J Cauthen - when you get back from vacation can you help me with this :
is there anyway to make TGC play more casual? More like last gen's 360 Tiger/Masters golf games? I tried a bunch of stuff when it came out but it was still too hard.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Sure, I'll be online at times while I'm there. The game defaults to is most casual settings, to my recollection. I would suggest turning depth of field to OFF and Vsync OFF for starters. DOF off gives you about an 8 to 10 percent frame boost and I find I get frame skipping, on occasion, with Vsync on... it's like on the console versions, when the game can't support 30 FPS, it drops or skips frames. I'll see if I can help you with specifics later on, but just remember, you have to loft just about every approach shot a few degrees because the greens are so unreceptive to approach shots. It's hard to miss an approach short in this game. Wind will always affect your shot more than you think it should, and putts will always break more than your senses see.

Fellas. I've read good and bad about this game. I've got a PS4.. Does it play well? Frame Rate issues drive me crazy.. How bad is it in this game?

It's fine on the PS4...pretty bad on the XB1. It's fine on some courses but terrible on others.FifaInspected wrote:Fellas. I've read good and bad about this game. I've got a PS4.. Does it play well? Frame Rate issues drive me crazy.. How bad is it in this game?
And here comes Divot to say I don't know what I'm talking about owning both versions!

Great thank you. I will try these first.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
PS4 is just fine. It is easy as hell from tee to green. The game only becomes somewhat challenging on the greens when pins are located on ridiculous slopes. Putting engine to this day has an issue where you have executed a straight putt according to the swing feedback GUI, but the ball comes off the putter head left or right randomly therefore killing your chance to make the putt. The developer refuses to address this nor the option to have sliders to make the swing more challenging from tee to green. They are relying on course creators to trick up courses to make the game artificially "more challenging" which is turning many hardcore simulation users to Perfect Golf which is PC only at this point and in Early Access on Stem still.FifaInspected wrote:Fellas. TGC iis a nice game, but after 500+ rounds I need a break from it. Great developer support as well.
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
It's the best golf game on consoles but very hard. If you're a golf nut and love hardcore sports games, you'll love it. The framerate thing is no big deal. I really don't even notice. it's not like it stutters every second when you play. in my experience it's very rare. the best thing is it's got hundreds of courses and a course designer so there is no limit.FifaInspected wrote:Fellas. One note you should be aware of : on the digital version, it makes the PS4 VERY HOT. I mean hot like you can probably cook eggs on it. Many people have asked if this is going to break the PS4, but I don't think any has reported the game breaking any systems. But I did see that they now also sell the game on disc, at least at Target. So maybe running on disc may alleviate the system getting really hot.
Maybe DB will know the answer to that?
Game drive me nuts because I like Casual Golf and I completely suck at it. But J Cauthen put some tips to make the game easier for casual golf gamers a few posts above so I will go ahead and try that.

Still shooting a few over par after the recent PS4 patch. I'm cool with that.
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
This is a know issue, you'll either have to use the 32 bit version of the game (selectable in the Steam options) or drop back to the Geforce Drivers from April (I believe it was anyway). I'm still using them and they work great with the last two updates on the PC. I realize I'm missing some benefits from the latest Geforce driver rev though, especially where Perfect Golf and Project CARS is concerned.Danimal wrote:Tried to play a round today post patch and the game crashes on the PC when I hit continue on the main screen.

Thanks JC.
I still feel disconnected from any type of group, nor do I understand the whole tournament thing. I'll just play single player rounds on here for now.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I just picked this up for the PS4. In the very limited time I really like the gameplay. It's going to be a real challenge.
That being said. I was playing with my son. We were using 2 controllers and had a bit of an issue. I could swing on my controller but he needed to select my club and do my aiming on his controller. The situation was the same with his controller. Have any of you experienced this? Is this a setting of some kind?

Downloaded the patch on the Xbone and tried season mode once again and it still doesn't work. Finished the 3rd event in the first season at Black Brook twice and both times it ends with the camera panning unable to advance. Frustrating.

Are we sure Project Cars and TGC aren't developed by the same firm?DivotMaker wrote:According to Anthony Kyne, they can't reproduce this.....vader29 wrote:Downloaded the patch on the Xbone and tried season mode once again and it still doesn't work. Fellas. In watching youtube videos about this game I see people bringing up a view with a red trajectory arch. What button does that as I can't get that to pull up regardless of what buttons I press.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Go into Settings/Display and the third item down (at least on the PC version) is "Follow Cam", turn it OFF. You can still go into Follow Cam mode at your discretion by hitting the "A" button on the XBox/PC controller to see the shot finish. I usually do this about 70 to 80% of the ball's travel.
Eventually, they're going to have a reverse angle landing camera that can be switched to on demand, along with some more options that haven't been disclosed. After playing Perfect Golf, and experiencing its almost ready for prime time reverse angle landing camera, I'm looking forward to it.
Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
Here's some good news for PS4 version owners of TGC, especially those who have had trouble getting 100% power on your swings since the last update. A fix is on the way and here are the details:
http://thegolfclubgame.com/2015/07/30/s ... quest-100/
"So the swing “fix” has been out for a week now and the opinions are as strong now as they were last week. There have been a few very vocal pro and anti-swing mechanic users on the forums as well as quite a few people jumping from the Anti to the Pro camp. No one as yet has jumped from the Pro camp into the Anti camp. Which does indicate to me we’re on the right track.
The being said a big concern of mine is the differences on the platforms. We’ve done quite a bit of digging this week, as the code from our end is the same on each platform. What we’ve found is that the game is reading 300+ input points on PS4 per frame, the Xbox One has 90 and PC was 60 (for PS3 controllers) and 100+ (for Xbox 360). Those figures prove why we’re seeing different needed swing tempos on different machines.
My current feeling is that we reduce the PS4 to match the others and make sure that input is equal on all platforms. This should continue to give us the desired granular swing as well as the risk reward around the 100% shots but also make it a little easier to hit 100% with less rapid swings. That I’m hoping will calm the fires for a while
Outside of the swing issue, there’s semi good news on the NVidia front. The new drivers released yesterday have improved the stability a little and NVidia have upgraded us to a higher level of support to help try and track down the problem. So I’m hoping they’ll get to the bottom of this soon!"
I've experienced just a little bit more trouble hitting 100% since that update, maybe two to three times per round. It did require a more aggressive swing that I wanted execute with my controller, but 100% was achievable. I think the game will be back to allowing a more fluid swing with this update, although not as forgiving nor as soft as it was before. I'm liking the new swing on the PC and XB1 versions though, short of the unlofted 15 to 35 yard pitch shot, where it's still inexplicably touchy

I bought this a few weeks ago and was not a fan of the post update swing. That being said, I find this game really enjoyable. Designing new courses with the editor is also a big time suck but really fun as well.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I find the new swing to need a bit too much pause on the backswing. Which I think they acknowledge and may tweak.
And to think about it in "real terms"..... this game is simulating you and I heading out to a course, not the pros. I'm sure i'm not one of the best golfers on this site, but I know in real life I can hit 10 drives in a row and have them all be different distances...... (and directions, but that's not what this discussion is about!)
I like the variablity, unless i'm hitting over (and then into) water lol.

The current PS4 is hyper sensitive, IMO. If I use my DS4 controller with it and try to swing with my preferred thumbstick (left) the highest swing percentage I was able to achieve was 97%. When I use my XBox 360 controller to swing on the PS4 version (via my Titan One controller adapter), it get 100% over 95% of the time, like I had prior to the patch.Gangrel wrote:I find the new swing to need a bit too much pause on the backswing. There's a much wider range of variance right now on the PS4 platform, whereas it's pretty much the same, at least when 100% power is desired on the XB1 and PC versions. I think HB Studios is making the right move in trying to get the PS4 swing performance more in line with the other two. I hope they get the same feel across all three platforms like they did prior to the last update.

Re: HB Studios Next-Gen golf game: The Golf Club
I have found my new favorite course in TGC: Pawnee Reserve Golf & Country Club (Championship).
Hard but fair. Plays and looks like a real, quality course. Not one of these ridiculous circus courses with keyhole fairway landing zones and greens that look like a topo map in the Rockies.
Shot a 74 (+2) gross, 72 (E) handicap there.
GREAT course with pretty scenery. Give it a go!

Oh yeah, that one has been on my favorites list from day one... it's a totally believable landscape and as you say, a tough but fair golf course.pk500 wrote:I have found my new favorite course in TGC: Pawnee Reserve Golf & Country Club (Championship).
Let me recommend a couple other courses that I've discovered lately. One is called Freshwater Golf Club, Newfoundland, Canada. It's an incredibly detailed course that sets its own look... it's hard to tell what theme you're looking at. It's not what you'd call a PGA Championship golf course type layout, more of a touristy type course that shows off the environment, with a reasonable golf challenge. It runs incredibly smoothly on the XB1, even with the heavy planting... I'm still shocked at how good this course looks when I play it.
Secondly, check out Kettler @ the highlands. As the name suggests, it's a highlands theme course and it's one of the best. The planting is phenomenal and the course layout is genius. Wendy Airey is the designer of this course, and really, anything she designs is worth your time. I've got a half dozen of her courses on my favorites.
