Oh, I saw a kid do that today. Level 19, and he runs into the cave to loot, then just stays in there. Saw other guys firing at him, running up and hitting him, and I'd imagine screaming in such a way to make Francis say "dude...chill out"...lol. It was...FUNNY. When I left, after doing the 'array' mission again? Yep, he was still in there...and they were still having a fit...lol
Terry, I'm at level 23 right now. I think all my gear is light something-or-another. I know the crazy obsession with those damned purple orbs-it feels like you won the lottery when you see one fall-but damn, it just isn't worth sitting there for hours firing from one spot, just to POSSIBLY get one, and only remotely possibly at that. I'll just grind it out...lol
That's funny. I admit I did something similar yesterday, albeit only for a few minutes, just to see how people would react. There were 3 or 4 level 20 somethings standing there blasting away so I ran and stood directly in front of the cave entrance. After a minute or so they were buzzing around me firing, launching grenades, shooting rockets, etc. I imagine the rage was pretty funny.
Anyway.. anyone going to be around tonight around 10pm? Looking to do a few Venus or Mars missions or whatever really.

I'll be on starting around 9:30 tonight. Finishing Venus and starting Mars is just where I'm at too.
TCrouch wrote:GOOD! I hated that place, and I wish they'd strip any gear from people who obtained it there.
Well, I shot into the cave the first time I saw what they were doing, thinking it was a mission, and got my first and only legendary gear, so...I kinda hope they don't...lol
I had some fun playing through the most of campaign and a few strikes with friends. I think I am up to the last mission on Mars and just hit level 20.
I doubt I will play too much more of this game, running the same repetitive missions over and over and over for a chance at that special gear. The multiplayer was nothing special either. Maybe give this another week and then take advantage of the Gamestop $40 trade in offer. Too many good games coming down the pike.
There are the daily/weekly missions and strikes to keep it going a bit but yeah you are basically chasing better gear and the missions are a bit repetitive. I'll probably run through with another class and I'm a sucker for better gear so I'll keep it for now. Hopefully there is some good dlc also.
I'll be on later today if you want to finish up the story.
Trick for past level 20 is to try to get your vanguard rank up to level 2 and 3(play lots of bounties). At 2 you can buy legendary armor. This means playing a lot of public events.

Same here, Pete. This is a very good game, but it's nothing special. It's Halo with RPG touches. Everything is very polished and well packaged, but Destiny doesn't break any new ground, doesn't fulfill the hype.
The game is a solid 8/10 for me. I'll play it until the third week of November, when I will capitalize on hopefully still-strong trade-in values and subsidize most of my purchase of GTA V or Project Cars.

Anyone still playing? With a bunch of other new games in hand I figured I'd shelf this for a while but I keep coming back to it. Sure it has it's warts but I've been having a ton of fun running through the daily/weekly strikes and missions with people. The raid is also fun although I haven't had the time to go through it all from the start yet. It seems the game sort of begins in a way after you hit level 22-23 where you can now access the higher level strikes, nightfall, raid, etc.

Yes, playing regularly. Nothing about Destiny is ground-breaking or mind-blowing, but it's a very polished, tight package. Very fun.

Yep, exactly. It's not going anywhere, but I'm now waiting for them to flesh out the end game a little more. I lost some interest in the constant grind for gear with Light points in it, with such a limited mission selection. It's not like Diablo where you have something like 250 missions you can run, or randomized content--you're pretty much running the exact same 15 missions or whatever in Destiny.
And that's fine, but I can tell it's geared up for bigger things down the right. Right now the foundation is solid, but in 2 years I'm betting this barely resembles the game it currently is.
Agree that the limited amount of strikes/missions is a bit of a problem. I was doing Tiger strikes the other day and ended up getting the same one 3 times in a row. Anyway, if any of you guys want to go through the weekly strikes or whatever than hit me up on xbl. I'm playing this most nights. If you are lower level I plan on starting the other classes or I can help you through some of the more tedious missions with my hunter.
The more I play this game, the more I realize it has almost lapped the field for the dishonor of being the Most Overrated Game of the Year.
Waves of enemies approach. Shoot. Dodge. Scurry for ammo. Reload. Shoot. Dodge. Scurry for ammo. Reload. Shoot. It gets VERY old, very quickly.
Bungie has proved one thing with Destiny: It knows how to put a Hershey bar into a new wrapper and sell it as mind-bending Swiss chocolate.
This game is Halo, with all of its associated mind-numbing repetitiveness. Yes, I know shooters can be repetitive by nature. But at least Battlefield 4 provides fighting vehicles and aircraft. At least Titanfall provides titans, wall-walking and far better loadouts for fighters.
I keep slogging away at Destiny, and I'm starting to wonder why. It feels like a big waste of time, especially since I have experienced the brilliance of Titanfall.
Time to check trade-in values for this game at Best Buy.

Mostly because Destiny just happens to be a shooter, but what it really is is more of an MMO gear-grind game.
You spend a bunch of time searching for better gear and upping your skills, and the shooter part just happens to be the combat style. It's not really designed to directly compete with Battlefield or Titanfall, which is an odd thing to say, but true. It's more of an MMO than a shooter, and in those respects, the combat is pretty fantastic. It will have a ton more added onto it in the years to come, but absolutely--if the core combat doesn't interest you enough to find the better gear and level up enough to check out the different specs, then you're not going to have an "ah hah!" moment and suddenly like it.
pk500 wrote:Thanks, Terry. I'll give it a bit more time, since there's really nothing I want right now. I have GTA V and WWE 2K15 pre-ordered and paid.
What level are you currently? It wasn't until after finishing the story and advancing into the 20's that I started enjoying the game a lot more. In the upper 20's you can now try to tackle the Raid, Nightfall, and other weekly events (also you can actually start to compete a little in the Crucible although I'm still god awful).
It's lacking some in content and the game is definitely a grindfest (RNG doesn't help) but I'm still hooked for now.
I'll blow through some of the story missions some time with ya if you want. That and bounties are the quickest way to 20. It goes a lot faster in a group.

Thanks, dude!

This is a game a sausage maker could love. A true grinder. Buh-dum-dum -- I'm here all week.
I got to level 10 and just stopped. It was then that I realized that I was looking for ways to grind, not just playing the game.
Plus, The Tower can f*** itself. I do not get a anything out of walking around from station to station to trade, upgrade and acquire missions. All of this could be a simple menu system. In an effort to be cool, they just made an annoying menu system. It seems to exist for people that couldn't get enough of Playstation Home. You can even dance.
Destiny was a neat idea. But if you are not an MMO person, it is not worth the time. You are grinding in order to need to party up so that everyone in your party can stand and shoot at bigger monsters. It's a good shooter with too much stuff getting in the way of fun. There are far better options for me, both single player and multiplayer.
I'm bummed I bought into the hype, because I figured it would be this way for me. I'm just glad I didn't buy into the season pass.
