College football hasn't even started. Nfl training camp looks miles away... Why the rush?

To beat Madden out of the door, at $19.99 to boot, and steal some sales.

Take care,

The early release date has caused me to cancel my NCAA preorder and just wait for ESPN. I'm not a diehard college fan, so I think ESPN will handle my football jones for this year.

Anyways, if it sucks, I'll just look at it as a $20 appetizer before Madden comes out.

I think this is another SUPERB move by Take Two in their efforts to get ESPN the widest audience possible. They've basically admitted in interviews that the goal is to get the exposure level as high as possible prior to the launch of the new consoles. In fact, I suspect they already have the game runnning on Xbox 2 development kits (Apple G5 systems) and have some really revolutionay things planned.

Coming out early, despite the fact that people aren't 'thinking' football yet is a great idea. There tends to be a 'lull' between the last of the baseball games release and the NFL Games, so their should be an audience ready to grab the first A quality title out the door. $19.99 competing head to head with NCAA rather than Madden is a really good idea.
