Sunset Overdrive

Post by Pete1210 »

Reviews are rolling in and they are very good, http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one ... ic-reviews

Browsing the metacritic blurbs, I keep seeing the word "fun!"

This game was one of the reasons I picked up an XB1 first, since it was a new IP that looked "crazy, fun and original." Very much looking forward to playing this tomorrow.

Hopefully this is the type of game that propels other devs to produce these kind of "fun" games. Similar to the Dreamcast era. Great to hear it's getting good reviews.

It sounds and looks stupidly funny. I always have some interest in open world games, will give it a try.

What is this game? A shooter? an online shooter?

Think of it as a cross of Crackdown and Jet Grind Radio.

I think it looks great, but I don't think I need to add a game to my plate right now. I'm getting the MCC, and between that and FH2, my online play is filled up. Plus all three EA Sports games are already fighting for time.

I still want to pick up Alien: Isolation when Turtle Beach gets their new Stealth headsets out the door, which will bring wireless 7.1, as well as not requiring a connection to the controller, even for chat.

Too many games.

I'm all over this game in the spring, when its price will drop to $39 or lower. Not because it's a turd-like title but because retail chains will want to clear their stock for spring titles.

Then again, if a store offers Sunset Overdrive for $29 on Black Friday, I'll buy!

I'll be anxiously watching the Black Friday "scroll" :) Hopefully there are some nice deals this year.

If I see a ton of folks on my friends list playing this, I might grab it, since it is supposed to have some great multiplayer. But I'm not going to be the one getting it hoping others pick up on it.

I have always trusted Gametrailers reviews more than IGN, and they seemingly found the game to be decent, but not great, pointing out some concerns.

That review aside, it looks pretty cool but its not my mug of beer. I am in interested in if anyone is getting Lords Of The Fallen?

I think it's a game I probably would have enjoyed more in my 20s than 40s. Still, it should provide a lot of mindless entertainment, and eventually am excited for my son to play it.

I'm down with this game, but the COD commercials have totally won me over as my next game. This will be next (or both). After the drab muck of Evil Within, this seems like a good change of pace.

Played this for a couple of hours last night. It's exactly what you think you're getting from the trailers/videos.

It's fun to zip around the city on rails/wires/roof edges, shooting at stuff. The Amps you start to get to power you up do some funny stuff, like shooting the exploding teddy bears or throwing fireballs with a melee punch. And I had probably 5 or 6 times that I laughed out loud at some of their pop culture references at everything from video games in general to Breaking Bad.

It seems like it will get more entertaining the more I play, but the only nag I had last night was ammo seemed to be tough to get for specific weapons. I don't know how I'm supposed to get more of it, so maybe it's a hard-coded system to force you to swap weapons constantly, I don't know. Only having 14 shots in a handgun that takes a couple of shots to drop a bad guy seems "off", though.

If I'm being honest the few videos of this game that I have seen did nothing for me. It didn't really look all that fun. Get 3 bounce kills. Now get 3 other kills. Now get 5 bounce kills. I saw another where it was just a street and the guy did nothing but grind up and down the rails on the side of the street and shoot stuff. Maybe I'm missing something here?

Nope, that's pretty much it. The fun part comes in mixing up how you build your skill modifier and open up amps, as you can't use an amp just doing one thing (like sliding along a rail). You have to switch grind top or bottom, hop to a bounce pad, wall run, etc. When you mix up your movement skills you build a big modifier and unlock your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th amps and all hell breaks loose.

But it never really becomes more than "slide around and shoot things" at its core.

Probably about 20 years of youth to make this game seem totally awesome as opposed to kind of neat. :D

It's basically a re-skinned Infamous minus all the cheesy grim and gritty? That could be fun.

Reviews were right. This game is tons of fun. Getting even better now that I got the movement down and some crazy amped up weapons. Possible GOTY for me (so far).

I am having a lot of fun with it but I have a really tough time with the upgrade interface and figuring out how/when to upgrade and what things are upgradable.
