PS - Why in this day and age of next-gen and VR can't we get an online web-based real time stats and leaderboard functions for games like this. Turn 10 does have one for Forza 5, but it is really clunky, and does not even show the same information that the in game leaderboards show. At least it is easier to get screenshots than it used to be, although I still wish Microsoft would just actually implement a Screenshot/Capture functionality to the One.

Very cool people are running laps.

Still stuck in Warcraft.

But

I will get in some clean laps that I need in some of those classes before the deadline.

I decided to try some new cars and builds/setups to challenge myself and to try to have a theme to go along with the 63rd running of the Twelve Hours of Sebring. As much as possible, I went with some classic race cars (or in the case of the 2013 Lotus E21 Formula 1 car, a classic livery of the Lotus). These all proved to be difficult cars to drive fast, but fun and rewarding when you get in a clean lap. You have to be early on the brakes, turn hard into the corners, and be gentle on the throttle as you come out of the turns. These cars will bite you, but man they are fun and sound great. I don't know if I will end up sticking with these through the duration of the challenge, but I thought I would go ahead and share them along with the Build/Setup I am using, and the fastest times that have been posted using that setup. They are certainly all capable of high leader board times in the right hands, but that is not me.

For this challenge I have been driving with no assists, manual clutch, cockpit view, damage off, driving line on, and I am using the Thrustmaster TX steering wheel. I may end up turning on traction control before it's all said and done, but I wanted to try it without first. Click on the car name to see a high resolution shot of the car, click on the Build/Setup Gamertag name to go to a link about the setup. If you want to load one of these setups, within the games load setup options, do a search on the Gamertag that is listed and you can load it from there. For the Open Source builds, you can also just follow the information in the links and build/setup the car yourself.

PS - Bonus points if you know who the livery the Ford Foyt #14 Gilmore Coyote is based on (Paul can't answer :) )

D Class - 1969 Pontiac GTO (D400)
Build/Setup: gtFOOTw - 2:32.158 capable

C Class - 1967 Lamborghini Miura (C500)
Build/Setup: gtFOOTw - 2:22.778 capable

B Class - 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 (B600)
Build/Setup: gtFOOTw - 2:17.200 capable

A Class - 1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale (A700)
Build/Setup: V12 TN Eagle - 2:05.497 capable

S Class - 1965 Shelby Daytona Coupe (S800)
Build/Setup: Raceboy77 - 2:01.254 capable

R Class - 1966 Chaparral 2E (R900)
Build/Setup: gtFOOTw - 1:56.204 capable

P Class - 1977 Ford Foyt #14 Gilmore Coyote (P990)
Build/Setup: CQR Takumi - 1:44.300 capable

Gorgeous paint job on that Coyote, Don. I'll disqualify myself from the bonus question too but if I had the Coyote DLC I'd be all over that like a bad suit.

I'm still using a game pad. No idea how much I'm missing through not having an XBox-friendly wheel, but the feedback through the triggers makes a massive difference on corner entry and exit compared to Forzas of old, to the point that when I play something like DriveClub on PS4 (which is also terrific, by the way, though an altogether different beast to Forza) I genuinely miss having those trigger sensations available.

Must admit: It's pretty bitchin' for me to drive into Sebring this week, work in the media center and walk around certain parts of the circuit and see all the places where I have f*cked up in this VERY fun Forza challenge. :)

It really has been. Now that I have clean times posted in every rave, I've decided that instead of trying to improve them, I'm going to try to beat them with some of the assists off. I probably won't get a Tim into this month's races, but I hope to improve enough to roll into next month without needing all of the assists.

This challenge has been a fun way to get back into this game, appreciate what it does so well, and actually push to improve. And that is awesome!

I'm done. Don't return from the real Sebring until late Saturday night. But this still was a riot.

Thanks to The Donald. Looking forward to the next one! Long Beach?

Well the actual 12 Hours of Sebring is over, and what an exciting finish it was, however, there is still just over 12 hours left to post your times for the DSP 12 Hours of Sebring Mechberg Rivals Challenge:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16140&start=350#p405340

I will be taking screenshots of the final leadboards at 11:59pm EDT tonight. Good luck!

The problem with waiting til last day...Servers were wonky. Had to do two over again.

CRAMMING always sucked.

I got..I think... clean laps in all classes but Im past the point of no return... I was trying to do one of them with no assists but I see I did pretty much the opposite.

When we doing Road America?

DSP 12 Hours of Sebring Mechberg Rivals Challenge - Final Results

Saturday Feb 28, 2015 - Sunday March 22 at 11:59pm EDT

Post a clean Rivals Lap in all 8 classes at Sebring Full

Use any car, setup/tune, and assists you like, but try to post a clean lap for it to count in the Rank.

Any laps that were not clean, I added 5 seconds and highlighted in yellow. If you completed at least 5 of the 8 classes, but missed a couple, I added +25 and highlighted in red.

Shoot for two Benchmarks (aka Ranks). The Mechberg Rank and the World Record 107% Rank

So just to summarize, using Turn 10's Brian Ekberg's (Mechberg) times as a Benchmark, your total rank is how many total seconds slower, or faster you were to his benchmark times at Sebring Full.

Adam (theycallhimsim) and I both managed to get an overall negative Mechberg Rank, but the 107% of the World Record Rank proved to be pretty tough to beat. Nice showing overall, and thanks to everyone that competed. Pretty cool mix of cars that we used throughout the competition.

Next up is Long Beach. I will try to post the details soon, but go ahead and get started now! :)

Great fun, The Donald. Thanks for organizing. I only had time to work on D and C class cars, as I was on the road a lot for work earlier this month.

Looking forward to the next challenge. Long Beach for April? :)

Loved this, Don. Finally figured out a halfway decent line through the final corner too, or at least one that didn't involve being sideways for the duration. I feel that helped.

After this, the Elan and the Cortina are among my favourite cars in the game. The Cortina tuned to B600, with a turbo and all sorts of ridiculous noises coming from it, is amazing fun to drive but I'd never have gone anywhere near it without this challenge.

DSP Grand Prix of Long Beach Mechberg Rivals Challenge

Monday Mar 23 - Sunday April 19, 2015 at 11:59pm EDT

Post a clean Rivals Lap in all 8 classes at Long Beach Full Indycar Circuit

Use any car, setup/tune, and assists you like, but try to post a clean lap for it to count in the Rank.

For X Class, try to use any one of the modern day Indycars. As of right now Mechberg's lap, as well as all the current DSP laps are in the modern day Indycars. So while the Lotus F1 X class would definitely be faster, let's try to keep this X Class to one of the Indycars that will be running in the actual Long Beach Grand Prix.

Any laps that are not clean, I will add 5 seconds and highlight in yellow. If you complete at least 5 of the 8 classes, you can still get a rank, but missing class times will get a +25 and highlighted in red.

Shoot for two Benchmarks (aka Ranks). The Mechberg Rank and the World Record 107% Rank

Why those Ranks? Our old friend Brian Ekberg (Mechberg, aka BBReBozo) of Turn 10, sits atop my Friends leader boards (timewise) for practically all the cars/classes when I pull up any Rivals events. Therefore, providing pretty solid lap times to shoot for. Try to beat his times posted for Long Beach Full for all Classes.

And if that is not enough of a challenge, you can also try to beat the 107% time of the current World Record for that class. The 107% rule is a Formula One regulation where during the first phase of qualifying, any driver who fails to set a lap within 107 percent of the fastest lap time will not be allowed to start the race.

Your overall Rank for both benchmarks is how positive or negative you are to the benchmark times.

At 11:59pm EDT on Sunday April 19, 2015 the challenge will end and I will record video of the current leader boards so that it basically takes a "snapshot". I will then compile the results and give each DSP member posting times for each class a Mechberg Rank and a World Record 107% Rank.

I have provided below the current Mechberg Laps, Cars, Assists Used, etc. per Class at Long Beach Full, as well as the current World Record in Forza 5 and it's subsequent 107% time. Likewise, if there are some other cars that are consistently being used in the top 100 times, I posted those as well. But again, feel free to use your own and be creative.

I wish I still had Forza 5. I guess I sold it when FH2 came out, because I no longer have the discs anywhere.
