NFL 2015-16 season

Re: NFL 2015-16 season
Oof, that Bears loss hurt. Denver is a much better team, and it's a testament to Fox's coaching and his assistants that the Bears were even in this game. But they had so many opportunities to get a victory and just blew it. The decision to not kick a FG against a tough Denver D when the Bears needed four yards is baffling (especially with how much time was left). And whether it was a planned call or a Cutler audible, no Bears game should ever come down to a running play out of the shotgun again.
Still, considering the Bears faced the best D in the league without their two best offensive skill players, they did okay. There's at least a foundation to build on, which is more than I expected this season.

Dolphins need a top to bottom scrubbing of Mgmt. No quality/proven Head Coach will deal with Aponte and Tannenbaum running/ruining the team.

Re: NFL 2015-16 season
The Bears already surpassed what I predicted which was 3 wins but the fact is they have a strong possibility of going 0-6 in their own division means there is a long way to go. In fact besides the 2 home games against the 49ers and Redskins I'm not sure they have another winnable game on the schedule.Brando70 wrote:Still, considering the Bears faced the best D in the league without their two best offensive skill players, they did okay. While NFL teams can turn around in a season I expect it to be another 2 years at least until they are even sniffing the post season.

Random thoughts...
Man the officiating is especially terrible this year. I mean really bad.
Jay Cutler pulled a Shane Falco on the 2 point conversion attempt against the Broncos apparently.
Chip Kelly still thinks he is the smartest guy in the room.
Could we get 2 playoff teams with .500 records or less?

Refs were horrible last night for sure. Just watching the NFL has become a chore for me. At times, I just don't really feel like watching much of it anymore.

It was a package play that worked for 2 in the Rams game. Grasu missed the line call and pass blocked, letting his man just blow up the play. Matt Bowen spoke to the OL coach and he broke the play down on his BR podcast.Danimal wrote:Random thoughts...

The bigger issue was Fox not kicking the FG when they were on the goal line earlier. He's done a fantastic job this season with one of the least talented teams in the league, but he's always had a sketchy rep as a game manager. He needs a Don Zimmer-like bench coach or something.

ESPN diagrammed that failed 2-point attempt.
But what's odd is that didn't they score the TD on the same or very similar play just a couple of plays before?
Anyways, Gase was getting good reviews for the improvement in Cutler's play this season but maybe he or whoever calls the plays went to the well once too much.

Re: NFL 2015-16 season
It was an outgrowth of the growth of package plays in the league, I think. These offenses are predicated on the offense making reads and adapting. I see a lot of scenarios, especially end of game, where "switching off" the options would probably make more sense, but you can't really do that.
There was a play in the outstanding Bengals/Cards SNF game that was a perfect example. The Bengals had that 3rd and 2 with about a minute to play. They could have run or thrown a short pass, converted, run the clock and won the game with a FG. Instead the Cards sold out with a blitz, leaving AJ Green 1-on-1 on the outside. That's where the ball "has" to go, then. Slightly inaccurate throw, Green is out of bounds and the Cards got the ball back with plenty of time to spare.
It's tempting to say the players or coaches are stupid for not managing these situations better, but that ignores the fact that these options are baked into the offenses to such a degree that they're impossible to avoid. Part of what makes these offenses so effective is drilling it into the entire offense that every play has ITTT logic that decides everyone's responsibilities. It's a curious wrinkle, for sure.

That is so messed up...

Re: NFL 2015-16 season
first bears games I've watched in a while.
Hard to beat the Pack and THE REFS.
Terrible calls all against the Bears. Are any of these refs held accountable? I mean it's not like it's just a recent thing, it's going on for decades now.
What does the NFL do now, just send an apology to the team on Monday. What a crock. How about some kind of grade system. If the particular ref keeps screwing up, suspend him or get rid of him.
Unimaginable how a Billon dollar industry like the NFL is SOOOOOOOOOO CHHHEEEAAAAPPPP to hire full time NFL refs. Can't fully blame Goodell since it's been a long time problem but he should do something about it, it's long long overdue.

A larger mystery than the result is why on earth the Packers have employed Davante Adams for 11 weeks. That guy is flaming garbage. Can't catch, won't block, can't run a route. A league-average WR in his place and they could have avoided both this result and the Lions result.

Lacey looking fat.
Rodgers looking human.
Cutler not forcing ball.
Bear d improving every week.
Fox appears to have been the right hire.

Nice drive, only for Tannehill to throw a pick on 3rd down in FG territory.

31-7 loss while being yet another step backwards they did show nothing. Talk about quitting. They gave up on season after that Viking loss.
Re: NFL 2015-16 season
Don't look now but you have competition. The Dolphins are getting their asses kicked again by the Jests 38-14 and are making Ryan Fitz look like Tom Brady.XXXIV wrote:
