The console was designed and built around Kinect 2.0. It is central to the experience and the prime difference between it and the competitor.(That, and the lower spec hardware and media apps hidden behind a paywall).vader29 wrote:I've noticed over the last few weeks that my local Wal-Mart has had PS4's available on a regular basis and just this week both the Xbox One Titanfall and Forza bundles that were selling for $450 are all sold out. Has to make you wonder with the original Kinect on the 360 costing $150 at launch that a Kinectless Xbone could have taken at least that much off the original selling price and they wouldn't have fallen behind, will be interesting to see if the price drops even more in the coming months.

Picking up a 2nd PS4 here later this week. Pretty easy decision for me at this point and I would have never guessed that me and my sons wouldn't be Xbox owners again this generaton but for now we are rollin with Sony.

Same here. I was the most ardent supporter of XB360. Going into this, never for once thought I would have gone over to Sony and not even consider owning XBO.
I am sure there are thousands like us out there. Really amazing how totally MS effed this up.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I'm sure Sony is ecstatic that their are XB1 accessories on their shelf space.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I agree, and it basically what I posting on the last page. I don't think a disc less option really makes sense right now, as the author mentions. I don't know why he even brought it up. For the gamers that Microsoft is trying to attract now, forcing them into 100% digital download is not going to help.
I like the Kinect, but at this point, it has failed to motivate customers. There are a ton of 360 users that have not jumped to either console yet, and they are most likely not fans of Kinect, or they probably would have jumped already. It's a huge reason why I did, because I use it everyday, and making it a bigger part of my TV watching was a value add for me. So Microsoft could drop the Kinect and regain their North American base that are sitting out so far. They have lost a chunk to Sony over the crappy launch, but this is still pretty early in the generation.
I would argue that the UI works just fine without Kinect. While they made the Kinect a great way to move around easier and quicker, if I have a controller in my hand, I still use it to move around 90% of the time. Mostly, as a media controller, the Kinect is great. Microsoft could probably still sell them at $100 a pop if folks want it. On top of this, they need to drop the pay wall for all of their media apps.
But they need to drop the price with Kinect to $400, and $350 without (I predict they will go $400/$450, but that is not enough to change the tide). That helps drive a larger install base for devs, while still giving gamers the ability to opt out. At that point Microsoft will probably maintain a decent 50/50 split of the market with Sony. Maybe. It really depends on Microsoft continuing to own a better library of games.
Also, Microsoft could secure their 360 base by simply making all 360 digital content backwards compatible. It might mean making all 360 games backwards compatible, but if you told 360 users that they would have instant access to their library of digital games, that would be a nice incentive to stick around. Microsoft seems to be floating it, but this is more in the realm of speculation and rumor. It would be worth their effort, though.

Here is a crazy question.
Both systems will live through the generation and both will be supported for years to come ..Why does it mater to you how many each company sells?
Seriously? Why does it matter to you?

Mostly because I don't your assumption holds for the XB1 automatically. I don't care who "wins.". But finding plenty of folks playing score chasing games like Powerstar Golf and Trials, as well as sports games matters. I already owned the "better" console in the Dreamcast. And while Microsoft is not likely to bail, it could suffer the lack of support that doomed the Dreamcast, which would suck.XXXIV wrote:Here is a crazy question.

Really not seeing that. Being crushed by Sony but so freaking what?....Still selling em and at a greater pace than they sold 360s. Plus there are plenty of 360 owners who see NO reason to get a one yet.

The question holds...Whats with the cheer leading? ..Why is it so important to you?
Apologies again...

--Any time you're an early adopter, you'd like to see what you adopted sell well. Just makes you feel that the tech you're supporting will continue to exist. That's not a huge issue with MS and Sony necessarily in this case, but it only took one dog of a console to drive Sega out of the console business.
--If both succeed, it's probably good for the hobby overall. So even though the PS is outselling, a 12 million unit mix of sold/shipped consoles is good.
There's also a lot of curiosity here, because while the 360 and PS3 were pretty similar in terms of what they could do and were trying to do, MS is taking a leap at making the One more than "just" a console, while the PS4 is a souped up PS3. It's interesting to see what is doing well.

Just to breathe something else into the room...... is anyone with the One using the TV Mount for the Kinect?
Right now in my sort of small "man cave" area in teh basement I have the KInect sitting on the centre speaker on my TV stand. It's over 2 feet off the ground, but I think because we sit so close, it has a hard time picking up my full body when I tried Fitness one day (don't laugh).
I was wondering if mounting on top of my TV, which would put it at a shade over 6 feet high, would let it see more of a person and work better......

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
As mentioned it's not really about winning and losing it's about buying games on a system that everyone else is using. Trials for example. Got four guys on my Xbox Live list when the first one had around ten. That's what a preferred system will do. That's why I got it on xb1...I was hoping for the same. But alas...the friends list is divided so there really is no one who wins in this case.XXXIV wrote:Here is a crazy question.

Unfortunately, many of us are not in a position to own both next gen consoles right now or even the near future.

I got this one a couple weeks ago and I believe it helps as well. I would also think getting the kinect away from the center speaker may help with your voice recognition some too.

Yeah, Trials is where I knew I would feel the split groups the most. I do miss seeing some of the old familiar names on the leaderboards, but thankfully I'm part of other online communities that have a larger PS4 contingent.dbdynsty25 wrote:Trials for example. I'd miss NHL league games too, but that had already stopped here anyway. I'll probably saunter over to OS to see if anything gets going for PS4 leagues there when the new versions come out.
Too bad the Trials leaderboards aren't combined. That would have been awesome!
