Re: The really great TV thread

So I discovered Orphan Black on Amazon Prime streaming this weekend and binge watched all 10 episodes of season 1 in one sitting. I think it's one of the better shows I've seen in a while. of course it is BBC America which is why.

2nd episode of Resurrection was actually better than the 2nd episode of Believe which was surprising but then again when has NBC ever done a good serial drama? I liked the first episode of Crisis but it reminded me of a James Patterson novel.

I know there is not a big Walking Dead fan base here but last nights episode was disturbing.

Walking Dead is the only show on TV that leaves me speechless with my mouth hanging to the floor. They've done it twice already this season.

And since this is the "really great TV thread", anyone watching Cosmos? It is truly capturing the spirit of the original I remember watching as a kid, inspiring me about the universe. The first episode with Tyson's tribute to Carl Sagan was incredibly touching.

Yes (see one page back). I didn't enjoy the evolution themed second episode quite as much as the first episode which was more focused on space and the universe. Still it was something to be reminded about how we are all made up of the same stuff; atoms, molocules, DNA. I'll definitely be sticking with the series.

Orphan Black is fantastic. Tatiana Maslany is so good playing all those characters, and I love how they are able to mix in some lighter comedic moments with serious storyline. Plus every show is better with Max Headroom in it. :D

Don Draper on a dating game show from 1996. An evening of total fabulosity.

24 was back on tonight.

Thought the first hour was good, but the 2nd hour was a bit repetitive. Maybe they should have not come back.

Four episodes in and no Mad Men chatter yet?

The first two episodes perhaps didn't merit much discussion, but next two were great with the new dynamic at Sterling Cooper. Not really feeling the LA office with Peter and Ted. Peter needs to come back to NY.

I think it's been excellent. Two absolutely jaw-dropping moments. The deadpan look that Don shot at Peggy as she gave him his marching orders and the entire diner scene with Don and Sally.

The show is very much way out in uncharted territory at this point. Nothing has ever been written for television like this before, even the Sopranos, and it's fascinating to see the final pieces falling into place.

People have come to take it for granted.

It seems like Don was revisiting old ground in the last season, with his cheating and drinking.

But that set the stage for the great conversation in the car with Sally in the first episode.

Don could go anywhere but is willing to eat a lot of s*** to come back to the agency, where he isn't accepted, at least not yet.

What does it say about him? He was initially set up in the series as this debonair guy, a seeming alpha male. Maybe Weiner's goal is to show the frailty behind that take-charge facade.

I thought 24 was good, two hours went by really fast. For me Mad Men got of to a slow start watching unemployed Don in the first couple of episodes, has picked up the last couple of episodes, best thing to see so far has been Pete's real estate girlfriend.

I thought 24 was great, it's the same show it always was. My complaint of 24 was it went on too long. 12 episodes will fix that. If you weren't a fan before then no sense watching now.

The first two episodes of "Louie" were just brilliant. The poker table conversation in "Back" had me pausing the DVR so I wouldn't laugh over the jokes, and then he turns around in "Model" and delivers a performance of him bombing that was so perfectly painful. There's really nothing else like it on TV.

Tonight's Mad Men was just stellar, among the best episodes of television I've ever seen.

If the modern era of TV making is doing one thing right, it's giving show runners the chance to put a real ending on their stories. Writers like Gilligan and Weiner are clearly taking advantage of the luxury.

Did anyone else catch the opener for the new HBO series "The Leftovers" last night?
I thought it was excellent and had me rivited from the gitgo. Looks like another
stellar series from HBO. Can't wait for next week's episode already!

My favorite (and only) summer TV is America's Got Talent. I love the variety: music, magic, dance, acrobats, strength acts, comedy, etc. The show got even better with the Judge's panel the past two years. Stern, Mandel, Heidi and Mel B play off each other very well.

Louie has usurped even Game of Thrones as my favorite TV show now, and my favorite in a long time. He did a 90-minute episode where he catches his daughter smoking pot, and that triggers a flashback to his teenage days. Brilliant writing and performances from everyone, and he manages to keep things surprising from episode to episode. I hope it won't be two years until another season.

Also, if you nerds haven't been watching Orphan Black, you are missing out. Get caught up before the third season, it's worth it.
