After some more play time, I am solidly in the buy camp. The only way that is enjoyable to me though is on Hardcore. Without this option, I would definitely not be buying. I played consecutive games on Simulation, and it felt much too arcadey. Besides that, and most frustrating is that I can outshoot the other team, but they score goals almost immediately when they have any kind of scoring opportunity. I'm seeing wristers, one timers, etc. They shoot them so fast I don't even see the puck off the stick or in the net. The goals feel much too cheap. Conversely, I had some great games on Hardcore, and even though I lost, it felt fair. It can still get chaotic, but the computer seems to make more errors, which seems more lifelike and organic. Great game.

My experience on All star has been cheap comeback ai goals when you're up at least by 2. You get a sense the cpu will score no matter what. I still don't like HC because it slows down the game. I think the default is best and I will mainly play this online. I played over 1000 1v1 games online for NHL 10, and this game reminds me of that game. That was a fun online game because there were ways to score which were not cheap, but at the same time you could counter then on defense. I hope this will be the same for this game.

I still dont get a next gen feeling with this game but that's what we're stuck with. Maybe next year they go madden 15 on us.

NHL 15 WILL NOT have Instant Replay Option. I always thought that was an easy mode. Guess not.

Source?

I saw a debate about this on the EA Forums, but then someone countered with this Twitter reply from Rammer (*urp* threw up a little there):

I've only played one game - Blues vs Hurricanes on AS defaults with 10 min periods, penalties all the way up (it's only 1 click up from default) hardcore mode and although the dynamic cameras are neat, I can't see the point with med and high is too high for my tastes so I'm back to classic. I also use authentic post whistle and puck size with small puck shadow because I'm old... lol...

Had a total of 5 penalties, first one was 1:30 into the game for tripping. I love what I saw, puck physics alone are worth it over 14, it's damn near perfect now. Skating is definitely different this year as I over skated so many times on defense. Game looks beautiful imho and the crowds, ice, players, presentation is just great. Commentary is also a breath of fresh air.

I'm seeing my 4th line used a lot more than any previous version, almost too much maybe, at least in key points in the game (I use auto lines and auto aim).

Goalies seem different and look very natural to me. Hitting is also NOT over the top anymore, I had a few knockdowns, but nothing like 14 where I could knock anyone over with Petro.

I only play BeaGM so I've already preordered and will start my Blues franchise next week when the game releases and another roster update is released.

Shot totals were 36-24 Carolina and that's only because I need to get used to the skating. I lost 4-3 but it was a fun game.

I also saw two injuries on two big hits, one to Carolina and one to Tarasenko of my Blues. Probably the only two really big hits of the game.

Oh and the passing % look way better for both teams.. 77% for Carolina I think and in 14 they were always in the high 80's. The puck seems to redirect all over the place, which is probably why I needed just a small shadow this time around.

Not only EASHL was omitted this year, but looks like other modes as well. If you are into BAGM, there's no drafting, no player editing. No AHL play, no seasons mode, no tourney mode, no shootouts, live the Life is also missing, can't play HUT with a friend.

Argh, not a good start for a next-gen hockey game.

But...to give them some credit, they will show the cracks of an aging building, the glass will show true scratches, banners are there, beer vendors, jerseys waving. Yeah it's in the game baby.

I don't think it would be trial version thing because it's supposed to be the full version.. but yes stripped down.

As long as I can sign/resign my players I'm fine with it. I never get to see my drafted players blossom because I play every game and usually only get about 3 seasons in.

It's actually still being updated:

Edit 1: No simming between shifts in Be A Pro Mode
Edit 2: No Custom Cameras
Edit 3: No Mobile Companion App for HUT
Edit 4: No HUT Action Tracker

Such a sad release for a great franchise. I'd hate to see it end, but they don't deserve the money.

I can completely understand people passing on the game because a preferred mode of play isn't in there like EASHL, but my biggest criticism of EA has been the core gameplay is neglected while every year they throw more and more modes and back-of-the-box features at us.

Now that they've been stripped away and the gameplay is actually improved, I will not complain. Honestly, I have bought NHL every year and there are several missing modes that I have never used, or never even knew existed.

And I can only chuckle how that post concludes with a lament that the Canes rink is one of only 2 that didn't make the game (they each had to licensed individually). Is it better to have no rinks, as the series always has, than to have 28 out of 30?

When you say no shootouts, you mean no shootout mode, or shootouts of any kind are not in the game?

What games modes ARE in the game?

Shootout mode. Now is it still there when the game is tied after OT? I want to say so but at this point who knows.

Makes me want to get the 360 version instead.

I had a shootout in the demo so that is still there.

Since I had a shootout in the demo, I thin it is safe to assume that shootouts are still in the game.

It does suck that tourney and Battle for the Cup modes are gone, though.

But honestly, I will play my single seasons through Be a GM and probably be happy. Along with that I will play some online Head to Head games with friends.

HUT is a frigging mess. I doubt I touch it, and it used to be my favorite mode. After the gobs and gobs of single player MUT modes in Madden 15, it is insane to see all of the single player tourneys taken out of HUT.

At this point, I will just play MUT, or I will just play FUT.

I may wait on NHL 15 until the sea on starts. This game deserves a big price cut. It really is a half finished game. At least they seemed to nail the gameplay down first.

360/ps3 version impressions from another site :

Here are the facts regarding NHL 15 on the Xbox 360. I have played it for 1 hour and everything is exactly the SAME. I thought I was playing NHL 14 again. The only differences i've noticed are the announcers and menu music.
- You don't see the announcers before the game
- There is no video segment of the home team city before the game
- The deking system is exactly the same. No improvements made to the 360 version
- The celebrations are the same.
Basically, every single thing is the same. Just thought you should know. If you don't have a next-gen console or you only like to play EASHL i recommend you continue playing NHL 14. It's clear no resources or time were put into the 360/ps3 versions.

me - the graphics look better on the 360 version than next gen. the colors are so much more vibrant.

I'll buy this game closer to the season. Or I'll buy it used off some poor soul who thought he was purchasing a complete game. EA should be ashamed for putting out a half baked game.

Here's what is missing:

Features and Modes
No GM Connected
No Online Team Play (when this is patched into the game later this year, it will use real NHL players and teams)
No EA Sports Hockey League
No EA Sports Arena
No Online Shootouts
No Live the Life
No Be A Legend
No Winter Classic
No tournaments or Battle for the Cup
No season mode (you can only play seasons in Be A GM, which is limited to NHL teams)
No NHL 94 Anniversary mode
No custom music support
No create-a-play designer
Cannot customize each team's AI
No create-a-team
No way to edit individual players
Practice mode is now limited to one skater vs. an AI goalie

Gameplay
No custom camera option
No Action Tracker replay highlights
No Top 3 Stars at the end of games.

Be A GM
Yearly draft is fully automated by the CPU
Cannot play the AHL games for your chosen franchise
Players sent down to the minors do not accumulate any season stats
No fantasy draft option
No preseason games
Be A Pro
No option to sim ahead to the next shift
You only play in the NHL; you cannot play for minor league teams
The Memorial Cup tryout period is gone. You now begin by picking an NHL team, or by letting a random CPU team draft you.
No All-Star game

Ultimate Team
Cannot play against your friends
No tournaments
No mobile app
All of the above features were available last year in NHL 14 for the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 but appear to be missing this year on the new-generation of consoles. If you have NHL 15 early access and have noticed any of these are actually in the game or if anything additional is missing let us know in the comments below.
