I'm not even a hockey fan, but that game gave me goosebumps, and it wasn't even for a medal. Looking forward to a possible rematch.
I have added biathlon and the trail skiing to my list of favorite Olympic sports to watch. Curling has been an enjoyable diversion as well. This Olympics has been quite entertaining.

Since you've been watching cross country, you know Norway has had a tough go of it in what is essentially their national sport. In fact, so much so one of the skiers' mother was ripping on him:bulls23 wrote:I have added biathlon and the trail skiing to my list of favorite Olympic sports to watch. Some tough love came from the mother of Norwegian cross-country skier Martin Johnsrud Sundby. The skier had a poor showing in the 15-kilometer race on Friday, ending up 13th, nearly two minutes after the event's gold medalist, Dario Cologna of Switzerland. His mother didn’t even attempt to hide her disappointment.
"You're the worst Norwegian,” Gro Johnsrud Langslet said of her son on DBTV. “You should go home."

Why the hell is the US game not on live tv? From what I see, it is not being shown until 5ET? I don't want to watch a stream online, I want to watch on my tv. Am I missing something?

The Russians must be devastated, they expected Gold, yet they are out now with a big upset.

Milburry and Roenick were ripping Ovechkin on the post game show. I am waiting for the Russian fans to start with the second guessing of Bob not starting.
Re: OT: 2014 Winter Olympics
Yes, United States and Czech Republic is on USA Network and Latvia/Canada is on MSNBC, both games shown live at noon eastern time.Naples39 wrote:Live on USA Network, I believe.fletcher21 wrote:Why the hell is the US game not on live tv? Russian Olympic Hockey Coach: 'Eat Me Alive Right Now'
Zinetula Bilyaletdinov, the 58-year-old head coach of the Russian hockey team, faced a crowd of stunned Russian journalists after Finland eliminated his squad from the men's hockey tournament here with a 3-1 win in the quarterfinals.
A news conference with Bilyaletdinov, followed by a brief impromptu session surrounded by roughly 20 reporters, offered evidence of how much the loss shocked Russia. Excerpts of the exchanges between the coach and Russian journalists are below:
At a news conference at Sochi's Bolshoy Ice Dome shortly after Russia's loss to Finland:
Q: Is this a catastrophe?
A: This has certainly been an unsuccessful appearance.
Q: [Inaudible]
A: Let's not play with words. I told you, we were unsuccessful. Call it what you will.
Q: Mr. Bilyaletdinov, in what way, exactly, do you see yourself at fault for what happened? What would you have done differently if you could turn back the clock? Maybe you should have played [Alexander] Ovechkin and [Evgeni] Malkin on separate lines?…Did you want to try this, and if so, why didn't you?
A: I don't want to talk about this now. I'm at fault for everything. I didn't fulfill the task before me.
Q: What do you have to say to the fans? 12,000 came to this match and many more watched on television.
A: I apologize to the fans for this result. We were unsuccessful, and the expectations were totally different.
In a scrum with Russian reporters after the news conference:
Q: You said that the analysis will come later. But what mistakes can you talk about now?
A: There were individual mistakes. That's why we couldn't affect the result even though we had twice as many chances as the opponents. We just couldn't score.
Q: What future, if any, do you see for your own work and for your coaching staff? Because, you know, your predecessor was eaten alive after the Olympics—
A: Well then, eat me alive right now—
Q: No, I mean—
A: Eat me, and I won't be here anymore.
Q: But we have the world championship coming up!
A: Well then, there will be a different coach because I won't exist any more, since you will have eaten me.
Q: But you're staying, aren't you?
A: Yes, I will remain living.

Re: OT: 2014 Winter Olympics
I am at an airport lounge waiting for my flight as everyone is waiting anxiously for Team Canada to show up. This pesky Latvian team makes me nervous. They upset the Swiss yesterday and they are giving the Maple Leaf team a handful.
Re: OT: 2014 Winter Olympics
Anything can happen in 1-1 game, but Canada is outshooting them 35-11. The dam could break any moment.10spro wrote:I am at an airport lounge waiting for my flight as everyone is waiting anxiously for Team Canada to show up. This pesky Latvian team makes me nervous. Wish the damn US-Can game was on at a reasonable time. Noon on Friday!? I'll get to watch the first period on my lunch at work but I'll miss periods 2 & 3. Son of a...

B!tch. I get home on Friday just a couple of hours before Ice Dragon night and I would have completely missed the game. That's the Golden game baby.

USA and CAN women knocking the snot out of each other early in the Gold Medal game.

Ouch....didn't think it would hurt so much....but blowing that lead late was brutal. Congrats to Team Canada.webdanzer wrote:No matter who wins, this game has been great to watch!webdanzer wrote:USA and CAN women knocking the snot out of each other early in the Gold Medal game.

Well-earned, too. I only flipped on the last 10min of regulation and the OT, but the Canadians were just all over the US.Macca00 wrote:Great comeback by the Canadian women!
That's only a warm-up for the real thing today, of course. And there's more at stake than just a chance at gold:

That's terrifying. I can only hope the players know what's at stake.RobVarak wrote:And there's more at stake than just a chance at gold:
Re: OT: 2014 Winter Olympics
Composed, dominant performance by the Canadians. Neutralized the US speed and defended beautifully. Americans needed to make the extra pass, hold and get Price to commit, or get more net presence and they failed on all three fronts. Too many perimeter shots.
Entertaining game, but never really caught fire as a contest, I felt.

Re: OT: 2014 Winter Olympics
I'm pretty sure Canada played the whole 3rd period with 6 skaters on the ice.
I will also say that Olympic hockey on the bigger ice and lack of chances feels fairly sterile compared to the more cramped, physical NHL game.

Re: OT: 2014 Winter Olympics
Canada's defense was stellar. That 3rd period just flew by with the US getting very few chances and they never had any sustained pressure.
US was lucky it was only 1-0...they were completely outplayed the entire game. Was still entertaining to watch and I suspect Canada will go
on to win the gold easily.
