Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
I was surprised by how poor Brazil's midfield was for major portions of the game. Brazil have been. A shadow of their old selves for some time now. Watch the 82 team and wonder, apart from Neymar, who would get a run out in that squad?

Yeah, but 'Australian Rules Football' doesn't count.Zeppo wrote:Surely you don't mean to forget Tim Cahill's wonder volley, do you?10spro wrote:Along Van Persie's header vs Spain and Messi's free kick against Nigeria, goals of the tournament so far.

Heck, I must as well include his beauty against Bosnia Herzegovina then. Good call.Macca00 wrote:Speaking of Messi - James, we know he's your boy but that FK against Nigeria wasn't anything special. Now his goal against Iran, now that was a stunner.

I really hope Liverpool make a good bid for Alexi Sanchez hes class not a bad replacement for Nosferatu!!
Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
Exactly what I was thinking as I watched. The 82 team had any number of players who could do amazing things and this team seems to have only one.dougb wrote:I was surprised by how poor Brazil's midfield was for major portions of the game. Joga Bonito has gone from the Brazilian game, its much more European style now isnt that why Dunga got fired? Maybe we see now he didnt have much choice.
We only see that Brazilian flare in very short spells now and its not much different to any other Team. Maybe these little bits of brilliance are just all over the place in teams nowadays.
Gone are the days where a Pele step over Dummy to himself or the Cruyff turn amazed us i think its just all been done before.

México has looked more dangerous so far even though the Dutch are controlling the midfield. So damn hot over there, how Fifa expects the game to shine in Qatar is beyond me.

Indoor Green houses... I mean Stadiums of course air conditioned to a nice 65. Of course all Stadiums will be built on a sand island dumped into the ocean in the shape of a palm tree . all 12 stadiums will be within walking distance of each other.

No, just the commentators. Why does Espn feel its a good idea to have crews which may have a tendency to lean towards one team over another.
Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
Robbin might have got the call if he didn't have such a reputation for diving.

The crowd whistling like every Dutch player is PK Subban.
Re: World Cup 2014 Thread
It should lift their spirits, it works for PK, the noisier it is, the better he plays...XXXIV wrote:The crowd whistling like every Dutch player is PK Subban.

Just brutal conditions out there - should have scheduled night games tv rights be damned. Of course that would have meant less $ for the FIFA heads to stuff into their pockets...XXXIV wrote:That almost ripped his hands off.10spro wrote:Oh choa baby...

Quite the game - can't believe that they might have to play 30 more in those conditions.

Such a great game ruined by a terrible call.
Ref was letting them play. Why call that.
