Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
I've been thinking myself of giving RaceRoom a more earnest go. Got a new wheel so I'm able to race with it again. DTM 2013 is on sale for only $7.50 so seeing if it has really improved will be a cheap endeavor. Honestly it's hard pulling me away from Assetto Corsa. The 1.01 release with the RUF, enhanced career mode, etc has been a great drive. While the game still needs to plug some holes (too easy to lock up the brakes in the first lap, AI cars that move out of the line too easily, overly damaged AI cars staying on track causing traffic jams) the overall driving experience is sublime. I swear the career segment having to drive the Merc SLS AMG was a nightmare. That car is a tough one to control.

GB_Simo wrote:DTM Experience 2014, then.....The main difference between DTM Experience and vanilla RaceRoom - apart, that is, from the real-life DTM rules, TV graphics and so forth - is that the cars speak to you that much more....I came to DTM Experience having raced Assetto Corsa at Spa and the difference between AC's numb, inert drivers and DTM's virtual competitors is night and day..... All in all, colour me surprised. After previous experience, I really, really didn't expect to enjoy this, much less to end up spending money on it. If it weren't for RaceRoom's pricing structure, I might quietly suggest that my first impressions have the DTM cars up there with Game Stock Car Extreme for offline racing...
Thanks alot guys!!!F308GTB wrote:I've been thinking myself of giving RaceRoom a more earnest go. Got a new wheel so I'm able to race with it again. DTM 2013 is on sale for only $7.50 so seeing if it has really improved will be a cheap endeavor.

http://game.raceroom.com/store/pack/dtm-1992DTM 1992 Car Pack:
Our studio is closed for the holidays but that didn't stop passionate developers from releasing the DTM 1992 pack. A deep affection for motorsport drove us to finish this pack in 2014 and we hope you enjoy racing these cars as much as we have loved bringing them to RaceRoom
The word legendary is thrown around often, but on the subject of early ‘90s motorsport, the legacy of DTM race cars has proven worthy of that title. The unique handling and sounds of these cars become rarer by the minute, but they can be yours to experience every day in RaceRoom. Purchase the 1992 DTM pack and add 5 racing legends to your lineup.
-BMW M3 Sport Evolution
-Ford Mustang GT DTM
-Mercedes 190E Evo II DTM
-Opel Omega 3000 Evo500
-Audi V8 DTM

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
Last night and today I was engaged in the RaceRoom competitions. Those are addictive. Just need to find about 0.600 seconds and I may score DTM 2014 for free!
Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
Oh WTH, I went ahead and bought the DTM 2013 add-on for $7.49 but how do you download it? It says it's in my library but I don't see it.
Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
You won't see it in Steam. When you start RaceRoom and click on the 2013 package, you can play it. I was tricked by it yesterday. I take it the entire package is already downloaded as the base install so the 2013 package is just a quick unlock DRM thing.Rodster wrote:Oh WTH, I went ahead and bought the DTM 2013 add-on for $7.49 but how do you download it? Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
Don, 999vRP is £7.82, apparently. I've got no idea how the conversion works so I just add things to my cart in the RaceRoom store and see what it comes up as, which is one way of drawing people closer to a purchase, I guess...

Thanks F308, that's exactly how it works. My only concern is that this entire game is tied to their server. So if one day they decide to close shop like Microsoft did with GFWL than we can all say goodbye to all of our content.F308GTB wrote:You won't see it in Steam. FYI - Reiza is about to release GSC and Formula Truck to Steam, but before that they are running a special - $30 for both.

Formula Truck has been on my wish list as soon as I read about the game. I think i'll wait for some reviews, don't feel like taking a chance.

If I'm not mistaken, about the only aspect being betatested is working with Steam.Rodster wrote:Formula Truck has been on my wish list as soon as I read about the game. I think i'll wait for some reviews, don't feel like taking a chance.

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
The game can also be downloaded as a fully-featured free 60 minute trial via Reiza's website too, Rod. At least, I assume this still works - I'm on iPad here so can't test the download:

If anyone reading this still doesn't own GSC Extreme, now would be a terrific time to put that right. What a wonderful sim that is.

Supposedly, this game is free from the Formula Truck and GSE developers.

Has any tried rFactor 2? I'm downloading the demo, just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. There's a standard vs lifetime package, almost double the cost.

Nope. A special promotion to coincide with the new IMSA series. iRacing has provided promo rates with the launch of all of its sanctioned series.F308GTB wrote:Feeling market pressure from the likes of AC, GSCE, and a much improved R3E?pk500 wrote: To celebrate this partnership iRacing is offering new members the chance to join iRacing at more than 80 percent off the normal price. What is it with iRacing and faintly underwhelming rovals? Next up, Rockingham, which features a road course that isn't all that exciting inside an oval nobody uses:

GSCE has another new track on the way too, with Suzuka coming in one of Reiza's ongoing stream of free updates.

Another quality PC sim is coming to consoles. Get ready for the highly regarded Assetto Corsa on PS4 and XB1 in 2016:

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
FYI - another crowd sourcing effort, but this one by a studio that has already released a fantastic product
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/reiz ... nza#/story
Reiza is raising money to purchase rF1 source code to better implement upgrades to their games. I need to pitch my $$$ in as GSCE is one of my favorites, and Reiza has been very good about giving away new content.

Re: Racing Sim Thread, Part II
Filing that under "Shut Up & Take My Money." I adore GSCE, which would have stood perfectly well as a feature complete, content-heavy package even before the countless free updates. Reiza are squeezing great things from that old gMotor 2 engine and if they think there's even more to come, that'll be well worth a few quid. Interesting that they're looking at giving rallycross and Supertrucks a go - gMotor 2 was always terrible for off-road and dirt driving mods, so I wonder what sort of demon tweaks they might have come up with.
Elsewhere in vehicular gaming, I'm not sure Moto GP 15 merits a thread all to itself. I've got it on PS4 and can report that it's definitely a Milestone bike game, which is probably as much as anyone needs to know to make a purchasing decision.
The main differences from the 2013 game, the last one I played, are that there's a brief tutorial at the start of the game, a full squad of 2014 and 2015 riders across all 3 categories and that it's easier to avoid falling off. To begin the falling process is exactly as easy as before - gas it too hard on corner exit, lean over too far, let your inner optimist operate the brakes - but in almost every case, the game gives you enough warning that you can try to take corrective action. Beyond that, and with the usual qualifier about me not being very good at any motorcycling game made after Road Rash 2, I can't feel a huge amount of difference between this and previous iterations.
In terms of modes, the 2014 Real Events scenario section is nice enough, particularly as they're not all "Riding as Marc Marquez, win the race," focusing on events lower down the field too. 2 Stroke Heroes contains a bunch of racing legends, some on their most iconic bikes - Schwantz on a '93 Suzuki, for instance - and others not so much - Eddie Lawson on a Cagiva, Freddie Spencer on the '93 Yamaha France bike he used to mount a comeback, fell off, walked away from, rinsed and repeated. I've not spent much time with it at all so I'm not sure if those bikes feel different to control, as they ought to. I'll give it a go at some point and report back.
The XB1 version apparently suffered performance issues at launch which Milestone themselves flagged pre-release. I don't know if they've been patched yet but the PS4 version runs well, except for when your bike temporarily becomes invisible, which happens frequently on the main straight in Qatar and occasionally everywhere else.

It's hard to believe that GT once considered the Top Dog in console sim racing has passed the torch to Forza and Forza does look spectacular. That said i'm looking forward to GT7 sometime in 2025 on the PS6.F308GTB wrote:1) Hard to believe Gran Turismo is nearly 20 years old
