Yeah. At the end of Dishonored I had a feeling of "was this all there is?" Story just accelerated and ended quickly.RobVarak wrote:Bioshock is definitley heavier on the shooter element than Dishonored. If you're still more impressed by the story in Dishonored by the end, I'd be shocked. Gameplay is one thing, but the writing in BS is much more ambitious and subtle.pk500 wrote:
Magnificent game. I started the original Bioshock -- yeah, VERY late to that party -- tonight after Dishonored, and I'm far more impressed with Dishonored.

Re: OT: Dishonored
I'm talking mainly gameplay mechanics. There are so many different ways to skin the proverbial cat in Dishonored compared to the early stages of Bioshock.
Bioshock almost feels boring in comparison. But you're right: The writing and atmosphere of Bioshock almost feel like a Welles film at some points.

I wrote about the new story-based DLC;
http://maximumpixelation.com/2013/05/07 ... ll-dlc-pc/
I love it. But I also love the main game.
I had meant to write this sooner but after playing through the main game a second time I can understand why this game my irk some people from a gameplay standpoint - particularly if you're not playing on the PC. The game does a crap job of letting you know when you're visible to guards. Yes, there are the 3 lightning indicators above a guard's head when he does see you but it's so clunky compared to something like Far Cry 3 that easily shows when you're invisible. Because of that, since the game tends to encourage you to play in a stealth-like manner, I can see people getting really frustrated when they're caught/detected with little notice beforehand.
For me, this wasn't such a big deal because I'd do one of two things - since I was on the PC I could just instant quick-save/quick-load if I was detected and at other times I'd just Blink the hell out of there and start hiding again.
For me though, I thought those were minor quibbles because, like PK said, there are so many options to the combat. The levels and missions themselves also have numerous paths and goals - I love not just the lethal vs. non-lethal options to assassinations but also the side missions/quests that you can totally miss. 'Lady Boyle's Last Party' is a masterpiece in mission design IMO.
I'm a bit obtuse so I didn't see the 'twist' coming in the main story but I love the world and the background fiction. It also doesn't hurt that the game, on the PC at least, looks like a watercolor painting.

Re: OT: Dishonored
My expectations were high and I am not enjoying this game much. I've been playing stealth so its a lot of trial and error avoiding fixed patrol routes which gets to be a chore. I've had more fun with other stealth games. I am on the next to last mission and I wish could reinvest my powers to try more killing options to finish the game.
I was looking forward to the Boyle mission, but I must've got lucky. All I had to do was bring someone a drink and was told exactly who my victim was. Then I was walking all around the mansion with my blood soaked knife and no one seemed to notice.
I continued on since I thought I was close to the end and I want the 100 points for finishing the game. Those last two missions are long. I started taking a more violent approach in some areas and was enjoying it a bit more. I may even go back towards the beginning of the game so I can try some of the powers I skipped over.

You can save anytime on console too, or I would have never made it far playing stealth. That and running away or reaching a map loading zone, which completely foils the AI.Macca00 wrote:For me, this wasn't such a big deal because I'd do one of two things - since I was on the PC I could just instant quick-save/quick-load if I was detected and at other times I'd just Blink the hell out of there and start hiding again.

Just downloaded this one for about $6.50 on XBL. I never played it, and haven't yet. Looking forward to digging into it possibly tonight.

Dishonored is my favorite game of any genre on the 360. Loved it. Finished it.
