ICR 2005 Frusterations and Help
Hey, I found this forum by searching Gamefaqs. Let me give a little background. I'm 24, been sim racing since Indycar 500 on PC. Played Indycar Racing I, II, Nascar Racing series from Papy/Sierra, GPL, and every good console game I could get my hands on.
First let me say I am really enjoying the feel of ICR2005 for the most part and it's fun racing. I'd love to race online but out in the boonies in East Tennessee were yet to see cable modems or anything but crappy 56k connections.
My frusteration comes from TRYING to start a championship season. Homestead is full of bugs it seems. I was racing yesterday, I set my race length to quarter distance. Qualified fifth, worked my way into the lead and by lap 22 or so I had over a 3 second lead. Someone in the pack behind me crashes, minor incident, and caution comes out. I was within a couple of laps for pitting for fuel anyway. I come around and 2 laps later I hear "pit when they are open" and it lets me pit. But it only allows me to put 2 laps worth of gas in the car and not change tires. I do this for about 15-17 laps, pitting every couple of laps to see if it lets me put more gas in the car. Never does. Well, after one pit stop I come out and hear "the pits are open" but the green flag waves as I'm coming down the backstretch. I need gas so I go around one lap under green and then pit, and guess what, it allows me to put as much gas in the car as I want and to change the tires. Crap, cost me the win, and I finished fifth somehow. That's just pure frusteration.
Now for the help. I've been looking at the setups on here and trying them out. I'm at Phoenix and I cannot for the life of me run more than 5 laps without looping the car during the race. I always spin in turn one. I get into the corner, the car pushes up a little, and then it breaks loose. I don't know what to do. I've been messing with the setup but to no avail. I don't have a wheel, I'm using the standard XBox controller. Any help will be appreciated.

1st off, there are 4 or 5 other freakin threads about ICS already here on the front page....check em out.....this isn't the Gamefaqs ICS Board
2nd...Make sure on a caution you put your fuel mixtyre at 0....it will save your gas
3rd....you need to wait till the pits open.....there is a little "c" on the left side of your steering wheel that shows they are closed....after all the cars get lined up behgind the pace car...which takes a few laps...the pis will open.
4th....can't help you at Phoenix....that is my next race
5th....race on full length...you can save the race during each opit stop so you don't have to sit through the whole thing at once.
Welcome to DSP

Pigpen, thanks for taking time out to answer the thread. I realize this isn't the Gamefaqs ICR board, happens that board is pretty much dead and I figured I could get some better help on this board. I also read through some of the ICR threads on this board and I didn't see anything exactly like I had experienced so that's why I posted in this new topic. I realize I can set the fuel mix to zero to prolong my laps as well. Actually, I'd go 3-5 laps at a time without pitting then dart back in to get more gas and see if it let me actually get more fuel and tires.
I didn't know about the little c, I will look for that next time. Still can't figure out why the pits are closed and it lets me and all the other cars pit though, just not fuel up. The AI was doing the same thing I was. They would come in every couple of laps and pit, all of them.
Don't mean to sound smart, I was just here asking a question, I was directed to this board. I at least try to say exactly what my problem is and give as much info as I can insead of the usual "This game suxxxx. Got mad bugz galor. Itz tooooo hard....etc" I do thank anyone that does help me out, I just thought I'd give this board a shot.

DD,
The game lets you return to the pit when it is closed only to fix damage and take on enough fuel not to run out of gas. If you are the lead car your primary responsibility is to get up behind that pace car as soon as safely possible. The pits will not open until the leader gets in line and then the others will line up quickly behind you after that. Usually the pits will open one lap before you go green (sometimes 2). If you are not the leader then get up behind the car you are supposed to follow as soon as possible.
Unless you are damaged or going to run out of fuel on the next lap don't bother pitting until your spotter says "Pits are now open".
The way the caution works is not a bug like many people think, we drivers just need to understand the Indy rules used in this game.

Thanks for that info. I guess it just threw me for a loop. I hear the "pit when they are open" and then the box comes up to pit so I did and I guess I should have set the mix to zero and I would have had about 5 laps to play with. Now I know what's going on, it seemed like a bug to me and it was very frusterating. Now I feel much better about everything, I may even restart the season and do that race again. I'm having a ton of fun with this as it at least has a great feel to the game and is challenging unlike the stuff EA has put out on the consoles in the Nascar world.

Ratings system
I got this from the Codemasters Forum .
"
Rating system explaination
Here comes the science...
The track ranking and driver rankings are independent.
The driver rankings are related to finished positions in races and all competitive races count ( as long as a player is logged on to XBox Live).
Track rankings ( speeds) are 1/3 best lap 1/3 worst lap in last 10 laps and 1/3 'rolling average of all laps'.
Not all laps are counted because this would be unfair ( for example caution laps).
The driver ratings are all 0-10,000.
Depending upon your current rating relative to the other drivers, you will get an expected position, depending how well you do compared to your expected position, you either gain or lose points.
This is all lumped together to give an overall rating- which goes (worst to best)
Mechanic
Chief Mechanic
Rookie
Rookie Veteran
Veteran
Pro
Super Pro
Indy Pro
Indy Legend
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK- That's all you're getting. Don;t wabt to give too much away, lest it play into the hands of the rating-grabbers

MASTERCLASS - Qualifacation
I'm having trouble with the Qualification test on Masterclass.
Is there a way to tune the car they give you? I can barely get a 223 with that car and you need at least a 226 for bronze.
Thanks for the help.
