Will do, dude. Thanks!

I can't believe how f*cking good this game is. It's almost the perfect console golf sim.

Except for a few little things (like the chipping still being a completely different game it seems and some of the physics on the approach shots to the green), it is...almost the perfect sim.

My chipping is sh*tty because I suck. Not the game's fault, at least with me! :)

LOL... welcome to the fold Paul! For me, it is the former... it IS the greatest patch in sports gaming history and I'm being totally sincere when I say that! Honestly, I felt like Monday was the real release of The Golf Club and I've been playing it obsessively since I downloaded both patches.

I want you to try an experiment for me, play a few holes on a course called Ross Hollow Golf Club and remember how the swing feels. Then locate Autumn Ridge G.C. (make sure you put the periods in there or you'll get an imposter) and play a few holes there. If you've turned off Depth of Field in the Display menu, remember you'll have to go back and manually turn it off again and save/exit before each round, or it won't really be off. What this will do is illustrate to you the range of frame rate performance you can experience in the game. I just want you to be aware that the experience can vary this much, but these two courses will give you a good barometer. BTW, I like both of those courses, which is why I used them.

Make sure you check out TGC Players Club at Shawnee Creek, Ballyntyne Golf Club (Championship and Members edition), Ascension Bay (Definitive EDN), Flathead County Golf Club, to name a few. There's more quality courses than you can shake a stick at right now :D
It's quite a compliment to a game when my only complaint is lack of stat tracking, such as greens in regulation, putts, etc.
Yeah, all this is under refinement. They have more telemetry that they evaluate than most realize. They pay attention to a lot of things that go on as people play this game. The stats are there, they just aren't at our disposal....yet
This is the most enjoyable, realistic console golf title I've played since Links 2003 for the original Xbox.
After this update, I co-sign this statement! 8)

Just played your three-hole course at lunch. Nice layout, but a 601-yard par-4? That's a bit much! :)

I will agree on this patch being a huge improvement on the Xbox One (at least so far). I had basically stopped playing the game several weeks ago due to the unbelievelable number of disconnects and freezes I was getting every time I would try to play 18 holes. The messages and ghosts had stopped working consistently and the stat tracking and scroring had all sorts of wierd issues.

I logged in this morning, played 9 holes against Paul's ghost and had no lockups, the game played smoothly, the short game and chipping seemed much better, and the graphics looked better. I have not even changed any of the FOV or cameras as suggested yet. I wish more folks were on the Xbox One version as this could finally be the console golf sim we have been waiting for.

How do I play against Friends' ghosts?

Everything about The Golf Club feels right. Intuitive controls, no annoying swing meters. Everything is based on flow, feel and rhythm. Gorgeous courses with a variety of challenge, fantastic ball and wind physics, realistic plays from various lies, etc.

It's quite a compliment to a game when my only complaint is lack of stat tracking, such as greens in regulation, putts, etc.

What a fantastic title. I used free MS credits to buy this game, but 90 holes of play already have shown me The Golf Club is worth every penny of $35. This is the most enjoyable, realistic console golf title I've played since Links 2003 for the original Xbox.
The patch, especially for the XB1 is one of the best patches in sports gaming history......HB Studios is doing a great job listening to their customers, then implementing improvements to the game.....

Before the patch it was a game that was "good", now it is on the threshold of being "great".....the patch for the PS4 makes this play like a new game and now I am less frustrated with it and am playing better....IOW, making shots and saying, yes I hit it well or no, I shanked that one....

Paul, would you mind if I quoted the above in the official forum? It would help establish a point I'm trying to make about how changes such as they've just made to The Golf Club this week can translate into recognition and sales.

The "not talked about much" feature of no loading time between holes is key. Shortens rounds incredibly. 18 holes in under 30 minutes is common.

Yes, this is a big advantage to the game. I'd still like to have the option to fast forward and/or skip to the end of a shot, particularly when I'm playing with a turn-based enabled 'ghost' player. I'd be less likely to use it now for my own shots, since they've given us the option to watch the shot for as long as we'd like from the golfer's perspective, but it would still have its utility, overall.

It got a little bump, other than the benefit of turning off Depth of Field. I'm trying to figure out what they did, but it almost looks like they either added anisotropic filtering, or upped it a smidgen.

Putting has some quirks in this game that make you have to go outside the box a bit to compensate for them. It looks to me like the same formula that's used for calculating the affect of a side slope on an approach shot is used to determine the angle at which the ball will come off the putter face. If I've got a general right to left slope, the ball is going to come directly off the putter face at an angle proportional to that slope. It doesn't come straight off and then start breaking in accordance with the slope and speed. I always have to add an additional 4 or 5% of correction to the perceived break because of this.

Secondly, you almost can't overestimate the affect of the break itself. I'm hot exaggerating, 90 to 95% of my missed putts, miss on the low side of the hole because I've underestimated the break. ALWAYS err on the side of adding more break correction than you think is needed.

Use the aiming marker as the target to identify the spot to which you're really trying to hit the ball. Stoke the ball as if it's a flat green and you're trying to stop it right at the yellow marker. I always add a foot or two to what I've calculated is the distance in need to hit the ball, and set the marker there. Finally, with your stroke, use a smooth, deliberate rhythm and make the golfer swing the putter like you think it needs to be swung for the given putt. It's amazing how much more confidence you can build when you put your brain inside your virtual golfer's head 8)

Look at the messages in the message center and see which courses your friends have played. Find one you want to play and then start a round on that course. The game will likely populate the 'group's' roster with your friend's name for you. If you have more than one on the master list to the left of the group list, you can click on the master list to bring over the names you want to have in your group. If there's one in your group you don't want in there, click on their name it they will be removed.

When you tee off, you can then enable to the in-game menu by pressing the start button. The second item down I think is called Turn-Based Play. If you enable it, you'll see a recording of the other player(s), playing their shots according to the order of play rules of golf. It's pretty cool actually... I'm paused in a match with Kamackeris right now in which we're only one stroke about through 12. :)

John:

Please do! Just like Fred McGriff's endorsement of Tom Emanski's (back-to-back-to-back National AAU titles!) baseball basic skills VHS tapes, I give this game my highest recommendation. :)
