Project Spark

Post by Pete1210 »

After a long beta, Project Spark is officially released today on XB1/PC.

Project Spark is free. It is not barebones. In fact there was such an overwhelming amount of creation tools and user created games to explore in the beta that I couldn't imagine any need for the $39.99 "starter pack" promoted in the video. The video does give a look at some of the types of games you can make or find and play. In the beta there were already a ton of games to play and of course some reimagined classics. I tried one Elder Scrolls RPG, a pinball game and a few platformers during the beta. The only drawback I would say is that the 3D graphics look limited to fantasy genre, like Fable or Kingdoms of Amular.

Even though I am not all that interested in creating games, I think it is very cool to have something like this available on the console or PC (and its cross platform). I'll certainly be checking out the games others are making. Maybe I'll try and design a simple game for my phone. :)

I don't understand this game/project at all. The only thing I can relate it to is Little Big Planet, but it seems like so much more maybe.

So - it's free but it's $40 for a starter pack. That is confusing. Is the Starter Pack for those that want to create but it's free for me to go in and play any created worlds/levels?

The starter pack is sort of like the VIP pass in Forza Horizon 2. You can create plenty without the starter pack. I found the amount of free content available to create with to be more than I could ever use.
