The controls are more or less the same, with the exception of an improved skill stick that eliminates the need hold down the X button (or A, on Xbox) in order to protect the puck. A lot of care was put into making the actions and reactions of the players appear more natural than the last game. Producer Sean Ramjagsingh told me that the AI in this game was built from the ground up. The result was a slightly sloppier -- but by that virtue, more realistic -- experience.

While in ’14, slap shots from in between the face-off circles and cross crease one-timer attempts were nearly automatic, ’15 places a premium on different tactics. Greatly improved puck physics and player movements (and collisions) now make it more possible to score tough, ugly goals. Ramjagsingh told me he frequents Xbox Live in order to get a feel for how gamers were consistently scoring, which helps him know what adjustments needed to be made for ’15. “We have this vision for how we want the game to play, and then we put it out there in the wild where people are just playing to win,” he told me. “I have to see online the ways that people are trying to ‘game the game.’”
I think we now have proof that Ramjag is actively out there trying to screw the Ice Dragons (and Diablo).
That miserable son of a b*tch! I knew it!! He probably kept notes on us. Prick probably works for the NSA!

You can slide into my left defense position. :(

PS How much longer do you guys think you'll be playing NHL14 as my Xbox Gold membership expires on July 25th and I'm trying to decide if I should renew it or not. :?:

If past history serves, we'll probably play this up until the night before 15 drops. So like, September 8th.

:(

The band will all get back together at some point Im sure.

I think Seven is spot on as to how long we will play Merace. We pretty much played to the bitter end last year.

Need to pry NHL OTP from me cold dead fingers :P

NOT good news for us defensemen.

It's tough enough to try and keep up and stop a deeking offenseman as it is in NHL 14. Is EA going to include defensive gameplay improvements to help counter the offensive gameplay improvements? :?:

Let those bastards try it on me...I'll go right thru them before the deke is completed :). Seriously, the best thing to do as a defenseman is have a controlled backward coast and just let them try and deke...don't gamble and keep them in front. You are still going to get beat at times but I believe most defenseman online gamble way too much. Of course, I could be wrong :D

Or go for the big hit and then sit in the box for 2 or 5 minutes and feel shame. :P

This, and a good use of the poke check to interrupt the deke will make players that have not thought out their plan of action pay. And then the EA forums will light up with complaints that the poke check is too strong.

There is no actual balance that will keep players happy, both sides want more power than the other will be comfortable with.

The key will be if EA makes it more likely for less skilled players to lose the puck when trying fancy demes, as well as weaker defensemen not able to break it up as easily. Of course, people will com pain if their guy fails every time, regardless of ratings.

I love the NHL series, but I get tired of the same back and forth every year. Even that wouldn't be bad, except that the devs change the freaking tuners every week in response to more people that are not comfortable just learning to play the game as it is. If you are losing the puck to poke checkers, skate better, don't enter the zone alone, and pass more. If guys are decking past you, learn to use the poke check, play less aggressively, and alter your strategies to keep more guys back.

What so many guys want are to use the ultra aggressive strategies all game long with no consequences. But there are, and it also drains energy more. Of course, that makes it worse because when they try to use players that are exhausted and can't move, they claim comeback code.

Hockey is hard because the action is always flowing, and it is harder to identify when it is your strategies not working instead of your skill. But the game is absolutely close enough that you can have fun playing and make hockey based decisions on how to adapt to your opponent. There will be less than realistic moments in all games, because it is a $60 game and not a $450 simulator.

The dekes look much refined and realistic. Having said that I doubt EA has given the tools for any D-man to counteract those fancy moves, sure anyone can make a big hit but in EASHL is it worth it to sit in the sin bin all the time?

Yep, and that's why I'm very judicious in handing out big hits to avoid time in the box. I'm also careful about using poke checks due to the many tripping calls that happen in the game too.

If EA does not include some defensive gameplay improvements then I believe you will see even more 8-2 scoring games.
