Re: NHL 16
I purchased the digital version last night. No doubt in my mind that I'll be able to get it to play a good game of hockey. Looking forward to tomorrow night.

I've been busy with family in town this weekend, but still have 5 hours or so on my preview. I'll play tonight if we have enough numbers.

Re: NHL 16
Like Sportdan, I'm enjoying this game more in single player the more I play it. I switched to auto aim, and this is a different, far better game than NHL 15. I played as my Oilers last night and beat St. Louis, 7-2. I NEVER scored seven goals in any game of NHL 15.
I'm seeing fewer one-timers from the slot by the CPU from my initial sample size, and my CPU defenders are doing a better job breaking up passes in my zone. But the CPU still moves the puck around its offensive zone faster than is realistic.
Still, NHL 16 is an improved single-player experience. I'll look for it for $25-30 on Black Friday. Otherwise, I'll wait for it to drop in the EA Access Vault next spring. Too busy with FIFA 16, Madden 16 and Forza 6 this fall.

Paul that is good to hear. So Auto aim is the difference maker? I know Mizzourah swears by it as well. I think i've always used manual aim. I always figured with auto aim, every shot would be on net with nothing missing high or wide.

I thought the same, Tim. But I missed plenty of shots. Felt very realistic.tjung0831 wrote:Paul that is good to hear. So Auto aim is the difference maker? I know Mizzourah swears by it as well. Yeah, auto-aim just reflects the aim and accuracy and of a given player. Plenty of misses.

Re: NHL 16
Supposedly a new tuner was released.. going to check it out now.
- Reduce shot accuracy a bit on pro difficulty
- Increase AI reaction times and interception chances on rookie to make them a bit better
- Coaching feedback tuning to make it easier to clear some tasks that were too difficult before.
- Reduce the max speed that players can pickup shots/slap passes. This was feedback from the Beta that wasn't fully tuned before.
- Increase chance of AI penalties in Offline modes.
- Tuning around offside awareness for AI players
- Enable line change HUD in pregame situations (intro NIS and faceoff) so that you can change strategies before puck drop

What period lengths are everyone using? I"m trying 10, and aside from getting my ass kicked, i'm also giving up 50 or more shots a game......

Re: NHL 16
I use 8 minute periods.
Only 2 penalties in each game post tuner. Played first one on SS vs Minnesota and lost 6-3, was outshot 46-22. Second game, same teams on AS, I won 3-2 and outshot Minnesota 43-31.
Now I am showing default speed as 3 and I can turn it down to 2 without stuttering framerate... some weird stuff going on.

One note for those that don't have EA Access.. I had to act like I was playing an online vs game to get the tuner to install.

Game is much better, seeing lots of things I didn't see in NHL15. Looks better and plays better, can't ask for much more than that.

All that's missing is the organ version of Cee Lo Green's "F*ck You" after opponent goals. I think the graphic and animations have improved significantly over 15, but the overall presentation has improved even more.

Re: NHL 16
Holy heck! What was up with the 1 game I managed to join? first my guy couldn't move THEN when I did it was laggy and then the choppiness/speed up was absurd. Finally had to drop. Is that the norm? Was it just me?
Re: NHL 16
I decided to play some single player HUT seasons to learn the foibles of 16, and I'm actually having a decent time.
My team is filled with average NHLers (1st line, Hartnell-Ribiero-Parenteau), but so far I'm 8-1 against NHL teams on the hardest HUT season mode. Most of the games are all-star, some are superstar. I actually find more space offensively and more odd man rushes on superstar.
I've been scoring a bunch of goals. Scored 9 on WSH, but had a tight OT game against WPG next, 3-2. 3-on-3 OT was pretty cool!
Some stray observations:
-I haven't quite figured it out yet, but the the CPU defenders are pretty amazing at breaking up my passes to the slot for one-timers. On the other hand, my AI seems braindead against the same play. You've got to be careful on D against the computer to take that play away or else it gets frustrating seeing the CPU scored 5 goals on 9 shots.
-"Loading up" your wrister is essential. Stop skating, hold the R-stick to the side, then even pull it back a little, and shoot. You have a much better chance of scoring when doing this (or generating rebounds), but you need a lot of time and space or else you get checked/blocked.
-Glove side high, stick-side low/medium. I've been trying auto-aim for the first time ever, and those seems to be the hot spots.

Re: NHL 16
Can any of you tell me every defensive control in the game and how it is mapped for PS4 (or XB1)? EA's hockey games seem to always be notoriously thin on the defensive side of the puck. Curious how the D control is and what all we have at our disposal and if it is done well. On the verge of getting game but curious on this.
I'm sure there is body checks, poke check, etc but do you have free movement to sweep your stick? Are there contextual stick lifts ala 2K10/11 and tie ups in front of the net? I'm sure you can block a shot but can you also lay your stick down on the ice? Is there a good amount of board pinning and board scrums? A lot of this is fundamental and plus coming from all the years of 2K I am just used to those tools.
Thanks, fellas!

You can sweep, you can stick lift, but I don't know what you mean by "contextual" as far as how it pertains to 2K specifically. You will attempt the stick lift and it changes based on your position/angle, but it's a slashing penalty machine. You can grab along the boards and create scrums, absolutely. The only thing that 15 had a problem with was clearing guys in front of the net. I haven't played enough of 16 to know, but they talked about how you could play more defensively in front of the net this year. I have had a lot more success knocking guys out of lanes and preventing one timers by sticking to an offensive player in front, but there isn't a button like "Press A to tie up" or anything that I know of.
Re: NHL 16
Thanks, T. Question, while holding r1 or rb, do you have a full range of motion when sweeping the stick? Thanks for the info.
Re: NHL 16
You have to move your RS left and right and viceversa. Careful you don't do it too close to a player as you end up tripping the guy instead.hrudey32 wrote:Thanks, T. Question, while holding r1 or rb, do you have a full range of motion when sweeping the stick? Thanks for the info.
