Rock Band 4

Post by vader29 »

Hopefully this comes to the current systems, they have been hinting over the last few months on social media of a return and they just recently released new dlc for RB3, today they released a short survey and there are ideas of importing your old songs and even backwards compatibility of the old instruments: https://t.co/CxZgUQcFNi

Awesome! I took the survey. I would love to see the series get resurrected. I bought a set of electronic drums after my RB ones finally broke, and I hope I would be able to hook those up to a new game.

Took the survey also. Even though the game is so 2006, it would be great if we could use one those guitars that are stacked in the closet.

Survey submitted. Would love an updated version with new hardware and "next gen" options. Our 2 year old son is a Drumming maniac - would be amazing if there was a version of this in the next few years that he could play drums with.

ROCK BAND 4 IS COMING, AND HARMONIX IS BRINGING IT BACK TO BASICS
The rhythm game genre seemed unstoppable for a number of years as both Activision's stable of developers and Harmonix cranked out sequel after sequel to the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises, respectively.

Fans bought game after game, along with expensive plastic versions of musical instruments so they could pretend to be in a rock band while pretending to play music in their living rooms.

Then, nearly as suddenly, it all stopped. Harmonix moved onto other projects, and Activision shuttered or collapsed a number of studios that were working on the Guitar Hero series. The era of plastic instruments ended not with a bang, but with a whimper.

It's been a little under five years since the release of Rock Band 3, and the whispers of a new title and the demands of players who have no rhythm games to play are becoming overwhelming. After hinting strongly that something big was in the works, Harmonix is officially saying it's time to get the band back together.

Rock Band 4 is coming, and you'll be playing it this year.

YOUR SONGS WILL CARRY OVER
Your downloaded songs will work through console families, so PlayStation 3 content will work on PS4, and the same with the Microsoft consoles. Now it's a matter of making sure the library works in the new game, while also figuring out the licensing for the existing content.

Harmonix is dealing with not only DLC, but also songs you bought in a previous game that could be used in later games and will now be used in the latest game on a new platform. This is another area where they're working with first parties, but have many issues they have to solve themselves. This sort of thing is a unique challenge, and one that doesn't have many existing best practices.

"The work is going really well. I'm confident that we'll get there. Players who have a good-sized library of DLC, it will show up day one and they'll have their songs," Sussman said.

Harmonix can't talk about specific terms of these deals, but Sussman described it as a "rolling set of licenses," some of which are easier to renew than others. He estimated that over 95 percent of Rock Band's library of songs will make it over into Rock Band 4.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR EXISTING INSTRUMENTS?
Accessory manufacturer Mad Catz will be creating new instruments for the game, so you can look forward to purchasing new guitars and drums if you'd like. But there is also work being done to make sure your existing instruments are backward-compatible. Harmonix says it's working "aggressively" with Sony and Microsoft to make that happen.

You'll be able to purchase Rock Band 4 in a number of ways, but only a few have been announced, including:

• The Band-in-a-Box Bundle, which includes the Rock Band 4 game, a Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controller, a Wireless Drum Kit Controller and a Microphone.

• The Guitar Bundle, which includes the Rock Band 4 game and a Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controller.

• A special Wireless Stratocaster Guitar Controller, featuring custom artwork of "Gabe" from the Penny Arcade webcomic. This limited-edition collectible will only be available via on-site pre-orders at the Harmonix booth during PAX East.

Interesting. I have all my instruments and a gazillion dollars in dlc for my 360. I wonder if it's this game, strangely, that puts a Xbone in my house.

I feel like I'm the only one who has no interest in this. Rock Band got me interested in learning how to play actual instruments and I can play guitar now and I'm learning Piano. My kids can also play each, and much better than I do.

I also don't understand why the Xbox instruments are a challenge, were they just USB?

The Xbox one uses a different kind of wireless connection for the controller. Maybe that's why?

We still play Rock Band once in a while. Another reason to keep the 360. So, not too excited about RB4.

I have at least 50 bucks worth of DLC so I will go the Xbox way. Too bad for the instruments as I still have my drums, portable piano and guitar. Look forward to play some more Queen.

I think this game will struggle...not flop but not do too well. It ran it's course on the 360. Just my opinion.

If there was a Rocksmith for drums, I would probably have less interest. Also, RS is not a group game. Being able to play with friends or your kids is pretty fun.

I was really referring to Rocksmith. I went out and spent the money on actual lessons which for me were far more valuable. I equate RB to owning a karaoke machine, you might bust it out at a party but other than that I wouldn't spend time on it. Again just my opinion, if they got the instruments to work I might be more inclined.

Ha, sorry Dan, I totally read "Rock Band" as "Rock Smith" in your post.

I do think this seems likely to fail, but honestly, if I can get my old DLC to work on a new generation and either use my drums or a new RB kit, I know I will play the hell out of this. I put more money and time into the three RB games than probably all my other 360 games combined.

Yeah, I will buy it and play it solo for the most part. I don't see any Rock Band parties coming up. But I still get the urge to play every now and then. Their focus on arcade fun over teaching is the direction I am interested in.

I don't think it is going to blows doors off like it did years ago, but I don't think it will be a flop, either. I think they will sell and lot of copies, and a decent amount of DLC.

So did I and I totally credit Rockband for getting me interested in wanting to learn an instrument. Sure I get a few odd glances when I go to my piano lessons sandwiched between an 11 year old and 14 year old but I don't care, I love it.

By posting that you don't care you actually do care one way or the other.

LOL Vader.

My RB1 drums lasted a surprisingly long time (about 4 years) considering how much abuse they took. I still have my RB1 guitar and it still works.

The thing I loved about this game was how it combined that old-school gaming rush of always trying to beat your best score with looking at the music I grew up with in a whole new way. I found myself paying a lot more attention to the different parts of songs and how they interacted together. To me, that was way more fun that trying to figure out how Master Chief was going to get out yet another alien mess. :D

I'm psyched.

It's almost a pure party game in our house, and we've never stopped playing 3. Thrilled by this news.

Thanks, just ordered the adapter.

Went from little interest to preordering the band bundle. Family still plays and our old drums are run down. Importing RB3 songs is a big plus.
