Thanks to you all, I just picked this up today. The default config for the Thrustmaster TX is very off, but once I get my wheel dialed in I think this is going to be pretty cool. Exactly what I needed to kick off the 2016 racing season to go along with the real Monte Carlo event. I did not even realize that they actually have WRC 5 Championship going on with the real season. You do have to purchase DLC for $7.99 to do it, but I am a sucker for that kind of thing. Only a few hours left to post your times for this weekends events though.
TOP GAMERS WILL BEGIN THEIR CAMPAIGN FOR THE INAUGURAL ESPORTS WRC CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE DURING NEXT WEEK’S RALLYE MONTE-CARLO (21 - 24 JANUARY).
ADVERTISING
The excitement of the action on France’s treacherous Alpine mountain roads in the opening round of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship will be matched by the fierce competition on global game consoles.
The battle for the eSports world title will be played out on WRC 5, the WRC’s official video game. It is the first rally / racing game to feature its own global eSports championship, allowing gamers to compete in multi-player tournaments run simultaneously with WRC rounds.
It will bring the best WRC 5 drivers together for a tournament that starts next week and continues until the world champions are crowned on-event at Wales Rally GB (27 - 30 October).
The eSports WRC season is split into two halves, with separate categories for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC players. Each half has five tension-filled qualifying rounds and a semi-final held at the same time as WRC events, with the three top drivers on each platform invited to the final.
WRC 5 contains 78 different special stages
It will use special stages new to WRC 5 from the rally concerned. The Monte-Carlo round will use the La Salle en Beaumont - Corps test, which players have been downloading since December for practice.
The eSports rally weekend will comprise four days of action-packed competition from Thursday to Sunday. Players will have one opportunity each day to record their best time and claim a semi-final place.
The tournament is organised by WRC Promoter, WRC 5 publisher Bigben Interactive and developer Kylotonn Games, in conjunction with ESL, the world’s largest eSports company.
WRC 5 allows players to drive 78 different special stages, six each from 2015’s 13 rounds of motorsport’s toughest championship for production-based cars. Gamers can choose from 20 World Rally Car drivers, including star names such as world champion Sébastien Ogier, Kris Meeke, Thierry Neuville and Robert Kubica.

Good news, the game is on sale at GameStop for $29.99 through Feb 2. I'm going to put it on hold at a nearby store, looking forward to digging into it.

Ugh. I bought a pristine used copy last week at Gamestop for $39.99. The cheap f*ck in me winces. But screw it: I've had so much fun with this game in the last week that it's worth the extra $10.
This is the most unfairly maligned driving game of this generation. Seriously. WRC 5 is massive fun and an almost ideal simcade rally experience. I LOVE IT. Most fun I've had with a console rally game since Colin McRae Rally 2.0.

Another nice plus to this game: Setups make a difference.
I graduated from the Junior WRC to WRC-2 in my career. JWRC cars are spec and sealed, but setup changes can be made to WRC-2 cars. I tweaked some setups for my first WRC-2 rally, in Sweden, and won it by 10 seconds on the Hard skill level.
Setup changes suited to my driving style were a big plus. The car flowed much better on the stage.
Has anyone tweaked controller sensitivities for steering, braking and acceleration with an XB1 controller? I'm using the defaults, which have a bit of built-in dead zone. I'm thinking of going full sensitive, but I also like the slight sawing of the wheel you see with real WRC drivers.

Downloaded the demo the other night and played a few times. It's definitely a fun game, but it's not even in the same stratosphere as Dirt Rally as far as any aspect of the game goes. Collision detection and physics, on road feel, graphics, etc...all significantly better in DR.
That said, WRC might be more fun! It's much less technical and you can just fly around curves and enjoy yourself while still getting a dose of realism. DR is much more ass puckering, as you have to pay attention every second of the rally to be successful. You just can't take any breaks. They definitely can co-exist in my collection, especially if more people start picking up WRC and we can start having some competitions.

I'm getting DIRT Rally and probably keeping WRC 5 for just the reasons you stated. One is pure sim, the other sim-cade. There is room for both in my driving collection. It's the same reason I keep Project Cars and Forza 6. PCars is more of a sim, while Forza 6 is sim-cade. I like both.

Thanks for this heads up. Combined with an extra 50% on trade in's at Gamestop, I got it new for $4.00. Will be here Wednesday or Thursday. Very excited to get my hands on the full game.
Went to Gamestop as it's the last day of the sale (I think) and they had one copy left and a used copy. Lady said I'll grab you the last new one...I said it's already opened, so why wouldn't I just buy the used one? LOL...idiots. So got it for 28 instead of 30. Whoopee?
I forgot how fun rally games can be, haven't had to manage speed vs. precision like this in a long time. Even with damage turned down a level, I end up stuck in 3rd gear at the end of a stage too often

The damage model is quite good and punishing in WRC 5, especially for a sim-cade title. Just another fun aspect you need to manage well to succeed!

I finally had a chance to start my career. I am LOVING this game. It is just sim enough to make it a challenge, yet not sim enough to make it a chore or too time consuming. For example, on one stage of the Monte rally I lost my brakes. I limped my way to the end using the hand brake. With damage turned up you really have to drive precisely and think about car conservation. It sucks to drive a great stage and then have to take a time penalty for repairs because I was too rough on the car. So fun!!! I can't wait to get to the actual WRC cars. Absolutely loved the Portugal rally. This game is so so underrated!!! I would have paid full price for it.

No, I don't believe there are any Rally Cross type game modes. Below is a link to the game features, and I don't remember seeing any rally cross/head to head type racing modes:

I still play that on my 360 every so often.
WR5 isn't...but DirT Rally certainly could be in the conversation. Too arcade-ish in WR5...definitely a good game, but doesn't quite hit the realism factor that CM hit back in the day.

I'll beg to differ. WRC 5 has a more realistic damage and equipment conservation model than CMR 2005. Plus a lot of the CMR games were plagued by "center spike" physics in which the car seemed to rotate on some invisible axis through the center of the car.
I think WRC 5 and CMR 2005 are in the same conversation. I haven't played DIRT Rally, but I imagine its realism will be more in tune with Richard Burns Rally, still the best rally sim I've ever played. It's beautiful and brutal in its unrelenting realism.

Played the demo last night. I think I'll buy it once the price drops.

You may want to wait until DIRT Rally is released in early April unless you find a WRC 5 price drop pronto. WRC 5 is a very fun sim-cade rally game. But there's every indication DIRT Rally will be the most uncompromising, realistic, ass-puckering rally sim ever on a North American console.
The incredible Richard Burns Rally only was released on these shores for PC. Steal, download or find a copy of that game if you're a PC sim racer. The modding community for RBR still is incredibly robust even though the game was released 13 years ago. RBR is beyond sublime. Still is my favorite PC racing sim of all time, even including the mighty iRacing.

My 100% bad. For some reason I had RB Rally in my mind when I was responding. You're right.
