Maybe NFL is just more greedier than the NBA.
The NFL has done this for years. It's not a recent phenomenon. Take it from someone who works in the sports business: College and professional sports are for-profit enterprises, and all revenue opportunities should be explored and converted if appropriate.

For example, the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB are nuts to not sell shirt sponsors like professional soccer leagues. It's coming, sooner than you think. And the shirt sponsors don't diminish my enjoyment of watching soccer one bit.

I wonder though if as many people would buy those $90 NBA jerseys if they had a corporate logo on them.

I know they do in Europe for soccer jerseys but they seem to have way more conspicuous advertising all over.

Certainly they sold the naming rights to the stadia.

I work with international sports entities, and sports marketing and sponsorship is more sophisticated and developed in the USA than in Europe.

:). Sad thing is the Sixers have a protected 1st rounder from LA in this year's draft. They just hurt their chances at getting it. Lol. Okafor's first win since the NCAA title game.

Still...a win is a win!

Doesn't Hinkie have picks to trade to ensure the top spot? Assets? :)

Have Hinkie invite another GM out to dinner, get him sh*t drunk and trade him Embiid.

Watched Sixers Knicks last night and Porzingas is impressive. He is the smoothest super big guy I think I've ever seen. He doesn't move like a 7'3" guy. His movements make him look like a guy that is 6'8". Yeah he is skinny but he is still a load. He will put on some mass and become even more imposing. Also, he doesn't look, by any stretch, overwhelmed by the spotlight of playing in NY. Hell, he looks like he's been in the league for years...at least in that manner. If I were a Knicks fan I would be excited. I would also try and move Carmelo ASAP. Melo is still Melo which is good and bad. They aren't going deep with him so may as well get on with the new era.

Agree. I'm sold on KP after initial skepticism. As you said, he moves and shoots as well as any super-big (7-foot or larger) in the league. He still needs to curb the silly fouls, but that will come with time and experience.

I don't think the Knicks will deal Melo. He's their only marquee superstar for now, and all the Knicks' management needed to do is look at the Sixers' bench last night and realize you're going nowhere in the NBA without at least one elite player on which to hang your hat. 'Melo still is a lethal scorer.

I listened to a podcast yesterday with Zach Lowe of ESPN and his guest, Chris Herring, who covers the Knicks for the Wall Street Journal. Don't laugh -- Herring is really sharp even though the Journal isn't known for its sports coverage. Herring claims the Knicks are trying to build around Melo at the 4 and Porzingis at the 5, hopefully complimenting them with a few good guards.

Herring also made a good point about the dimension in Melo's game. He's a totally different player with USA Basketball, whipping passes around the perimeter and not always going isolation, because he's not the best player on the team. He can be a very unselfish, complimentary player when he's not the alpha dog.

Melo still has that role with the Knicks. But the surprising emergence of Porzingis lightens the load on Melo to score and do everything for the Knicks, which might cause him to add dimension to his NBA game like he does in FIBA competition for the United States. Porzingis has been full of praise for 'Melo, treating him respectfully like a big brother. So I don't think Melo is jealous of KP's emergence or success, especially since it has made the Knicks a better team than expected.

Sorry, Bill: The Sixers are a f*cking trainwreck once again, with very little light at the end of the tunnel. I feel bad for Brown. I think he's a good coach and a good dude. He deserves combat pay for working with this franchise for three seasons.

Like PK said, I don't see the Knicks moving Melo. In fact I think Melo has a positive effect on the development of KP. He takes the pressure and spotlight off of him as well as the possibility of luring a top FA next year. It's no longer just Melo front running the Knicks but an imposing Big. So you have potentially two superstars if KP continues his development throughout this year. And Phil is realizing what he got in the draft because he's working with KP and his game.

KP has added to the Heat as teams I now follow and cheer on. I haven't been this excited watching the Knicks play as when Ewing got drafted. And Ewing still looks like Billy Ocean's twin brother.

If anyone was dumb enough to offer something other than salary relief to the Knicks they would move Melo in a hot second. With KPs emergence as the great white hope in NY they have their star to get people to come watch a bad basketball team. You're still never going to win anything of importance w Melo as your #1 so might as well move him for a pick or two to speed up the rebuild process around KP.

Melo is way more valuable as a trade piece than a leader and the sooner the Knicks realize that the better off they'd be.

That said I completely agree that Melo is a great complimentary player on USA basketball. So he needs to be a 3rd option on whatever team he is on not a first before he really is effective in a winning way.

I totally agree with the USA Basketball analogy. I heard nothing but great things about Carmelo when he was on team USA. There is no doubt he has the skills to be an awesome team player....will he do that though? I've seen little evidence of that for extended periods of time. Maybe this time will be different.

As far as the Sixers...you mean Jakar Sampson, Hollis Thompson and TJ McConnell didn't impress you last night? Not that it matters but it was the second of a back to back and it was on the road. It was obvious the Sixers had little juice even in the first quarter. Wroten and Marsall, who obviously are not game changers, will be back in a week or so. At least they are established NBA players. Yeah, I know I'm grasping but its all I got!

As far as the draft in June...Simmons is going to be a game changer. He's a beast. I'd LOOOOOVE to see him in the new Sixers uni next year. Other than him - Kris Dunn (PG Providence) might be just what the Sixers need.

The Heat rolled the Cavs last night but AGAIN they beat a team without their star player. Bron Bron was a scratch for the game. The NBA really needs a rethink on these back to back games (and yes there are fewer this year) because it hurts the fans who wants to see a star player in the game but can't play because their tank is on empty. Supposedly the Cavs showed up in S. Florida at 4:40am.

The Wizards play the Heat on Monday and will be coming off a back to back. It's good for the Heat as they currently have the best record in the East but I don't think they'd be 12-6 if it weren't for all these back to backs, front loaded home schedule and key players missing every time they play an elite team.

The Heat lost last night to Wizards who went small ball and Coach Spo sat Hassan Whiteside for the 4th Qtr while the Wizards were driving into the paint. They could've used Whiteside to counter that. I still can't see why small ball is not only popular but effective unless you have a team like GS with lethal 3 pt wing shooters?

Two Heat trade rumors. Whiteside and players for either DMC or Howard. DMC is my preferred choice because he is a scoring threat anywhere on the floor. Small ball is putting pressure on the 5 spot.

Cousins is a time bomb in the locker room. Will ruin the chemistry of any team.

Are the Heat going to pay Wade big after this season?

He's going to be almost 35 a year from now, when the 2016 season starts.

Still a very effective scorer but nothing like the terror he used to be before LBJ and Bosh arrived.

Maybe they give him a "thanks for the memories" deal like the one that the Lakers gave Kobe for these last two years.

According to the Heat brass, D-Wade will wear one uniform. So far he's been durable and for the most part back to his 2006 playing days. From what I've read in the South Florida papers is that the Heat will offer him a multi year deal to offset his cap hit and limited role. The idea is to use him like SA uses Tim Duncan.
