From The Show thread, but since it would be OT there I'll respond here.

My suspicion is that is the reason GT6 is PS3 only and Forza 5 still lacks Nürburgring. The amount of space these tracks and cars will take up on the disc and the time it takes to load them made them a bad idea to launch with. Microsoft decided to launch Forza 5 with limited tracks and cars, and Sony opted to avoid next gen altogether.
In the end, once everything is loaded, people will appreciate the next gen games and come to accept the sizes. How many gigs is The Show? I wonder how long Wolfenstein will take to load?
The install thing is pretty damn ridiculous. It took about 45 minutes for The Show, and I remember Battlefield 4 was really long because of both the install and a 2 gig update that was out by the time I got the game. Big picture, it's no big deal as it's a one-time thing, but annoying when you get home and have time for a nap while you wait for a game to install.
I can see why people love digital, but I am glad we're not in a digital-only gaming world yet. I can drive to the store and back with a new game in half the time it takes to download a game, especially on launch day. Time and again MS, Sony, and developers have shown that their digital bandwidth cannot match online demand on launch day. Unless I'm getting a deal, there's no reason for me to get a digital copy over a physical one.

I hate this install bs. Big downside to next gen.
Because optical discs are VERY slow compared to hard drives. The prettier the graphics, the more complex the AI, the larger the game's data footprint will be. If a game has to load gigabytes of data between levels it could take several minutes to load. Imagine having to wait 5 to 10 minutes before every game you play in The Show. If you install all the data to the hard drive it will load much much faster. Games have simply gotten too large to be loaded from optical drives anymore.
MS and Sony didn't change things just to piss you off.

The Show is 42GB on my PS4. Several gigs for the Red Sox beards, probably.
I think the deal with the racing games is business related, not technical. In the case of GT6,a very bad one.

I have to say I see very minimal visual improvement over the PS3 version IMO and I agree the beards look terrible. I'm not sure what is in here that took and extra month, except maybe hoping to get people to double dip on the purchase. This is why I won't re-purchase Last of Us even if it is visually better, the game looked outstanding on the PS3 so what's the point.

The crowds and stadiums look significantly better...so there's that.

Agree on the crowds and stadium. The stadiums in particular. There used to be so much pixelation and now it looks so clean. The crowds I don't care as much about but they're improved. The player models though have not changed from what I can tell. Some of the faces are spot on (i.e. Wainwright) but others are so off. Hopefully next year they'll concentrate on improving the player models and revamping the commentary. All in all, it's still a very solid game but not a huge step up from the PS3.
I agree, and it basically what I posting on the last page. I don't think a disc less option really makes sense right now, as the author mentions. I don't know why he even brought it up. For the gamers that Microsoft is trying to attract now, forcing them into 100% digital download is not going to help.
I like the Kinect, but at this point, it has failed to motivate customers. There are a ton of 360 users that have not jumped to either console yet, and they are most likely not fans of Kinect, or they probably would have jumped already. It's a huge reason why I did, because I use it everyday, and making it a bigger part of my TV watching was a value add for me. So Microsoft could drop the Kinect and regain their North American base that are sitting out so far. They have lost a chunk to Sony over the crappy launch, but this is still pretty early in the generation.
I would argue that the UI works just fine without Kinect. While they made the Kinect a great way to move around easier and quicker, if I have a controller in my hand, I still use it to move around 90% of the time. Mostly, as a media controller, the Kinect is great. Microsoft could probably still sell them at $100 a pop if folks want it. On top of this, they need to drop the pay wall for all of their media apps.
But they need to drop the price with Kinect to $400, and $350 without (I predict they will go $400/$450, but that is not enough to change the tide). That helps drive a larger install base for devs, while still giving gamers the ability to opt out. At that point Microsoft will probably maintain a decent 50/50 split of the market with Sony. Maybe. It really depends on Microsoft continuing to own a better library of games.
Also, Microsoft could secure their 360 base by simply making all 360 digital content backwards compatible. It might mean making all 360 games backwards compatible, but if you told 360 users that they would have instant access to their library of digital games, that would be a nice incentive to stick around. Microsoft seems to be floating it, but this is more in the realm of speculation and rumor. It would be worth their effort, though.
I feel like they read my post. The last suggestion was pie in the sky, but everything else was just adopted. And the price isn't going to change the tide significantly, but I suspect we will see 4399 plus a game or other kinds of deals. Basically, they have given their 360 base a reason to come back. Now it depends on how much damage has been done with so many jumping on the PS4 so early. Because it can be an awesome deal and all, but for you guys, if everyone is playing NHL 15 on a PS4, it can't make sense to get a One.
Now that the Kinect is going to be another add-on/peripheral and not something developers can guarantee is with every console I guess we can say goodbye to any notion that we'll see innovative or even mildly interesting uses of the Kinect in the future.
First the 180 on DRM and now dropping Kinect, how bloody reactionary are Microsoft? I know it's getting outsold by the PS4 but I believe (correct me if I'm wrong, because I very well could be) it's outselling the 360 at the equivalent point in its life cycle). It's also still THE SAME price as the PS4 despite having less powerful hardware and now no Kinect to differentiate it from being 'just another console'.

This is why I think they needed to go lower.
But the truth is, there is nothing coming games wise for the Kinect. It already failed to inspire developers. It's still a great add-on if you want the features it has for controlling your console, streaming media, and TV. But if someone was excited about that, they would have a One already.

Yeah and it's a big FU to people who already purchased, you've just pissed them off. I'm going to try and sell mine and be done with the XB1.

Microsoft still doesn't get it. Removing the kinect and then a price point of $399 to match sony can't be nearly enough. They've just pissed off a legion of Xbone early adopters. They need to do much more than remove Kinect and sell it for $399. That's what they should have done from the beginning...give customers an option.
I've got two PS4's in my house and I was an xbox/live customer from the beginning and this still isn't enough to get me to bite at this point. Give me $299 digital only option and I'd buy one tomorrow.
