Drive Club

Post by Leadfoot5 »

Anyone else plan on grabbing this one for the PS4? I'm probably going to pull the trigger as I've got some other friends likely to get it. Will be splitting time between FH2 and DC. First world problems. :)

Seems interesting, however with FH2, F5 and then all of the sports games out now, I've got little to no time for a duplicate racer. Ugh...wish it would have come out in a few months. Maybe I'll grab it then on the cheap.

Yup, the free version is like a super-demo of the full game. Achievements and progress will carry over if you buy the full game later.

Hope it plays as good as it looks on paper: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/06/ ... ub-on-ps4/

Really don't see the need after FH2.

Definitely downloading it tomorrow. With no option of Forza 5 or Horizon 2, this will at very least scratch my itch for a racing game. I'm not foolish to think it'll be as good as either of those two games, but it looks pretty nice.

Looking forward to this as well as NBA 2K15.

I had it pre-ordered and yeah it's too bad that it comes out just a week after H2. I'll play the demo being a Plus member and take it from there.

Driveclub IGN review. Decent review score. Happy to hear it leans towards an arcade racer.

Ouch. Not a very good review from Gamespot.

I spent an hour with the game this morning before work and I think that review (IGN) is spot on. The lighting is the best I've seen, and the environments are amazing, but after a week of FH2, the invisible barriers around the track make me feel a bit claustrophobic. But yeah, it's a different kind of game and I get that. With such fantastic environments, it's a shame they didn't include a replay feature. Would have been nice. (Or maybe I missed it?). The diverse scenery is definitely a plus over FH2, and will help to keep me playing. All the same driving views as FH2 are in the game, and I really like the fact that there is a rear-view mirror in the "hood cam" option.

Another big shift from FH2 is the fact that rubbing ain't rewarded. You lose "fame" for contact with other cars, the walls, etc. It's all about driving clean, so I think I appreciate the "sticky" handling that makes it easier to stay planted to the tarmac. Still, the game is about racing, and I did enjoy the racing action in the 4 races I got in. There are no "on-track" racing lines, so you'll have to pay attention to the flags indicating how sharp an upcoming turn is, and just learn the tracks. This part is ok with me. I also couldn't find a way to change the difficulty, which is ... interesting. Almost like the way The Golf Club approaches things...

The engines sound great, but the music is not comparable to FH2, not by a long shot. In fact, it was turned off by default - I think the developers would prefer you just listen to the engines, which is ok by me.

The Servers were down so I couldn't try any of the social stuff...

Yeah, I can't argue with the "bland atmosphere, bland presentation" statements. Totally agree - no energy or excitement. If the experience off the racetrack is important to you, you will be disappointed for sure.

With little time and travels in the horizon, I decided to return my pre-order and just play H2. Still they send me a code for the RUF RF12 R pack, so if you're interested first PM gets it.

PS+ 'FREE' version delayed. Server issues. PSN Server issues for the full game too.

Glad to know Sony kept their promise that this gen, PSN wouldn't be the utter sh1t of a online gaming network that it was last gen. Not even with a paid subscription Sony is able to provide a decent online infrastructure. They need to set their goal to be at least a quarter of what XBL is.

picked it up for 35 bucks with Amazon price match.

Just started out and man what a fun game . If you just like arcade racers, this is really great. There is no real sim part to this game. this is the type of game I like. It reminds me of Project gotham series last gen. Also for their F' up on release, all DLC is free. Not sure about online, haven't tried it, but having lots of fun offline.

It's the most gorgeous racing game I've ever seen and it's not even close. They have a demo at a BB near me, and it's absolutely unreal looking. I'm tempted to pick it up at $35, but I just bought Forza 5. So, it doesn't make a lot of sense to have two similar style games. But for those who have held on to it are really singing its praises now, since most of the online issues have been fixed. There are still problems however.

I'm definitely going to rent it.

Terrible, absolutely unforgivable launch and next several weeks (have we reached months yet), but when it's working it's such a great friggin game.

How do you compare it to Forza 2? Is Forza 2 as arcade or as forgivable as this game?

Picked this game up on a whim this evening and played for an hour straight, which is very uncommon for me these days. This game is so incredibly fun. The timed circuits are a blast, and the track designs are nothing short of phenomenal. Now, the races are a little frustrating in that the A.I. cars do tend to ram you if you're in their intended line. Also, they will pass you very quickly if you make a small mistake. I'm hopeful they'll patch a few of these issues. The sense of speed and and more specifically the visuals are the best I've seen, and I have yet to try out the weather patch that was 2.8 GB.

Can't wait to dive back in to this game over the holiday break!

ya it's def old school. i have to go back to the tracks to get the stars. sometimes i miss the challenge by .01 of a second or just get passed by in a race at the end. the game has some golden moments. I was addicted the first 24 hours. Could not put the game down. In a 24 hour span I think I got to something like Level 13.

but now i am frustrated w/ the game because it has become so hard. once you get past the rookie tour and the rookie cup, the game gets really hard and is no longer an arcade racer. it reminds me of forza 5 since the high end cars are much faster and much more difficult to control. Drifting is a real pain in the ass too in this game. I never been a good drifter in racing games, but in this game it's very sim based because drift is different for each car and each course. I guess that's good if you like sim racing, but this game is touted as arcade so it's tuff for me to pull off. I'm at a point where i drift as least as possible.

Once you get past the cars and tr'acks you're at, get ready for a hard game. Its like they flip the switch in difficulty 5 notch's up.

btw all dlc is free. they gave it as an apology for the crappy launch. but get the free dlc from within the game, not outside the game from the psn store. there's some glitch if you get it from psn store.
