Hmm does that mean I can take a drop in a spot of my choosing in a golf game like I could back in 1999?

No load times sounds good though.

Is this replacing the EA Golf game that was shown a little while back with the fantasy style courses (something with a battleship) or is that still yet another EA golf game?

Yeah, if this is a pile of fantasy bullshit they can keep it. If it has a full tour, with a full tour roster, then I'll buy it.

And no sign of Augusta yet?

Are you talking about this one?

Notice that it specifically shows and says that you play on real golf courses before it shows that you can also play on some crazy ones? It was always going to be a PGA Tour game with some insane courses to show off the Frostbite engine.

There is no denying that whoever created that trailer f***ed up in a massive way. Because even though it shows a beautiful game of golf on a world famous golf course, all anyone remembered was the f***in battleship in the last 15 seconds.

Honestly, I will probably enjoy the hell out of both sides.

Pretty sure they'll use the license to show off the likes of Watson, A. Scott, J. Day, Furyk, Garcia, Fowler, Johnson etc. As for the more premium courses, it'll be there. At a cost. It's EA right?

So no one knows if it's the same game? Or did they scrap the fantasy stuff in favor of this new title...?

Personally - I'd love to have both in the game. Some of my favorite memories with the Tiger series were on the fantasy courses.

Me too, Spook. I've never minded a little suspension of disbelief in my games; I want to play on the real courses, but it's fun to also do some crazy stuff. To me, it's no different than the arcadey mode in NBA 2k.

The fantasy stuff is still in the game.

I doubt they will show the battleship again before launch. They are trying to avoid another internet meltdown. The internet hates fun.

They only had two years to get Augusta in next gen but ran out of time and were unable to get it in the launch game, but it will be available for day one dlc for 10 - 20 bucks. :P

Seriously though I will probably end up getting it as long as they don't have the stupid swing diagonally to shoot a straight shot controls.

Same game. I did see an interview with Brent Neilsen that there will be simulation features in the game along with arcade features. My hope is that they have both (I abhor the arcade features) and keep them completely separate within the game.

I read somewhere on the game's website that there will be three different swing mechanics.

"Connect with the emotion of hitting the perfect shot and golf your way with three unique swing mechanics and fully customizable gameplay styles."

I am absolutely interested in this game. Any golf game will at least get a look from me.

Something like TGC's handicap system?

"Online Multiplayer – Compete head to head with users from around the world in a completely revamped multiplayer experience. A brand new matchmaking system and leaderboard structure create one of the most competitive multiplayer experiences in sports gaming."

This posted on the RM site yesterday regarding online play:
There’s nothing better than hitting the links with three buddies, an experience players will enjoy in EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR.

Round up your friends and play some friendly unranked games on the world’s greatest courses, or test your skills in ranked games that utilize the brand new matchmaking system.

It can be fun showing up to a course as a single and joining up with a group, and now players can have the same experience online. You’ll even see other golfers on the course with you as you play.

The pace of play much quicker in EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR, allowing you to zoom through rounds in a fraction of the time. The shot clock has also been changed to a hole clock, giving players a time limit to complete the hole, instead of a limit per shot.

More time on the course means more time for golf, so take advantage of that all-you-can-play mentality and jump back in for another round as soon as you’re done.

We’ll have more info on our online tourneys and leaderboards coming soon, so stay tuned for more announcements!
Sounds like John Cauthen may have his wish of seeing other players on the course while playing come true....

I dunno--last weekend my friend and I were playing and caught a single. We played with him and he was an excellent player. I doubt it was fun for him being stuck with duffers, but it sure was fun for us to see him rip off 280 yard drives and knock in birdies every 3rd hole.

Weekend before that I ended up merging our twosome with a guy and his wife that lived on the course we were at. That was fun, because we all hit some great shots, and we all did some hilarious top-the-ball hacks, too. I tend to have a lot of fun when we merge groups. Maybe I'm the weird one.

Well you would be the first person I know if who prefers getting paired up. Could be I'm just a golf snob, but last time we got paired up the guy missed a put and threw his putter and him me in the leg, on the 1st HOLE.

We promptly told him to go out ahead of us we didn't want to play with him. Then informed the club house why we split from him. Never saw him after the turn and it wasn't because he was so good he out paced us. :D

Yeah, I don't have experiences like that. I usually get a vibe from the guy before joining them. I'll consider myself lucky. I'd have lost my sh*t if that happened to me

I don't "prefer" it, but I haven't had enough bad experiences to make me think it's not fun. It's sort of like semi-speed-dating. You talk to them just long enough to get to know them, then never see them again. It's interesting, and can be fun.

Getting paired up with the guy who stands over the ball for 30-45 seconds before he his EVERY shot, and still shoots 20 strokes worse than me is the epitome of torture on a golf course. I hate getting paired with people on munis...most of the time they are worse than me, and I cannot stand watching guys stand over balls for so long and still hit like sh*t. My impatience really gets the best of me on the course for some reason. Grip it and rip it. I'm not going to shoot better than my normal 80-82 if I stare at it harder.

I'm pretty sure Raylen's rule applies here. To paraphrase, "If you get paired up with an asshole at the golf course, you got paired up with an asshole. If everyone you get paired up with are assholes, then you're the asshole."
