ToCA Wedneday series (off week)

James is out of town and the Wednesday series is off for the week.

I'll be hosting IndyCar 2005 tonight. I'm going to make a public room tonight so if we have disconnect problems people can just jump back in without waiting for an invite. If we get too many strangers taking spots I have no trouble kicking them for friends so if you want in and can't get in then create a game and send me an invite so I know you want.

10 and 20 lappers on pro with full rules. (Sorry, but I don't want to race under simple damage and no yellows).

I will concentrate the early races on the super speedways (Michigan, Texas, California) to give the inexperienced guys a chance to get the feel of easier tracks at speed and a chance to learn. (Slumberland I'd like to see you give it another chance and apologize for the rude introduction at Nashville or Richmond on Monday). Will probably cap the night with a quarter distance run at Indy.

Usual 10:30 start time.

Quick tips for those suffering from excessive understeer (car plowing up into the outside fence in turns):

1. Add more front wing.

2. Remove some rear wing.

3. Reduce the pressure of each of your front tires by a pound or two.

4. Add a pound or two of pressure to your right rear tire.

This won't give you the fastest setup in the world, but it will give you a stable setup and allow you to pass without pushing people on the outside line (high groove) into the fence.

Um, PK, it's understeer when your car heads straight for the outer scenery in a corner, isn't it?

No idea if that was worth marching in on this thread for, but I'm one for the fine details. I might have got this fine detail wrong, mind, but that just looks a bit wrong to me.

Yay! I actually finished two races last night without getting disconnected. Even though there were some long and repeated cautions I still had a blast for the hour or so that I raced last night. After everyone gets more comfortable with the game and we have fewer and shorter cautions this will probably become my favorite online racer.

My one racing incident last night was a wild, wild ride. I was running about fourth and I see tire smoke up in front of me. I try to slow down but I'm still running about 170 when I see a car sideways in the track in front of me. I don't have time to completely avoid it and I clip the front of the car and get flipped onto the top of my car. As I'm slowing down while sliding on the top of my car ... BAM! I get hit by somebody farther back in the pack and start a barrel roll down the track. I'm about to come to rest and then ... BAM! another car sends me rolling again. I was laughing my ass off! I really wish you could save multi-player replays.

Anyway, looking forward to next time.

I gave up after the game locked up when I went to the pits during a caution after they opened. I was in 1st at the time, and I remember someone saying that pitting while in first during a caution would cause everybody to get a black flag; however, granato did just that in the previous race, so I gave it a shot, but I warned the guy behind me in case he wanted to go in too. I really had no choice because I didn't even have enough gas to get around the track at anything but a fuel mixture of 0.

Anyways, PK, you can add the lockup in the pits to the list of bugs. Although, this one is definitely of the random kind.

Slimer:

Sorry for your woes, man, but you did have a choice: You need to run fuel mixture of 0 during cautions, especially when you're low on fuel. The only time I ever raise the fuel mix to 1 during cautions is when I need to speed up to catch the Pace Car or the pack more quickly.

Otherwise, run 0 all the time. It saves fuel, controls speed and is safer.

I was running on 0, I had enough gas to run 13 more laps at 0, but we were going green. I didn't want to run a green lap at fuel mixture of 0. That would be bad for me and dangerous for anybody who got too close to the apron.

Are you saying that I should have skipped the pits and taken the green flag and left my fule mixture at 0? I don't think that I can agree with that.

No, you're right.

I'm confused: The game locked up at your pit stop but then unlocked itself? The pits didn't open earlier?

The pits did not open until the final cation lap. I was the leader so I had already passed the pits.

The game locked up while going down pit lane. It never unlocked. I had to reboot the machine.

If you are leading the race and are behind the pace car under yellow, how do you even get a chance to pit under yellow? It seems like it usually says pits are opened at the cross of the start finish line, immediately followed by green flag next lap. So if you are leading, you have no incentive to pit under yellow, otherwise you are definitely going to go a lap down (depending on the track). I have yet to be leading in this circumstance, so I may be missing something, but this is what seems to be happening. Let me know if I am completely off base here.

Well, I've seen it happen both ways; what you describe and also where it opens the pits a lap earlier so the leader can pit. Even then, it basically goes green by the time you are out. It's a crap shoot which way the timing's gonna go, unless I'm missing something.
