Lost a Friend and Soldier

Post by Diablo25 »

It's been a pretty brutal few days. A former student of mine and West Point grad in ’07 was killed in action on Monday. His name was Jason Jones and he was 29. He was special forces (Green Beret) and was as great a person as you can imagine. He was married only last June. I've known his family quite a long time and they are, obviously, devastated. He was killed by small arms fire in Jalalabad Afghanistan. The feeling of loss is unbelievable. I cannot imagine what his wife and family are going through. His remains arrived in Dover yesterday. I'll be attending services on Saturday. The future Jason had was so bright. It just doesn't make sense.

Bill:

Sorry for your loss, man. Jason made the ultimate sacrifice, which is unbelievably honorable. I hope that provides some measure of solace to you, his family and all who knew him.

I returned from Jason's service a little while ago. It was a tough experience. I told his father I'm a better person for knowing him. Incredible family. The community and veteran support at the ceremony was second to none. I'm damn proud to have known Caption Jason Jones.

Capt. Jason Jones made his final trip through his/my home town today. His motorcade drove under the American Flag pictured below. My hometown has about 3000 residents. It seemed like the majority of those were at center square today to witness Jason being escorted through town one last time. It was very somber when his casket finally made its way through town. His father acknowledged the community support before entering a car to go bury his son at West Point. I have always been a supporter of our military and the heroes that fight for our country. This heartbreaking incident has only solidified my feelings for the brave, selfless men and women who voluntarily protect us. Jason's family has constantly been in my thoughts.

Rest easy my friend - I am a better person for knowing you.
