Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
They would have probably been better off to pay Augusta than Rory. Personally, it's a non-factor for me. It's not like I have a long history of playing golf games with The Masters. I can't even tell you if it was in PGA 2000 or not, and I loved that game. Was it in Links?
But man, once they added it, you would have thought they perfected video game golf, even though TW 12 ruined what made TW 11 so good.

PGA 2000 by Sierra, the one with the course creator? You mean when practically every PGA course was available and we didn't need to pay for them. Yeah it was available, Links no they went the other route. Those days are long gone.Aristo wrote:They would have probably been better off to pay Augusta than Rory. I only posted this because someone asked about it. My video golf game days are over, I bought the Golf Club and think played maybe 10 rounds. Since building a simulator I have no desire to play video game golf when I can play on real courses and work on my actual swing. I get why people just want to sit on the couch and fire off a 55 at TPC Sawgrass I'm just not one of them.
The only thing that would bring me back is a robust multi-player tour mode, or even a single player one but that doesn't seem to be anywhere on the horizon. The league we did here a few years back was fun but lacking in a lot of stats and so forth.
I'll give this game a look a month after release and it's in the barging bin because it sure looks pretty.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
I've found the club stuff and online tourneys to be done well enough for me. It was probably what I was playing 90% of the time. I would hope that they will add depth to it, but I'm not holding my breath for that in the first game this Gen.
The career mode has always been s***, though. I would rather take a pro though a season than my created golfer. I'd rather play than spend a lot of time building up my golfer. But I do end up playing doing exactly just that whenever I do get the game.
And my point about PGA 2000 wasn't whether it had it, but that it made so little impact on me that I didn't care I do remember that the created courses were largely s***. And I hate having to not only sort through the crap, but then try to find the same courses everyone else is using. It makes score chasing, an element I love in recent golf games, almost pointless.
I loved PGA 2000, but it wasn't perfect. I do feel like starting with TW 10, they began to approach what made 2000 so good, and I feel like they eventually surpassed it. I don't need RMPGA to do much more than they were already doing. The problem is, with a new game built from scratch, they are very capable of producing a piece of crap. It just wont be the lack of The Masters or a course creator that does it in, in my opinion.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
I guess we will find out won't we. This series never sold very well to begin with. With no Tiger and no Augusta it will be interesting.

Not exactly true. In 2006 or so it was in the top 15 of all videogame sales just below Madden and FIFA. During that year it sold 3.5 to 4 million copies, IIRC. Since then, it has tanked with '14 being the worst year since Tiger's name was on the game.Danimal wrote:This series never sold very well to begin with. Fixed. Seriously looking forward to this one.
Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
No word on Country Clubs yet. But the delay to July 14th is supposedly to nail done online play and tournaments. I wonder if Country Clubs will be the feature that doesn't make it to Next Gen?

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
It does look good in screenshots, but the YouTube video is so badly compressed it's hard to get a proper look at the graphics. The green textures looked unbelievably blocky, but I know it's due to the quality of the video. I'm curious to see how this "Tour" swing difficulty works out. I was hoping there would be a tempo component that factored into the shot accuracy, but based on their description, accuracy is all about how well you track the swingpath, which won't be vertical when you're trying to shape shots. I'm curious to learn more.... but puhleeeeze EA Sports... give us a presentation alternative to ball cam!

It's been a LONG time since I had a golf game on a console, I think this may be the year I purchase.

July still feels so far away! I've been playing some Last gen TW, but I really want a game where I get to instantly post a quick clip of a great shot. It's something I've gotten used to, and now I feel like it needs to be there when playing.
Seriously, I can't wait.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
FYI - this was just posted over at OS. JC, looks like you may be getting your wish.
Handsward_EA:
Since I know this won't be a part of an official marketing release, and we already shared the base info on gameplay, I will assume I won't get in trouble for answering this question...
In our Presentation Settings for the game, you have the following camera options:
- Tee to Green Camera: Follow or Pro
- Putting Camera: Follow or Pro
The Follow cam gives you the traditional camera that follows the ball completely through its flight. The Pro camera will watch flight from the perspective of the golfer. In the case of the Tee to Green Camera on Pro, the camera will watch the ball from the golfer and then snap to the ball's landing spot right before it lands. For the putting Camera on Pro, the camera will watch the ball from the golfer the entire time, with no cut to the finish.
The settings are local and will function the way you want in any mode you go into, even online matches, as your presentation doesn't affect your gameplay so it is perfectly fine for 2 users playing each other to have different presentation cams in use.
Hope this helps and is the info you were looking for!

I know I'm in the minority, but I'd love the ability to walk the course from shot to shot. Even if it meant using a golf cart or something.
Rounds would take too long to play for most people, but I'd love to be able to treat it like a real round.

+1. I've always wanted to do that. And for party games...golf cart polo...TCrouch wrote:I know I'm in the minority, but I'd love the ability to walk the course from shot to shot. Even if it meant using a golf cart or something.

It would be nice to be locked to your view, too. Maybe a trigger to 'squint' at the course to try to see what you're dealing with, look at a hand-held map to know your distances. It would be a hard-core game, for sure, but I'd be in heaven. Get a general direction, have a caddy who can help you judge distances, and you learn as you play. The Caddy could get better as you play, too. Have him with a notebook that carries over from hole to hole, round to round.
Make it so insanely tough to hit a "perfect" shot that you can almost never get it. Maybe 3 out of 70+ shots on any given round. But make the misses within reason. We're talking feet, single digit yards of misses, instead of those wild hacks that look like your average weekend golfer out there. These guys are all gifted ball strikers, their misses are much smaller than our misses. Let us actually learn to navigate a course and attack it, not worry about whether we miss that accuracy line by a millimeter and it shanks 30 yards left--OR, we have it on a lower difficulty and hit absolutely everything straight.
There are so many ways to make it awesome and realistic, and I fully expect to never see any of them.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
Oh yeah, I'm already all over that one at OS. I replied to it over there in my OS incarnation (OnlookerDelay). That's a big deal to me and certainly will lift the show-stopper tag I would have put on the game without such an option. If you'll notice in follow-up, Justin answered my question about the landing cut camera being reverse angle... it won't be, but he said they'd keep in mind for the future.TheTruth wrote:FYI - this was just posted over at OS. But overall, I really like the sound of what I'm learning about this aspect. At least now we'll get to see the final 10 to 20% of the ball's travel from the cut view when using what we used to call "True Aim", whereas before we only got to see a still shot of the ball at rest in the cut view!

Not unless someone does a hack for the PC version, I'm afraid. But that sounds awesome.TCrouch wrote:It would be nice to be locked to your view, too.
