Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
The opening round of the 2015 MotoGP season was off the charts. I won't even spoil it for you, just watch it. No super aero stuff or DRS needed here. Just RAW racing at it's finest.

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
Fell asleep around the 20th lap trying to watch after dragons last night.... I am glad I waited to watch the tape of the race today.pk500 wrote:Now that's more like it. Gentlemen, we have a race this season!
I hope its not just a blip and it lasts all season.

No doubt. The best race of an entertaining weekend of motorsports, by far.Rodster wrote:The opening round of the 2015 MotoGP season was off the charts. I won't even spoil it for you, just watch it. No super aero stuff or DRS needed here. Just RAW racing at it's finest.
WHAT. A. RACE. As my son said at the finish, "Dad, are they racing next weekend?" That's the highest compliment that can be paid to ANY series.

Surely Rossi has got to be considered the best ever. Unbelievable what he can still do at 36 and what a draw he is for the sport. What a character, too.

Rossi and Agostini stand alone. I refuse to put Rossi ahead of Ago - yet! Ago won more races and championships in more classes.Rodster wrote:Surely Rossi has got to be considered the best ever. Unbelievable what he can still do at 36 and what a draw he is for the sport. What a character, too.

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
Good race as expected. Kimi almost had Hammy with a brake wire problem on the last lap, closed it to within 3.5 secs but ran out of laps. Finger boy had his front wing clipped and dropped him out of the podium. Nico is cracking under the pressure. He should just stay quiet and drive. He gave his position away to Kimi on the last lap.

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
Guess we have different definitions of a good race. Hamilton controlled that event from start to finish and is looking like he'll canter to another title.
The rest of the race featured decent jousts between Kimi and Rosberg and Vettel and Bottas amid extended bouts of turgid tedium.

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
There was that moment when Rosberg and Vettel were up on Hamilton after a pit stop but that did not last long.
Kimi was back today and I think he and seb had the two fastest laps so maybe we will get some races in europe.
Hamilton will run away with this title unless something drastic happens?

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
MotoGP once again delivered the best race of the weekend, and the rest weren't even close. I won't serve a warm dish of spoilers for those who recorded the race, but it was fantastic.
F1 right now is the third most-entertaining series among the four major global motorsport series. MotoGP and the WEC put on a far more interesting and entertaining show. Hell, WRC hasn't been that exciting with the Sebastien (Loeb, Ogier) axis of dominance the last decade, but I find myself almost as entertained watching rally as F1 these days.

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
One of the main reasons why MotoGP produces exciting races is because of the MINIMAL aero on all the bikes. So it's mostly down to HP of the engines and skill of the riders.

Very true. Plus the vehicles are so much smaller than cars, so they can use lines and find passing places that cars cannot.Rodster wrote:One of the main reasons why MotoGP produces exciting races is because of the MINIMAL aero on all the bikes. Yeah, and hopefully you won't hear a word of protest. MotoGP is a lot looser than the self-important pricks filling the F1 paddock.Rodster wrote:I had a LOL moment when Rossi decides to go Lewis Hamilton on the podium girl.

Sad day with the passing of NASCAR TV reporter Steve Byrnes. A talented pro and a class act. No one EVER had a bad word to say about Steve -- a rarity in auto racing.

If the rumors are correct, it appears Valtteri Bottas will be partnering Vettel in 2017. Good move by Ferrari.

Whats the deal with Kimi?Rodster wrote:If the rumors are correct, it appears Valtteri Bottas will be partnering Vettel in 2017. Good move by Ferrari.
Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
Both drivers have team options in 2016. Ferrari will probably resign Kimi for next year if he keeps performing and then replace him with Bottas. Both are Finnish drivers and Bottas has the potential to be even better than Vettel.
Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
New color livery for Mclaren in Spain. You would think they might consider bringing back the iconic red and white McLaren from the 80's to celebrate their partnership with Honda?

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
What's to celebrate? The Honda is a massive lump of lead.
Doubt these doldrums will last forever, but I think the last thing McLaren and Honda want to do now is to attract comparisons to their golden age in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
Upon what are you basing that prediction? Vettel WON a race in a Toro Rosso in his first full season, for Christ's sake. Bottas was in a better car last season and didn't win.Rodster wrote:Both are Finnish drivers and Bottas has the potential to be even better than Vettel.
Bottas is good. I think he has the potential to be better than Kimi. But better than Vettel?
Don't buy into the myth Adrian Newey's design at Red Bull made Vettel. The kid won in torrential rain at Monza in a Toro Rosso as a rookie, dominated in a Red Bull and also has won in a Ferrari. I think there's a smidge of ability there. He will be remembered as an all-time great.

Re: OT: Racing 2015 (Spoiler Alert)
Yeah I don't put Vettel on the same level as Hamilton or Alonso, not yet. He clearly had the best Adrian Newey cars and benefited massively from it. Alonso nearly one two titles in the span of four years if it weren't for a dose of bad luck and pit strategy (Abu Dubai) in an inferior car.
That Bahrain race was an ugly race for Vettel which Bottas held him off throughout the race. IMO, Vettel is very good but I wouldn't lump him in with the elites.
