Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
I think our only hope right now is Everton take a point or more next week. oh the irony of that. Bitter blues.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
Liverpool bandwagon seems lighter this morning.
If Liverpool wins out they need city to lose or tie to win it?
What about Chelsea?

Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
I didnt see the game today. It was on like 4am/5am here. No way I'm getting up that early to watch a team I have semi-bandwagon interest in.
Looks like Liverpool and Chelsea have 2 easy games left. City has Everton which may be the only challenge they may get.

Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
Latest rumor: Moyes to Tyneside to manage Newcastle next season.
Owner Fat Mike Ashley made a big run at Moyes when he was at Everton and is a huge admirer. Plus Ashley reportedly is disgusted with the antics of current manager Alan Pardew and the inept performance of Newcastle United since New Year's. Only Cardiff City has earned fewer points in the Premier League since Jan. 1 than Newcastle.
Moyes could be a steady hand at St. James' Park. He specializes in keeping clubs with small budgets in the mid-table or slightly higher. Might be a good fit.

Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
Looks like Bayern made the wrong move on the managerial front, eh? ouch.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
Maybe, though I think blaming Guardiola is a bit of a self-serving option for those who think last year's Bayern would have won. I'm not sure that's true. I'm no Real Madrid fan but the team has really peaked at the right time and right now look quite a bit stronger than Bayern did last year, at least to me. It's a big team physically, not easily bullied around like Barca were last year, and the power and speed on the break with Ronaldo, Bale and Di Maria is stunning. Bit surprising though that they were so dominant from corners.fsquid wrote:Looks like Bayern made the wrong move on the managerial front, eh? ouch.
And what about Atleti! Simeone has done a great job there. They were a class above Chelsea over the two legs. Really hope they win this now.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
I think Atletico will surprise in the finals. And yes Simeone has done a fantastic job.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
Real's pace was definitely something that Bayern could not handle.rhymes450 wrote:Maybe, though I think blaming Guardiola is a bit of a self-serving option for those who think last year's Bayern would have won. A whacko BPL season to say the least, Man City is in control again. Dzeko comes out big.

I'm just glad he's ok after that terrifying injury he "suffered" near the end of full time.

The guy falls down on his own and acts like somebody stabbed him in the face. Then lays there for what 5 minutes? Credit to the ref calling the idiot out. Though I think a red would have been better than the yellow.
What a class guy.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
The Spanish league has gone a bit crazy in the last 24 hours with all three title contenders slipping up. Barca looked dead and buried this morning but now they might be in a good position to avail of Real and Atletico's European ambitions.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
Exciting stuff there too for sure. Maybe Atletico had a little let down after their big win in the CL and took Levante for granted, that early auto goal from Felipe sank them early.rhymes450 wrote:The Spanish league has gone a bit crazy in the last 24 hours with all three title contenders slipping up. The late goal by Ronaldo keeps Real's chances also alive.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
well there is your choke job for the year 3 goal lead gone in 11 minutes.

Glad I couldnt watch it!
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2013/14
Well I did. Once 3 up you could tell that their confidence was up and were going for a touchdown or more. They forgot completely about how fragile their D was and with the opportunist subs by Pulis, Palace turned the game around.XXXIV wrote:fsquid wrote:well there is your choke job for the year 3 goal lead gone in 11 minutes.![]()

I'm speaking as a Cubs fan here, so I know whereof I speak. That was just an epic gut punch. Istanbul in reverse and condensed. I wish I were in the stands in London balling my eyes out instead of here trying to keep it together in front of the kids.
Enormous credit needs to be given to Palace and their amazing crowd for busting their asses for the sake of the game itself. Incredibly showing by them.

Do not even dare bring up the cubs here. Cubs own choking in their own special way.
Such a weird season. I bet the man city game we will find to be unconventional as well
Whoevers on top seems like they don't want it.
Chelsea loss so much bigger now.
Too bad Surez is in Liverpool. It would be easier to root for them.
