I looked for the old Division thread but couldn't find it. Anyway I played a lot of this over the weekend, including a few hours today (guess the Beta is still active) and I'm really excited for this game. The Beta lets you play through some of the story mission to the point where your appetite is wet. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but suffice it to say the way they have the initial story missions set up it will have a strong pull.

So what is there to do outside the story for single player or co-op? When countless missions pop up on the map, or you can just wander around and you will run into bad guys. At first I though every random encounter would be 2 bad guys looting a body but I ran into groups as large as 9 guys and some named guys. Named guys are harder to kill and often have some unique weapon to them. Some of the random missions are routine like rescue hostage or protect a Joint Task Force patrol. Other are more unique, I had to take down a bad guy strong hold which was intense because it has a really tough names enemy.

My favorite mission was from this morning, I* went to check out this mission on the map and it was a contaminated area. I had 5 minutes to infiltrate this building and turn on some virus scanners. Once that was done I had to get to another piece of equipment and upload the scanner data to the cloud. I had 3 minutes to do this while battling enemies on the rooftops of New York. I mentioned it before but on the PC the graphics are just amazing, best looking game I have ever seen. However one thing I never saw was the destructible cover they touted over a year ago. While windshields took bullet holes I never saw the bullets go through. It's also cool you can surpress enemies by laying down fire. This will come in handy during team play.

Finally Dark Zone, I ventured in a few times and I honestly don't get how everything works. I just know going in solo is not the smartest idea. I went in and immediately ran into other players. I teamed up with 3 guys and after we made a lose pact to not shoot each other. I think when you're in the dark zone once you shoot an agent you get a bounty level and are identified as a threat. This leads to everyone hunting you down, in a fire fight I accidentally shot a friendly and then the whole world was hunting me. I couldn't figure out how to call in extract from the various spots so I had to hoof it back to the entrance. Anyway in my dark zone team up we found a group of Rogue agents, the game really shined here. Team work, taking them down. Other agents in the battle as well. I managed to snag a nice piece of equipment and as we made are way down an alley after the firefight the 3 guys turned on me and I was dead. Surprisingly I wasn't pissed, I had thoughts of doing the same if I got the drop.

I'd sum up The Division as a modern day Destiny but with better missions. a more strategic game play due to the cover elements and with a possible better single player story. This immediately went back to my most anticipated game. It takes a bit of play time to see how good the game is but it's worth it. March 9th seems forever away at this point.

Quick question: Is The Division as much of a mindless AI grind as Destiny?

My biggest beef with Destiny was that some levels featured seemingly endless hordes of what had to be more than 100 enemies running at you in waves, firing weapons. It got REALLY tedious to simply dart to better cover points and mow down swaths of foes with ease, with yet another wave following.

Destiny made single-player Halo almost look tactical.

Not in my experience so far PK. The enemy AI is also better right off the jump because they take cover (most of them) and they also attempt to pin you down while their allies flank you. I never felt like I was grinding in my small play time, battles made sense so to speak.

The Dark Zone is intense! Pete and I went in there with one of his buddies and we got toasted. The game is definitely shaping up well. I really enjoyed the beta.

Best thing I can say about The Division is I wish I could play it again today. I never had that feeling with Destiny

This game will tempt me once it drops to $25-30. It's around $35-40 now.

Fellas. Quick question.

I've been unable to download a couple of game updates on my PS4.(World of Tanks and War Thunder) When I took a look at my storage I was shocked to notice how big game files were for games i've not downloaded. Dragon Age is 40+GB, MLB the Show is 37gb Fifa is 20gb, Project Cars is over 20gb. I understand some updates are huge as well.. but these numbers for physical disc games surprised the $^&% out of me. Are these file sizes strictly updates and gave saves files? (I currently have 25GB of space free) is there a minimum amount of space required for game updates to install?
Any help would be appreciated.

FIFA, forgive me if I'm not understanding correctly, but physical disc games still install on the hard drive. It sounds like you have a bunch of games installed. Even with some of the big patches and saves, it's unlikely for a game to venture past 15GB. If you need to clear up some space, try uninstalling any games you don't play now. Uninstalling the game itself will not delete any saves or associated files, just the game file itself.

Brando. Thanks for the reply. Apparently my next gen knowledge is lacking. So are you saying that all disc based games get installed to the HDD automatically? I remember back on the 360 we had a choice of installing the game or playing the game via the disc.

So.. I guess the next question is what is the best drive to buy to upgrade my PS4?

I guess it could work because there's a whole generation of kids who never played Call of Duty at its roots, when it was based in WWII. But do kids these days really care anymore about WWII? It may as well be the Civil War or American Revolution to them.

This game intrigues me. But I don't want to play COD or COD II again on current-gen hardware. I hope this game has real sim options. An Operation Flashpoint or ARMA-style game set in WWII would be incredible. But would it sell?

Paul, there is a trailer at the link above that goes into some specifics. They basically don't want it to be like COD, etc. They want to make it a skill based shooter. Give it a look.

Dude, they mention CoD 2 over and over. They even show the box. It's EXACTLY what they want to get back to.

Watched it from start to finish. They did reference old school shooters like COD and Counter Strike repeatedly in the video.

Still, this is very promising. Might toss a few bucks at the Kickstarter.

I agree 100 percent with these guys about skill being the true arbiter of a good shooter, not power-ups, rank, DLC battlepacks. All that sh*t and the Xbox Achievements are new developments in gaming I dislike.

NOW GET OFF MY LAWN.

Xerox, brother. Probably the first shooter I ever finished.

I loved that game so much that I would walk around my house saying, "Allied soldier!" and then hum the music that accompanied those scenes when the Krauts first noticed you lurking in the shadows, Browning ready to rip their heads from their torsos.

My wife and kids thought I was nuts. Not much has changed. :)
