Shows how much of a gap there is between these two and Brasil

Overwhelming ball possession in favor of the Germans. That's expected. But Argentna still looks solid defensively and could be fatal if they execute better on the counterattack, twice, one by Messi and the other one by Higuain not countng the offsides.
Di Maria and Aguero could play in the second half.

Argentina have had the better chances so far.10spro wrote:Overwhelming ball possession in favor of the Germans. That's expected. How's that a foul on Higuain against Neuer? On the contrary, that should have been a penalty kick for the Blues. Brutal call.
Let's go Argentina.

The level of technical skill of both teams is fantastic. Love the Argentines close control.

Hope we get a winner before pks.

Palacio....cmon man!
Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
Pks are bullshit way of settling the final - they should go with a replay if it's still a draw after extra time.

Argentina had their chances but didn't put them away.
Not a big fan of Germany but they were credit for the win and worthy champions.

Agree. Germany was the team of the tournament.dougb wrote:Argentina had their chances but didn't put them away.

Still feel bad for Argentina. They played so well. Maybe a Di Maria away?
Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
I am not going to cry about the result. Damn proud of the boys, that wall that seemed so invulnerable just gave way to Goetze. I do lament the chances we missed in the first, the Messi miss in the second, palacios all alone. And the no call penalty on Neuer? Those are things that happen in a footie pitch.
Germany had great ball possession but Argentina had the better chances to score. You only need one goal to win these type of matches.
The boys gave it all, Mascherano again, the solid blueline. Messi clearly missed his companion in Di Maria and was shut down pretty much the last two games. Still he had a brilliant chance early in the second half. One that he usually never misses.
This is tough to swallow now, but gratz to the Germans.
Sweinsteigger was a monster for them.

The big names for Argentina like Aguero, Higuain and di Maria didn't do much. Palacios didn't bring anything.
And in fact, Messi didn't do much after group.
Is it because they all play for different clubs with different styles? Do the Germans have an advantage with many of them playing for Munich?

Yeah lets blame messi.
He is the reason they are there. Unreal.
You should be proud of your boys 10s. They did great to get to extra time of the final!

Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
It's pretty appalling that they couldn't manage to find a way to create consistent chances in the knockout stages with the talent that they have upfront. To me it was pretty clear that they still, after all these years, all the discussion and all the analysis, haven't figured out how to really utilize Messi.10spro wrote: Messi clearly missed his companion in Di Maria and was shut down pretty much the last two games. Dozens of times in these games, they just knock the ball to him somewhere 40 yards upfield and stand around to watch him beat people. Nobody makes runs and when they do they're poor. He compounds the problem by dropping progressively deeper, which makes him less dangerous. Given the way he draws defenses, he really needs outlets close to him to work combinations with, a la Xavi and Iniesta. It's a real shame to see him wasted on such a grand stage.

Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
He wasnt the best player this world cup not even close . Two players on his own team where better Zabaletta and Macherano.
Muller was better. Lahm. Rodriguez maybe, a sentimental pick.

That was a clear penalty kick, where my buddies and I just got up in disgust protesting. How could the ref miss that! Better yet, he called it on Higuain.XXXIV wrote:Damn that hurt...Have to agree with Argentina. What a terrible call.
Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
Higuain did put his head in the way of an out of control goal keeper so of course he must be called.10spro wrote:That was a clear penalty kick, where my buddies and I just got up in disgust protesting.
