One other question which usually would seem like a no-brainer but this is EA so you never know...

Can you play the game with a buddy in person? Like a 2 player mode locally?
Yeah, you can. I played a quick round (with a CAG or Pro) and there are options to "Add Player" for 3 others. I would still love to know about Tempo and how to fix my underhitting/slow issue if anybody knows anything more than "just hit faster".

Can we play online during this trial with friends? Anyone want to try a round tonight?

I don't know what to tell you. I seem to get mostly over swings with fast tempo, usually 1-2%. I also see perfect tempo swings as well. I tend to have a little slower back swing I think and faster down swing. Always seem to be over swinging though. I am also using the newest controller with the 3.5 jack but it in.

I was routinely hitting drives 330-345 with Rory. My created guy was hitting 275-290 depending on wind, etc. I did choose power under abilities.

I will try depending on what the wife has planned.

Yeah with Rory I can crush it easily 330 or more. But I still get slow. So you use a slower backswing? That's how I started, since my real golf swing is a bit of a slow/controlled backswing...but I kept getting slow, so I thought I had to speed it up to adjust the tempo.

I've tried to absolutely rip the stick through the front of the controller, as fast as I can, and still have slow. I have no idea, but it's frustrating.

As Pk said there is no feel to putting it's just figuring out a mathematical equation and pulling the stick. Even if they frequently update the game, I don't see how they can fix the core of how this works. I'm still undecided whether it's worth keeping the game with this issue.
Ignore the green circle and watch your Golfer whether putting or full shots....that is what made the game less mechanical for me. YMMV.

Maybe I am missing something. Once I pick my aiming spot and the distance I want to hit it, the stick has no effect on power right? that is the way it seems to me.

Example I pick a 10 foot putt, if I just barely move that stick it is going 10 feet right? In other words i can't set my distance for 25 feet on a flat putt but hit it 10 feet because of how I used the stick.

If i can that I am really missing something in the options.

I have blown a number of putts past the hole as well as left a number short while trying to "watch the green ball fill up". Since I started ignoring it, I set my distance, then watch my Golfers motion and I am having a more fulfilling experience.

I have as well but that has to do with green speed and contour of the green no? I was merely asking if none of those were in effect. It was a flat 25 foot putt, there seems to be no correlation to the pull back on the stick. I'm not ure if you're disagreeing with me or merely suggesting a way to make it feel less mechanical which is appreciated.

I need more time with the game (10 hours is almost up already I think for me) to be able to answer this correctly. I don't like downward spirals (arguments), so I truly am trying to answer you and give you my personal feelings as to what I think is going on. I truly think you can hit the ball alot further than the distance you have dialed in, but I have not had a chance to test this theory since I am working on building my character in CM.

There are four. I was watching someone stream the Battlefield 4 course, and the commentary was actually really funny.

Do you know if the stat upgrades are arbitrary, or are they performance-based? I couldn't tell after each round if my striking was going up because I did something, or if I sunk long putts, or if it's just randomized? Have you seen a pattern yet?

I think they are based on a) performance on the course and b) the kind of golfer you chose to be (Power/Finesse, etc....)

I'm sorry I didn't mean to make it sound like I wanted to argue with you. I just thought maybe I was unaware of something. I'm not even sure how to test it honestly. Last night I held the stick back for a long time and tried to blow a putt past the hole when I set the distance 2 feet short but that didn't happen so I just assumed the stick played no role in distance.

From what I've seen, Danimal, the stick affects over/underhitting your range marker. If you go into the red and your marker is set at 10 feet, you could hit it 12 feet. But you're not going to crush it 35 feet.

It's simplistic, but I've under/over hit putts, only it's not a drastic range. Most of the time it's "if it's in the green you're good".

I don't think I've ever seen the circle go red. odd.

You have to try really hard to screw it up that badly. I did it as a test. It definitely went from green to orange and 'overhit' that way.

Does online play with your created golfer "build him up"? Or is it just offline play that does?

Not 100% sure....it has been a whirlwind and trying to remember everything with this old 286/4MB hard drive in my head....I want to say I did not get XP last night for playing the weekly Online tournament, but honestly it's a blur right now....

Yea, the only round I've played so far with my created pro was the weekly online. And I didn't think I saw any kind of progression.

Kind of s bummer if so, since I typically just play the online portion like country clubs if it is ever added.

It will be an easy thing to check, because you can play just one hole and see if there's any XP awarded for birdie/hole complete/long putt, etc.

I don't remember seeing any when I played a few holes in a play now event, either.

You guys that are saying you are playing Tour mode - are you just playing the default tour mode or are you going into custom settings turning difficulty to Hard, Lies to advanced, Wind Gusts ON, etc. etc.? I dont think some realize there are a number of settings in custom that make the default Tour mode more difficult. Default Tour mode is set to EASY. Some people over at OS were complaining about how 'easy' the game was and they hadn't changed any of those settings.
