Yes. You have to have the disc in the drive to launch, even though the game has been installed on the HDD>Jimmydeicide wrote:OK question. If i get a game on disc like Fifa say and load it on the hardrive do i still need to put the disc in every time or is it going to be like as if it was digital download?

That's right. Only time you don't have to of course, is if you bought it digitally.DivotMaker wrote:You have to have the disc in from my experience.....

Yeah, you need the disc. The internet melted down when Microsoft tried to allow gamers to keep the discs put away.

That was pretty out there but on the other hand it is nice to have the choice.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Non sensical statement, XXXIV. MS always wanted to allow the choice of purchasing the game digitally or on physical disc; what they intended was to allow the exact same usage privileges with either method of purchase, but they felt forced to abandon those plans.XXXIV wrote:Aristo wrote:Yeah, you need the disc. What MS wanted to do was allow you to purchase a physical disc, and then install the game on your XB1 and never need to put the disc in the machine again. This also would have allowed you to later install the game via download on any XB1 on which you were signed in, for example at a friends house. As long as your GT was signed in, or the GT of as many as ten people you have as part of your family, the game would be playable on any XB1 machine. The machine would have to be connected to the internet, of course.
Then, you could trade in / sell away the physical disc either to any retailer that was part of MS's trade in alliance (who would then reset the digital rights code so you would no longer be able to access the game), or to anyone on your friends list (and as soon as that friend installed the game on his machine, the digital rights would transfer from you to him).
Sounds pretty cool, huh? Alas it was not to be.

I guess I never paid close enough attention to all the details of MS's plan. If this were what it was supposed to be what was everyone's problem again? I hate swapping discs.Zeppo wrote:Non sensical statement, XXXIV. 1. Internet connection required every 24 hours to play your games.Bakes wrote:I guess I never paid close enough attention to all the details of MS's plan. If this were what it was supposed to be what was everyone's problem again? I hate swapping discs.
2. New method with restrictions on trading or selling game discs. They never fully explained this.
I think it worked out OK the way it did with XB1. If I want convenience of digital I have that option. If its an SP game or one I'm not sure I'll play for long I can buy the disc and easily sell/trade it. I would not have used the game sharing or ability to access my digital games on another XB1.

Simple many sources (Sony, fans and gaming press) used Microsofts terrible communication of their system to enrage the internet mob. The biggest point of rage selling use games, which I'm sure some people do but I would bet a majority of people are using digital downloads now. In fact i recall several people on this forum having issues with the above. I would love an honest answer from them on how many games they have purchased digitally compared to disc and how many they have sold used.Bakes wrote: I guess I never paid close enough attention to all the details of MS's plan. I said it almost a year ago, the average consumer in this hobby doesn't want big change. They don't want new UI's and new ways of doing things. Throw in some nice graphics and banter around some techno jargon and they are happy as pigs in s***.
In the end my next gen consoles are now almost up to my 3 year old PC's standards and hey I can Twitch stream so the world is awesome.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Yeah, there is no doubt Microsoft s*** the bed in their attempt to sell something new. And the 24 hour check-in was just dumb. All they really needed was to require and internet check-in when installing a game. When you uninstall it for the purposes of selling it, just let the console fire out an email with a code that can be used by a new owner. Regardless, the same mobs that flipped a shot over Microsoft requiring an intent connection are playing Destiny, a game which requires an internet connection. But in the end, it was Microsoft's decision to sell something that was going to be much different, but then failing to have the entire process complete and easy to explain.
Of all the features that got changed by the internet mob, the re-introduction of requiring a disc is the one that bums me out the most. The advantages of not needing the disc are two-fold. One, it's fun to be lazy. But more importantly, it is the ability to buy a game at a store for whatever discount they want to give you, as the Best Buys and Targets compete with Gamestop for sales, and still get the advantage of disc less playing. When you are locked into the Microsoft or Sony store, you are at the mercy of their pricing. While they have gotten better with discounts, it is still cheaper to buy games, even on Amazon, for cheaper. Basically, you are stuck paying a premium for not requiring a disc, and that sucks because it didn't have to be that way.

I wasn't "enraged", but I was considering PS4 over XB1 since the message was not clear about disc trading/selling.Danimal wrote:Simple many sources (Sony, fans and gaming press) used Microsofts terrible communication of their system to enrage the internet mob. I bought my XB1 games on disc. 13 discs bought and 11 of those have been traded in. 2 of those were traded towards digital copies while they were on sale (Titanfall and Garden Warfare). I also subcribed to EA Access so my digital library is growing.
All my new Fall games be disc purchases.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I'm a bit of a cheapskate so it has been tough for me to move to strictly digital even though I love the convenience. Even with new release games like Forza Horizon 2 for example - if I preorder from Best Buy they will give me a $10 XBL credit. On top of that if I eventually tire of the game I can flip it back to Best Buy for 20 bucks or so (Forza 5 current TIV without any bonuses). So potentially an extra $30 bucks so I don't have to switch discs. I don't know. MS plan as described above sounds pretty ideal to me. Check my internet connection 400 times if you want. I don't care.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I own 3 physical copies for each system and EA Access. On the PS4 i'm a PSN+ subscriber for 3 years so that's where I get my new games from when they are available.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Same here. I did not know that. I should have taken the time to actually read past the panic.Bakes wrote: I guess I never paid close enough attention to all the details of MS's plan. If this were what it was supposed to be what was everyone's problem again? I hate swapping discs.
Now that I do know , I must condemn both the mob and MS for acquiescing to them.

It's nice not having to get up off our butts and change discs with digital download.
But at the same time, I just sold Fifa 14 on ebay for $23 and used it on Fifa 15. Digital download can't beat that.

They should be in the Upload Studio under "My Clips". Mine don't show up in the Activity Feed sometimes.Jimmydeicide wrote:ok what am i missing on "xbox record that" clips are never there. Is there something else you got to do besides say it?

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
no nothing there . we say "xbox record that" and that pops up on screen in white and nothing happens.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Check in your settings. If you don't have certain things turned on...ie. Post videos to my 'Friends' etc. it won't work.Jimmydeicide wrote:no nothing there . we say "xbox record that" and that pops up on screen in white and nothing happens.
Goto Settings>Privacy>Custom and check everything in there. Lots of things could be turned off in there. There is a setting in there called 'See Your Game Clips'. I have it set to Friends. 'Share Game Clips' is one you want set to 'Allow’ also.

All those things seem to be on Diablo and its recorded 2 clips one by my lad and one randomly probly when i first got it and just said it but nothing happens any more.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I've seen it posted that a hard reset may help. Hold down power for several seconds.Jimmydeicide wrote:All those things seem to be on Diablo and its recorded 2 clips one by my lad and one randomly probly when i first got it and just said it but nothing happens any more.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Do you get a notification in the upper left that lets you view the clip you recorded?
I had an issue for awhile in which my activity stopped getting sent to my feed, but I could still view my clips. I had to sign out and and do a hard reset in order to get my activity showing up in my, and my friends', feeds.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
What does it mean when the white Xbox home button won't stop flashing on one of my controllers? I have tried everything - fresh batteries, cold restart of machine, unplugging power brick and restarting, disconnecting working controller and trying to use faulty one, re-associating wifi connection between controller and console.
Still blinks.
Faulty controller? Thanks.
