, but in checking their wiki, it appears there were a couple Playstation games that had it. Interesting....pk500 wrote:The Porsche Expansion is worth every penny of $20. All of the Porsches are just so lovely to drive -- no other way to describe. Ideal balance, excellent, progressive power. I love that FM6 has so many of the cars and tracks from the old IMSA, SCCA, Trans-Am, and Can-Am series, but I agree we need Mid-Ohio!!VIR's North Course is featured in the video games Supercar Challenge and Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli. All six configurations are featured in iRacing.
VIR will be featured in Forza Motorsport 6 as an addition to the Porsche Expansion Pack on March 1st, 2016. The track will be featured with all six of its layouts; as well as daytime, nighttime, dry, and wet conditions

Re: Forza 6
It's funny: I was talking on the phone Wednesday to IMSA's PR director, a longtime friend and colleague of mine, and we agreed that the only classic, iconic track not on the WeatherTech Championship schedule this year is Mid-Ohio.DChaps wrote:I love that FM6 has so many of the cars and tracks from the old IMSA, SCCA, Trans-Am, and Can-Am series, but I agree we need Mid-Ohio!!
Otherwise, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship has it all. Nice mix of DPs and P2 cars in Prototype, an insane factory battle brewing in GTLM, solid racing in PC and upward of six or seven manufacturers in GTD, all on some of the best circuits in North America.
Sports car racing rules.

Even though it isn't used for major events these days, it would be cool to have Portland International Raceway in a modern game. I remember liking it in the Papyrus IndyCar games and remember the old GI Joe's 200 CART races fondly.

Good call. Always liked the back "straight" from Turns 7-11. Could run that wide open in CART World Series -- a great game -- on the original PlayStation in the late 90s.Dave wrote:Even though it isn't used for major events these days, it would be cool to have Portland International Raceway in a modern game. Re: Forza 6
I am doing the Lamborghini rivals events and after a night of running, Watkins Glen is kicking my ass apparently. It is funny to compare it to Monza - never felt like I figured out the best line through a couple of the chicanes or parabolica but ended up putting in a top 10% lap. A lap at the Glen feels really fast, but it just isn't.
Last night I just couldn't find additional speed after setting a 1:50-something during an early lap (put me in the top 25-30%). Thinking through it, I must be losing a lot of time by not carrying enough speed through the apex of some of the corners. But I have tried a slower corner entry, more trail braking (which I'm not good at), earlier apex, later apex, etc.
I really hope they don't use Yas Marina for any of the future Rivals events, that's another one where I can't seem to find the pace.

Just bought the Porsce expansion today, and holy crap, that's how you do an expansion for this game. It's really well done, and totally worth the $20.

Re: Forza 6
Damn straight! It's all I've done in Forza 6 since buying it. I'm almost done with the Showcases and almost halfway through the Anthology mode. Enjoy!

Re: Forza 6
I've loved this series since Forza 2. It's not perfect, but damn it just pulls me in. I'd hate to know how many hot laps I've run alone at Long Beach, Tsukuba, Road Atlanta and Laguna.
Re: Forza 6
Man, I have really been bad in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series, but it is a fun car to drive. So far in Week 1 and Week 2, all I managed to win was the Rivals Bronze Variant Livery by setting a clean lap in the weekly Rivals event. Below are the results of Week 1 and Week 2 which were just the stock car with no tuning or builds allowed. However, Week 3 at Silverstone does allow for tuning and builds. So far I am about 10 seconds off the pace. For those of you that have not competed yet, come on before Season 1 is over. The Silverstone event ends at midnight Pacific time on 3/21.DChaps wrote:Wow, so much racing sim and Forza news coming out this week that I can't keep up!Anyway, our good friend Brian Ekberg just posted the following news about new League and Rivals Challenge events based around the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series.

Re: Forza 6
Wish they had kept it stock, but oh well. I tried the tune used by the top guy and those guys have a lot more car control than I do, there was no way I could keep the rear of the car under control.
Turn 10 released a new car pack today. My favorite from the bunch is the Jaguar XJR-9, which adds to the amazing collection of old IMSA cars. I took it for a spin around Road America and that V12 gives it a nice, big power band. Really fun to drive.

A new era for the Forza Motorsport series begins on May 5 with the release of the open beta for Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. Crafted specifically for Windows 10, Apex represents the critical first step in the future of the Forza franchise as it expands into Windows 10 PCs. Apex combines the power and performance of DirectX 12 with Turn 10’s racing expertise, our proprietary ForzaTech™ engine, and Forza’s legacy of stellar content. Most importantly, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is our way to introduce Forza’s award-winning gameplay to a new audience on Windows 10 and invite a new group of gamers to develop a passion for cars and racing.
Forza Motorsport 6: Apex delivers a focused and curated single-player tour of Forza Motorsport’s best content, including authentic wheel-to-wheel action, unique automotive experiences, and constant rewards, all running on DirectX 12 at resolutions up to 4K. In the game, players will be able to dive into a new career mode anchored by a 12-event “Showcase Tour”, where players will race thrilling cars on circuits from across the globe. In addition, Apex’s new “Spotlight Series” events will challenge players with unique automotive events that will be updated on a regular basis. Along with a new set of Xbox Live achievements to earn worth 1000 gamerscore points, Apex players will find new mechanics to explore, including an all-new Race Points system that dares you to turn off the assists, develop your skills, and take on greater challenges.
In Apex, players will race a diverse line-up of 63 beautifully detailed Forzavista™ cars, each with working headlights, doors, and cockpits, intricately modeled interiors and exteriors, and full damage. Players can push those cars to their limits on 20 exciting track configurations across six locations, including night and wet-weather variants.
Open Beta Updates Delivered Throughout the Summer
During the open beta for Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, players can expect to play a beautiful, high quality experience that will run on a variety of Windows 10-enabled machines. As a first-party Microsoft studio, Turn 10 is obsessed with performance in Forza games and, during the open beta for Apex, we will be working to improve the game’s performance across a diverse selection of hardware setups (see below for our recommended PC specs).
As development continues, players can expect to see updates and improvements to the game.
For example, wheel support is coming to Forza Motorsport 6: Apex and Turn 10 is busy working to ensure that Apex delivers the kind of wheel support, performance, and features that racing fans expect from a range of available hardware. In addition we plan to support additional features that we know are important to PC gamers, such as the ability to disable Vsync and an in-app framerate counter.
Forza Motorsport 6: Apex utilizes the cloud-based Drivatars of your Xbox Live Friends and the Xbox One community, as well as asynchronous leaderboards for comparing your Race Points, but the game will not feature online multiplayer or the livery design editor. However, in an early beta update, we will be adding a selection of curated livery designs from the Forza painting community to the car select flow.

Re: Forza 6
Seeing as how I need Win 7 Pro to run my simulation codes from work, you won't see me playing Forza anytime soon. Shame it's Win 10, but I understand why MS is doing that.
