Ahhhh...I see. Well, I'm not just getting it for the fitness stuff. I really don't know what people were expecting. I've read a lot of criticism of the 'unveiling' the past two days and some people were expecting way too much out of the device. I think Apple delivered a quality new product.wco81 wrote:I meant more cost-wise.
The data upload is nice, depending on what you do with that data. But you're paying hundreds more just for the Watch vs. the iPod.
A watch expert likes the build quality and design a lot. But it won't appeal to watch connossieurs because it's not mechanical.

Goooooood luck with that. If it lasted longer than 1 day, Apple would have pimped the sh*t out of it because that's what the Android Wear watches all top out at. If they could beat that, you can be damn sure they'd promote it.Diablo25 wrote:I still haven't seen battery life estimates. Hopefully it has at least a 2-3 day charge.

Most of the tech sites are guessing 1 day.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
The Verizon trade-in deal taunts me. I'm off-contract with my iPhone 4S, as I bought it used from Swappa.com.
I see no reason not to trade my 4S for $200 and get a 16 GB iPhone 6. I don't store much music on my phone, as I usually listen to a sh*tload of podcasts from my 4S and stream Google Play All Access Music while on wi-fi. I only have about 45-50 apps on my phone at one time, including the stock Apple stuff, so I haven't even filled half of my 16 GB 4S.

Seems a reasonable trade in value, especially if you've used it a couple of years.
I'm seeing iPhone 5S 32 GB for only around $300, mostly under.

I've only used my 4S since January, when I bought it used. But who knows how long it has been in service? It's been a damn good phone for me, but now the 4S is the bottom of the barrel in the upcoming iOS 8. So I need a bit more future-proofing. If I can do it for free or nearly free, why the hell not?wco81 wrote:Seems a reasonable trade in value, especially if you've used it a couple of years.

I did the trade in for a 6+ and you know when mine is shipping? Oct. 21st. Thanks Verizon.pk500 wrote:The Verizon trade-in deal taunts me. I'm off-contract with my iPhone 4S, as I bought it used from Swappa.com.

It's absolutely ridiculous how they handle updates. I had 4gb free on my 32gb iPad and I couldn't do the update unless I either A) deleted ALL of the music on my ipad since it was like 8gb and you can only do all or nothing or B) I use iTunes (not an option, hell no).Murph wrote:And of course, I don't have enough storage space. What a joke. 6gb required for a 1.5gb update? Stupid.
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I'll wait on the sidelines until I read there's no performance hit with iOS 8. I can't believe how shitty performance wise iOS has become since Scott Forstall was shown the front door.

So far, I am very impressed with the update. There's quite a few handy new features I'm sure I'll use on an every day basis. Took me over an hour to download and install iOS 8.
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I'm downloading on both my iPhone and iPad now.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Don't believe the bullsh*t floating around the Internet today that iOS 8 cripples an iPhone 4S. I downloaded it today, and I notice apps opening a hair slower on my 16 GB 4S.
Granted, I don't keep any music and only a handful of photos on my phone. I have 47 apps, including stock Apple stuff. So not that many.
But I'm not seeing the gloom-and-doom performance hit. At least not yet.

My biggest quibble so far with iOS 8 on my 4S is not speed. The phone is a bit more sluggish, but the new features are worth it. But the new OS seems to inhale battery life. I recall that happening with iOS7, too.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I updated my Mini yesterday...I think. No idea if it worked or not...because...well...it's the f*cking same w/ like a useful feature or two. No idea how Apple gets such a free pass with such a limited OS. I really wish someone in the Android space could make a tablet worth a f*ck.
Saw an iPhone 6+ in person...wow, what a nice piece of hardware. Still too big for me, but they did a damn fine job w/ it. No idea why it needs to be so big though since my LG G3 has the same size screen but it's slightly narrower and like an inch shorter...and it's already a damn big phone. Either way...nice job on the hardware Apple. Now fix the OS. The 6 is probably the perfect size.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Glad to hear the 6+ feels like a nice piece or hardware. I will have mine in the mail tomorrow. I - for one - LOVE the minor updates and tweaks they have made in iOS8, at least for the phone. iPad improvements seem less exciting.
I am a bit bummed at the height of the 6+ but understand he design decision since they are pretty committed to that 'Home' button now more than ever (with Touch ID and Apple Pay). I loved my Galaxy Note 2 and never had any problems with using it it one or two handed or fitting it into any pockets so I'm sure I'll have no issues with the 6+.
DB - What is it that you feel you can't do on your Mini that is so needed? I just can't figure out why an Android OS would be that useful on a tablet for my needs. A phone, I can see, but my tablet usage is much more for browsing and media - which I feel the Mini does just fine.

The main thing is customizable options. Icon packs...layout densities...overlapping widgets...all stuff that you can't do w the iPad. Organizing apps and widgets how I want...not in a predetermined grid.Spooky wrote:DB - What is it that you feel you can't do on your Mini that is so needed? Emulators for all of the old school consoles.
Real Google integration without shitty half baked apps (Gmail, Hangouts, docs...all are sh*t compared to the android version as expected really).
If we are talking about media consumption...the 4:3 ratio is crap compared to true widescreen.
Shall I go on? Lol.

So what does the mini do so great that you're sticking with it? If the android OS gives you all that, what's the point of a mini? For the record I don't know anything about android (for the most part).dbdynsty25 wrote:The main thing is customizable options. Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
It's already Friday afternoon in this part of the world where the IPhone 6 was already launched earlier. As I was walking with my colleague to the hotel we stopped by the mobile phones mall in Mongkok where they have every single brand that you can think of, all being sold unlocked.
Had the chance to play with both 4'7 and 5'5 models and I was actually surprised at how big yet not totally intrusive the 6+ feels in your hand. I originally thought that I was going to move towards the bigger size but after comparing the 4'7 to my current HTC 8, I would say that the smaller size is the way to go while Samsung Note owners may be more familiar with the bigger + size.
White still looks cool although the darker grey was equally pleasant looking while the chics probably will dig for the gold model.
The black market was asking up to $3000 for the 128GB hoping that the the mainlanders would bite with their cash which is no object t them.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
The main reason I got the mini was because my employer only supports (supported) iOS as far as corporate email/calendar/sync went. That was until about a month ago. So now I'm just waiting for an LTE enabled Android tablet. There are very few of them out there right now and a couple of the big boys just released LTE versions (Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the Shield Tablet)...so those are on my radar...but with rumors of the 9" Nexus tablet coming out on the 16th of October...I'm just waiting until then.greggsand wrote:So what does the mini do so great that you're sticking with it? So the short answer is nothing really. Can't wait to get rid of it now that work supports Android.
I suppose if I had to pick a good reason to keep the Mini it would be apps. Obviously some apps are STILL better in iOS than they are in Android...not to mention the catalog is still quite a bit bigger (even a big game like OOTP baseball is only available on iOS)...so I guess that would be a reason to stay. But I won't.
