I thought it was excellent and had me rivited from the gitgo. Looks like another
stellar series from HBO. Can't wait for next week's episode already!
Recorded it but debating whether I want to try and read the book first. Looks really interesting.
What's the name of the book? The premise of the story is very intriguing. Probably a great read.
The opening episode was really good. Surprised more haven't seen it yet. Reminded me a little of "True Detective" mixed with "Lost".
It's that good.
Brando70 wrote:Louie has usurped even Game of Thrones as my favorite TV show now, and my favorite in a long time. He did a 90-minute episode where he catches his daughter smoking pot, and that triggers a flashback to his teenage days. Brilliant writing and performances from everyone, and he manages to keep things surprising from episode to episode. I hope it won't be two years until another season.
Also, if you nerds haven't been watching Orphan Black, you are missing out. Get caught up before the third season, it's worth it.
Love his standup. Gotta catch up on the episodes I missed of this.
I'm sure many will disagree with me, and don't get me wrong, I really love GoT. But it's a big, melodramatic cheeseburger of entertainment. Louie is unlike anything else I've watched on TV: funny, original, and not afraid to be uncomfortable when it suits the story. Once I got into watching it on Netflix, I couldn't watch fewer than 2-3 episodes in a sitting because I liked it so much.
Agree 1,000 percent with Brando. "Louie" is the most unique, poignant and sometimes uncomfortable show on TV. Nothing else like it.
"Louie" is suffering from critical backlash because some critics and fans said this season is "less funny" than prior seasons. They're missing the point: "Louie" isn't supposed to be a sitcom. It's a commentary on life, mixed with equal parts comedy, sadness, revulsion and a ton of introspection by Louis C.K. that in turn should cause anyone who watches it -- especially those in his age group, like me -- to do the same.
My brother is 59 and a sharp cat. He tried to watch "Louie" because he loves Louis C.K. as a comedian. He didn't like "Louie" because he thought it wasn't funny. He expected the show to simply be an extension of "Seinfeld" in which Louis C.K. takes his stage act and plays it out in a unique and brilliant sitcom filled with off-beat characters.
That's not what "Louie" is about. It never was intended to be that.

starting to get notices of copyright infringement again, anyone have any ideas on how to not get those from my ISP when I download something via torrent?? I thought Peerguardian used to work, but I guess not anymore.
If you guys aren't watching Halt and Catch Fire on AMC you're missing out. Loosely based on the 80s computer boom...it's fantastic drama w/ some damn fine acting, especially from Lee Pace (the main character). Check it out if you haven't already.

Agree. The first winner for me on AMC since the debut of "Breaking Bad." This is an excellent, compelling show. Pace destroys every scene he's in.

Joe is not a likable character but then neither is Don Draper.
"Breaking Bad" never reached mass appeal until about Season 4. This show is good enough that I think AMC will give it time to gain popularity. The arrival of Season 1 on Netflix will help, as I think word of mouth will help this series, er, catch fire.

The wife and I recently just started watching the Netflix original "Orange is the New Black" and we are totally hooked. We're only 4 episodes in so no spoilers please. This is a binge watch type of show. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about it. It's got a fairly good amount of suspense, comedy, and drama all mixed in to one. Jason Biggs (American Pie fame), Taylor Schilling (a mix of cute and hotness), Michelle Hurst, Pablo Schreiber (pornstache), Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, are just some of the great characters on the show.

Can't believe more aren't talking about "The Leftovers". This is a compelling and dark show in the same vein as True Detective.
Really been enjoying it so far. Only 3 episodes in, so plenty of time to hop on

Jack, I'm liking it as well. I feel like I need to go back and see things I might have missed.
I might need a Really Terrible TV Thread, because I can't stop watching Under the Dome. It is easily the worst TV show to ever get a second season. There is not a single redeeming perfmonace or aspect to this show, but I can't stop watching to see how dumb it will get. And it outdoes itself every week.

I watched the first season with the thought it was going to be a one season deal to tell the story of the book which I have not read and was disappointed to see them go with a second season but I too still watch it every week anyway as I have to see how the story ends.

People are wary because it was created by the same guy who finished up Lost.
The third episode is character-centric, like the ones you saw from Lost. Lets see if he overplays that tactic again.

Just go to Wikipedia & read how the book ends. You'll probably be fully motivated to bail ( if you're looking for a reason)...

The first episode of Extant last week was entertaining and interesting enough to make me want to watch some more. Another SciFi conspiracy story with Halle Berry in her first TV role.

Oh, I read the book, which I thought was great, right up until that terrible ending.
The TV show has nearly nothing to do with the book at this point. It would be unfair to say that they are using a Walking Dead approach, because that would assume some logic behind their deviations. UtD seems like random stupidity. But they sort of get a pass because Stephen King has written both premieres. So he is the one just crapping all over his book.
The best Stephen King translations to the big or little screen have not had any input from him at all.
But really, I'm hate watching at this point, and enjoying it quite a bit.
